What You Need To Know About 18Shake

18Shake is a meal replacement shake that comes in two flavours, vanilla and chocolate. It is incredibly low in calories, at just 90 calories per shake when mixed with water, but there are lots of complaints about the taste; customers who love it often mix it with fruit and a milk substitute such as almond milk. The product is incredibly expensive, and the manufacturer has a terrible reputation for customer service. Their BBB rating is F, the lowest score possible.

What Are The Side Effects Of 18Shake?

Whey protein can cause some side effects, including:

  • Increased bowel movements
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Thirst
  • Stomach cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Bloating

How Much Does 18Shake Cost?

18Shake can be purchased from the official 18Shake website; full pricing details are typically not provided until after you provide your personal details. Initially, on the first page of the 18Shake website, customers are informed that the product is on sale, and that “today’s” price is $47.99 per Bag.

However, on the actual ordering page, customers are given three purchasing options: a single bag will cost $79.99. There is also a buy two, get one free offer, meaning that three bags will cost $159.96 with free shipping. Finally, there is a buy three, get two free offer, meaning that five bags will cost a total of $239.95 with free shipping. This offer is the option that is referred to in the “just $47.99 per bag*” statement.

The company also “encourages” the customer to purchase shipping insurance costing $7.99, and the checkbox for this add on is already checked when visiting the order page.

18Shake can also be purchased from Amazon. Here a pack of three bags of the shake costs $169.99 plus delivery charges.

Each bag contains just 16 servings, and so will last for as little as 8 days of use. This makes the product incredibly expensive to use, especially in the long term! When purchased in bulk (for the greatest discount per bag), customers receive five bags, enough for 40 days of use; at this cheapest price, it will still cost customers $5.99 per day!

Our Verdict On 18Shake

In general we are not very keen on meal replacement shakes; they can be difficult diets to follow, and whilst you can lose a lot of weight quickly consuming them, this weight can be regained very quickly after you stop using the product. This especially applies if you do not follow a calorie controlled diet afterwards, and just revert to old, unhealthy eating habits.

Unfortunately, the business behind 18Shake, 18Nutrition, has an even poorer reputation with us than meal replacement shakes do. The company have an F rating on the Better Business Bureau website, and complaints about them include being overcharged for products, being lied to by customer service representatives, being refused a refund, having a 20% restocking fee deducted from a refund (despite it being due to their own error), and hanging up on customers mid-conversation. That’s if you can get hold of them at all, as the company is notorious for rarely answering the phone.

The company claim to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. There are so many restrictions and loopholes, however, that it really makes a mockery of the word ‘guarantee’. Even if customers can get a refund, they will not get all of their money back, due to the hefty 20% restocking fee.

The product is incredibly expensive as well, even when purchased in bulk. Prices per day vary between $5.99 and $9.99, far higher than similar products offered by competitors.

Customers have also complained about the taste and consistency of the shake. Customers also report that it can be difficult to mix with water, leaving lumps unless mixed in a blender.

Overall, we have struggled to find any redeeming features for this product at all! We do not recommend 18Shake to our readers.

18Shake Facts

  • Manufactured by 18Nutrition
  • 16 servings per bag
  • High in fibre

The manufacturers of 18Shake claim that their product contains a “superior dual-protein formula”, suggesting that this makes their product unique. The dual-protein formula is a combination of whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate; these two types of protein are both incredibly common in protein and meal replacement shakes, both on their own and together.

How to Take 18Shake

Directions for use are as follows: Simply replace one or two of your daily meals with 18Shake.

18Shake is manufactured by 18Nutrition. We have previously reviewed another of their products, Sletrokor.

The company lists some contact details on the official website, including a contact phone number (800.614.1820). However, customers have complained that the phone line is almost never answered, and calls are never returned. Some customers have been able to receive refunds via their banks when failing to contact the company, although this is not guaranteed.

18Shake Concerns:

  • Incredibly restricted returns – no money-back guarantee despite claims
  • 20% restocking fee
  • Terrible reputation for customer service
  • Expensive product

18Nutrition have a terrible reputation for customer service; we have found customer complaints mentioning being lied to about delivery dates and told that the product had already been shipped when it had not. Customers were also given only partial refunds, have been hung up on, or have struggled to reach the company at all.

One unhappy customer writes:

I ordered what I thought was 1 bag of Shake plus a supplement. When I checked my account they had charged almost $300 for 6 bags and the supplement. I called (the day I found the error) Which was 2 days after ordering and spoke to Michael. I asked to cancel the order. He said it had shipped already. I could return it after receiving. They sent me an RMA link. 2 weeks later I receive a Ship confirmation notice! It had NOT SHIPPED WHEN i HAD CALLED 2 WEEKS PRIOR. I had a trip planned and was not going to be able to return within the 30 day window. They would not extend the return date for me. I called again and got Amos on the phone. He “slipped” and told me that the Chocolate had been out of stock when I ordered. The phone call was dropped as soon as he finished this statement.

This is a scam company. They are going to charge me a 20% restock fee even If I can find someone to send the package back while I’m gone.

They told me to call Fed Ex and cancel shipment. However Fed Ex cannot do this because this company ships Fed Ex to the U S Post Office and then the Post Office Delivers it. What a Mess. I’M sure this is another intention scam routine.

What Does 18Shake Claim To Do?

The manufacturers provide the following description of the product’s benefits:

18Shake is an all-natural luxury meal replacement shake made in the USA. There’s no added artificial sweeteners, soy, gluten, or unhealthy ingredients that many other meal replacements have. Contained inside is a superior dual-protein formula and potent fibre that not only suppresses appetite, but it can help you lose weight naturally.

Does 18Shake Work?

Each serving of the 18Shake contains around 90 calories, and so when this shake replaces two of the consumer’s three meals per day, they are likely to lose a significant amount of weight, fast. This will obviously depend upon the total number of calories they are consuming per day; if someone is drinking a lot of high calorie drinks, snacks throughout the day, and has a large, unhealthy meal for their third meal of the day, then obviously they are not going to lose weight very quickly, if at all.

The main problem people have with meal replacement shakes such as this is hunger, as they are following a very low calorie diet. Will power plays a huge role in meal replacement diets, and as these diets can be difficult to follow, many people often cheat on their diet, or find it gets derailed easily. We found numerous customer reviews that stated that the chocolate flavour was watery, and that the shakes do not mix well.

Customers need to make longer term dietary changes as well, to avoid putting weight back on after they have finished using 18. Having said that, this low-calorie meal replacement shake should help consumers to lose a significant amount of weight, if they use it correctly.

What Are The Ingredients of 18Shake?

The ingredients found in 18Shake are detailed below. Each serving contains 90 calories, 5 grams of dietary fibre and 15 grams of protein. Each serving also contains vitamins and minerals.

  • Whey Protein Concentrate 15.7 grams: This is the cheapest and most common form of whey protein and is a by-product of milk production. Whey seems to help recovery after sports and endurance training so is often used by athletes. Whey protein contains BCCA amino acids and may causes feelings of satiety. It appears to decrease the release hormones such as ghrelin, which signal hunger. Whey protein is high in fat and cholesterol. Source
  • Whey Protein Isolate 3.39 grams: Whey Protein Isolate is extracted from milk products, and is form of protein which are highly bioavailable, meaning that they are easily and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. The protein contains a high number of branched chain amino acids which used to fuel working muscles and stimulate muscle growth. Source
  • Fibersol-2 TM 5.41 grams: Fibersol®-2 is made of digestion resistant maltodextrin and is a dietary fibre. It can help to promote a feeling of fullness. Source

Does 18Shake Have Any Side Effects?

Whey protein can cause some side effects, including:

  • Increased bowel movements
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Thirst
  • Stomach cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Bloating

Fibersol is a fibre supplement, and so it could increase bowel movements. It could also cause diarrhoea, bloating, constipation (especially if you are dehydrated), and stomach cramps.

Caution:
Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. Meal replacement shakes are intended to aid weight loss and so should not be consumed by anyone who has a BMI under 18.5, i.e. is classed as underweight. Consult your doctor before going on any new weight loss program. Not suitable for anyone who is vegan or lactose intolerant, as this shake contains milk.

Are There Any Customer Reviews For 18Shake?

There are numerous customer reviews for 18Shake on Amazon, where the product is sold.

I’m only on 3 days of this so this review is based on taste and ease of use. The taste is awful. I got the chocolate and i don’t feel it tastes anything like chocolate. It may not be chalky but its intensely sweet and has an aftertaste that isn’t pleasant and is hard to get rid of. I’ve added almond milk, peanut butter, banana and expresso powder in different combinations to improve the taste, but nothing helps much. I basically chug it as fast as i can to get it over with. Ill stick with it as its too expensive to quit and it does seem to help curb hunger to some extent. You really do need to use a blender to mix it. Just shaking, no matter how vigorous, results in chunks. I will have to follow up on effectiveness later.

It’s delicious. I have lost 17lbs in 2 weeks having 2 shakes a day, lots of water, and 1 not sensible meal (so I don’t feel like I’m missing anything) on my second 3 pack first was chocolate this one vanilla, and they both are great.

Took one star off for the ridiculous price. I can’t afford to keep ordering this and I am going to look for a more affordable shake when this runs out.

Hardly any chocolate taste. Watery when mixed. Wouldn’t recommend. Would like to get my money back.

Over hyped product. Doesn’t curb my appetite. Mediocre taste. Extremely expensive. I won’t be purchasing this product again.

I found that 18shake is just as good as any other shake I have used. It is a meal replacement; that is the key. If you eat 1 or 2 good healthy meals a day and use a replacement shake you will lose weight. I am not a Doctor or the son of a Doctor but I believe it’s all about eating right. All about your taste. My wife and I have found that 18shake works for us, we use 1 1/2 to 2 measuring size for the best taste. Plus we use fruit and ice plus water or juice it works.

Does 18Shake Offer a Money-Back Guarantee?

The manufacturers of 18Shake, 18Nutrition, claim that they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all of their products. However, they do not accept opened or used products, and they state that a “Restocking fee may apply”. Customer reviews show that this restocking fee is a hefty 20% of the order value.

The company have a very poor understanding of what a money-back guarantee is, as there are numerous loopholes that mean that customers are unlikely to get their money back, or only part of their money. We have also seen customer reviews that indicate that the returns policy starts from the order date, not the delivery date. Considering that the website states that orders “take 7-10 business days” to be delivered, this drastically affects the returns period.

They state:

We have 30 days return policy for our products. Please note that we accept unopened bottles only.

2. In order to process Your refund, You must supply 18Nutrition with your name, order ID and delivery address. If You provide us with insufficient or incorrect information, refund will be delayed.

3. In order to qualify for a refund, you must provide us all the information we ask for, and comply with all other terms specified on this website for such purpose.

4. To claim your refund under this guarantee, please contact the support team from the Contact Us page. Restocking fee may apply.
