Aava Labs Probiotic

Aava Labs Probiotic is a probiotic supplement from Finland. It contains 15 different strains of “good” bacteria (which is pretty good compared to other probiotic products) along with zinc. Not much is really known about the company itself, and there is a lack of information regarding the ingredient quantities and the so-called “patented delivery system” that it uses. On the plus side, it is reasonably priced and should be somewhat side-effect free.

Pros

  • Generally positive reviews on Amazon
  • Reasonably priced

Cons

  • No live website for the company
  • States ‘patented delivery system’ – but no information about it
  • Doesn’t state how much of each individual strain the product contains
The world seems to have gone slightly mad for probiotics, which are designed to improve your digestive health by increasing the amount of ‘good’, or healthy bacteria in your gut. Aava Labs is one of many probiotic supplements on the market claiming to do this.

In this review, we are going to take a closer look at the Aava Labs Probiotic supplement to see if it is going to have any effect on your digestive and overall health, or whether you’re better off increasing the good bacteria in your body through diet alone.

Aava Labs Probiotic Overview

What you need to know about Aava Labs Probiotic

Aava labs Probiotics are a Finnish produced probiotic supplement that claims to improve overall health by helping to increase the amount of healthy gut bacteria. It is in capsule form, with a ‘patented delivery system’ – although what this system entails is unclear, and it is designed to be taken once or twice a day, depending on your requirements. It also contains zinc, to help improve cognitive function, maintenance of bones, and immune function.

What are the side effects of Aava Labs Probiotic?

Probiotics, as a whole, do not cause much in the way of serious side effects in healthy individuals. In the first few days of taking them, some users might experience diarrhea, wind, bloating, and stomach upsets whilst their body adjusts to them, but this will ease off. However, for people with compromised immune systems, there can be some serious side effects. In those with injured or punctured bowels, using these products can cause infections and sepsis, as the bacteria can leak into the bowel. It is vital that anyone who isn’t sure checks with their doctor or health care professional before using. Source

How much does Aava Labs Probiotic cost?

Aava Labs Prebiotics are available from Amazon for £15.99, for sixty capsules. This should last one to two months, depending on the dosage you decide to take.

Aava Labs Probiotic Key Features

Aava Labs Prebiotics is a once or twice a day capsule probiotic supplement containing zinc. It is supposed to help increase the levels of good bacteria in the gut, whilst the zinc will help you to lead a ‘vibrant and adventurous’ lifestyle by improving cognitive function, maintenance of bones, and immune function. It is manufactured by Aava Labs, a family run business based in Helsinki in Finland.

Aava Labs Probiotic Key Points

  • 30-60 servings per bottle
  • Contains 15 strains of bacteria
  • Not able to be purchased directly from the website
  • Has a CFU of 30 billion

We know very little about Aava Labs, the company behind the supplement. The website is still under construction, being launched (at the time of writing) in 144 days. All we know is that they are a family run business in Helsinki, Finland, who want to ‘live and breathe wellness, and share this with the globe’ with their Nordic inspired products.

How to Take Aava Labs Probiotic

As a dietary supplement, take one to two capsules a day, preferably with water or food, or as directed by your healthcare professional. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Aava Labs Probiotic Concerns:

  • No working website
  • We know very little about the company

What does Aava Labs Probiotic claim to do?

In the Amazon description, Aava Labs claim that their product infuses ‘Nordic values of purity & freshness into the world and support your adventure’. The inclusion of zinc, they say, is to help you to improve cognitive function, maintenance of bones, and immune function.

It is worth noting here that in the US, probiotic supplements are not recognised or regulated by the FDA (Food and Drugs Authority), but manufacturers are not allowed to state any health or disease-related claims when it comes to prebiotics.

Does Aava Labs Probiotic work?

As we said before, we are undecided when it comes to probiotics. There is very little evidence to support the use of them, and we tend to err on the side of science. However, reviews on Amazon generally seem positive, and we do know that increasing the level of good bacteria in your gut is always going to be a good thing. However, due to exact quantities not being listed, we have no idea whether enough of each strain of bacteria is included to say whether it will work or not. We think that consuming gut-friendly foods such as kefir, sauerkraut, and yoghurt will probably have just as good an effect as this supplement.

Aava Labs Probiotic Ingredients

These quantities are per each capsule:

Bacteria Blend (200 mg):

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus: This is often used to treat things like IBS, Crohn’s disease, help with lactose intolerance, and vaginal yeast infections after antibiotics. However, there is no scientific evidence to prove that it works.
  • Bifidobacterium longum: Research shows that taking bifidobacteria can increase bowel movements by about 2-4 stools per week in people with constipation and can increase the remission rate in people with Ulcerative colitis. It is the most abundant species of bacteria in the digestive tract and also one of the most popular probiotics.
  • Bifidobacterium bifidum: Several high-quality studies show that this strain may be able to help irritable bowel syndrome, infections by helicobacter pylori and lung infections, as well as restore gut bacteria after chemotherapy.
  • Bifidobacterium lactis: This is a lactic acid bacteria and can help to fight lactose intolerance and boost the immune system. It may also support healthy cholesterol levels, ease ulcerative colitis, and even combat the effects of celiac disease.
  • Streptococcus: This is one of the leading bacteria consumed by humans. It’s a lactic acid, widely used in the production of yoghurt and cheese. It is often touted as an option for those who are intolerant of lactose, due to the fact that it can break the sugar into lactic acid and facilitate smoother digestion.
  • Lactobacillus plantarum: This bacteria produces its own antibiotics that intelligently target the bad bacteria. It survives stomach acid with ease, and can move from to mouth, to intestines, to colon, to feces. It is found in many foods such as sourdough bread, kimchi and sauerkraut.
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus: Like L-Acidophilus, this is often used to treat things like IBS, Crohn’s disease, help with lactose intolerance, and vaginal yeast infections after antibiotics. However, there is no scientific evidence to prove that it works.
  • Bifidobacterium breve: This can help with things such as irritable bowel syndrome, wind, bloating, and allergies. Breastfed babies have plenty of this in their guts, but stores of it deplete as they get older.
  • Lactococcus lactis: This is a really commonly found prebiotic and is used in many foods, such as pickled vegetables, buttermilk and cheese due to its ability to create lactic acid.
  • Lactobacillus salivarius: Compared to other probiotics, this one grows very fast. Because of this, it balances out the bad bacteria quickly. It even aids in the digestion of proteins.
  • Lactobacillus casei: Probiotic supplements containing this strain are used to prevent or treat diarrhea. This includes infectious diarrhea, traveler’s diarrhea, and antibiotic-associated diarrhea, as well as other digestive issues such as IBS.
  • Lactobacillus paracasei: This strain can boost the immune system, balances the GI microbiota, alleviate allergic symptoms and decrease skin sensitivity.
  • Lactobacillus bulgaricus: Lactobacillus bulgaricus is hardy enough to be able to withstand the acidic digestive juices released by the stomach. The organism grows when it’s needed and depletes when it’s not
  • Lactobacillus reuteri: This is one of the more researched probiotics. As well as helping gut health, it may have some positive effects on hair condition and growth, strengthen sex drive and fight vaginal yeast infections.
  • Lactobacillus gasseri: It is thought that this particular strain may help with weight loss and menstrual pain, as well as helping with good gut health.
  • Zinc: It is thought that the effect on gut health by probiotics can be boosted by taking them with zinc. Source

Aava Labs Probiotic Side Effects

As a whole, these should not cause much in the way of serious side effects in healthy individuals. In the first few days of taking them, some users might experience diarrhea, wind, bloating, and stomach upsets whilst the body adjusts to them, but this will ease off. However, if you have any medical conditions, it is vital you check with a healthcare professional before using as it may have some serious side effects for some conditions.

Caution:

Aava Labs Probiotic Customer Feedback

Generally, the customer reviews on Amazon for this product are positive. with comments such as:

I have tried a dozen different probiotic supplements, yogurts, actimels, and so on, but, none really helped with my overall digestion / digestive tract like these. I’m actually quite amazed that within a few days I experienced less bloating, reduced stomach pains, and better intestinal workings shall we say. Highly recommended. I have been using now for about 20 days. Really pleased and will be buying again.

However, some users have noticed no difference in their health after taking them:

One month into taking them. No difference in anything

Aava Labs Probiotic Money-Back Guarantee

If you purchase from Amazon, you are automatically covered by their money-back and returns policy, but it also states in the description that Aava Labs products are covered by a ‘365 day, empty bottle, money back guarantee’. It is unclear exactly what this means or how you go about arranging this if you are unhappy with your products.

Where To Buy Aava Labs Probiotic

You cannot purchase this from the website directly. It is available from Amazon. The RRP appears to be £15.99 for a bottle containing 60 capsules.

Watchdog Verdict

The jury is definitely out when it comes to probiotics in general. Whilst they seem to be the big thing in the supplement world at the moment, there is almost no scientific evidence to suggest that they have any benefit. There are so many different strains of bacteria in the gut – between 500 and 1000 – that it is very difficult to pinpoint which ones will help. The Aava Labs one has 15 different strains, which is quite good compared to a lot of probiotics, but there are still many, many more that are not included. It is also very unclear on how much of each strain is included, and studies show that generally, prebiotic supplements do not include enough of each strain to cause any positive effects.

There is also next to no information about the company behind it. The website appears to be under construction, with a ‘coming soon’ message. At the time of writing, there appeared to be 144 days until it was launched. All we know is that it is (apparently) a family run business based in Helsinki, Finland. We can’t find any reviews of either the product or the company itself anywhere other than on Amazon.

With this in mind, we do not recommend Aava Labs Probiotic to our readers.
