However, can this diet pill really say “adios” to your excess weight? We investigate Adios and Adios Max for you!

  • Effectiveness
  • Safety
  • Price / Guarantee

Pros

  • One of the cheapest diet pills on the market

Cons

  • Lack of clinical evidence
  • May cause water weight and not fat loss
  • Consumer complaints of side effects
Adios and its higher strength cousin Adios Max are popular natural diet pills that have been available in the UK for some time. The advertisement proved a hit, with attractive girls wearing tight pink shiny hot pants dancing down the street! It also included the slogan “Must be the Adios effect”!

Adios Overview

What you need to know about Adios

Adios contains a natural herbal ingredient called Fucus Dry Extract that aims to boost your metabolism so that you increase fat burning without negative side effects.

Weight loss results are dependent upon eating a calorie-controlled diet plan with regular activity.

As some of the ingredients are strong diuretics you are likely to visit the toilet more often.

What are the side effects of Adios?

The manufacturer suggests side effects are possible if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients.

How much does Adios cost?

Both are available from high street stores in the UK, such as Boots, for between £6 and £10.

Adios Key Features

It is marketed as a natural slimming aid that is available in two versions, the original yellow box, and Max in a bright pink box. The only other difference between them is Adios Max contains 120mg of the main ingredient, Fucus Dry Extract, instead of 45mg in the original.

Both diet pills are manufactured in the UK by Diomed Herbals Ltd, who produces a few licensed herbal medicines that help weight loss, reduce stress, and combats tiredness.

It has been on the market since 2001 and should be used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet and regular exercise.

Adios Key Points

  • Popular UK diet pill on the market since 2001
  • Adios Max is a higher strength version
  • Available in high street shops and online

A few years ago Adios frequently appeared on UK television adverts between popular TV shows. The advert featured three women happily jumping down the street in pink hot pants to the theme tune of “Burn, baby burn”!

We decided to pick up a few samples from Boots, a popular pharmacy in the UK that stocks a large range of health, beauty, and essential everyday items.

How to Take Adios

Take one tablet three times a day, usually at mealtimes, as part of a calorie controlled diet and extra exercise.

We found both versions to be available online from a number of retailers at different prices, with and without money-back guarantees.

The branding and packaging are very much aimed at women looking to lose a few pounds.

Adios Concerns

  • Lack of clinical evidence
  • May cause water weight and not fat loss
  • Consumer complaints of side effects

As we have mentioned, there are two versions of Adios distinguished by the colour of the box packaging.

The only difference between the Original and Max diet pills, apart from the different colour packing, is the amount of Fucus Dry Extract included.

The Original contains 45mg of Fucus Dry Extract whereas Adios Max contains 120mg (equivalent to 600mg fucus) and so suggested to be more effective.

What does Adios claim to do?

The official website claims that Adios is:

the UK’s No1 herbal slimming tablet, is an effective natural way to help you lose weight and feel great quickly and easily. It’s already helped women everywhere say ‘Adios!’ to weight they don’t want.

Does Adios work?

The amount of weight you can lose is not specified when taking Adios or Adios Max. The manufacturer does claims that the ingredients used have been traditionally used to help people lose excess weight, as part of a calorie-controlled diet with exercise.

In fact, any weight loss that occurs when taking Adios is likely to be from the calorie-controlled diet and exercise!

There are no clinical studies to back up any claims made by Adios or Adios Max and relies on evidence on the effects of Iodine levels maintaining healthy thyroid activity.

Low levels of thyroid activity have been suggested to contribute to a low metabolism but unless you suffer from iodine deficiency, we doubt it will boost your metabolism.

Other ingredients work to increase water loss, which may give the appearance of weight loss as it will help to dehydrate you. Diuretic-based diet pills do not help long-term weight loss, with weight soon returning when you stop taking the pills.

Adios Ingredients

Only natural herbal ingredients are used in both the Original and Max diet pills, these are:

  • Fucus Dry Extract (45mg / 120mg): Seaweed extract that contains high amounts of Iodine. Low levels of Iodine are thought to cause low levels of an important thyroid hormone called Throxin, responsible for maintaining a healthy metabolism. Fucus is also known as Bladderwrack.
  • Boldo Dry Extract: Strong laxative that works similar to Dandelion root and increases fluid loss.
  • Butternut – Also Known as Juglans cinerea or the white walnut, which accelerates defecation and also thought to treat dysentery and other stomach and intestinal discomfort.
  • Dandelion Root: Strong diuretic that increases water loss by increasing trips to the toilet.

Adios Side Effects

The manufacturer suggests side effects are possible if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients within either product.

Caution: Not to be taken by children, adolescents under 18 or the elderly.

Do not use if:

  • You are taking anticoagulants e.g. warfarin
  • You have a thyroid disorder
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients e.g. warfarin, or taking any other medicines or dietary supplements containing iodine
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • The product is past the expiry date shown on the carton and the container

Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children. This is a medicine; consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist. Seek advice before using if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suffer from allergies. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.

Adios Customer Feedback

It has received mixed feedback from consumers with Amazon shoppers giving it a majority of “1 star” in their reviews.

Several consumers have reported hair loss and stomach aches whilst taking Adios Max. The size of the pill has also been mentioned to be large and not easy to swallow.

I bought these hoping to lose weight however did not find them effective at all! I ended up with a loss of and thinning hair, stomach ache and nausea after taking them but no weight loss at all.

aylichka, April 2012

I bought some of these in a bid to lose my last stone. After an hour or two of taking the tablets, I was getting stomach ache. After a week this was accompanied by appalling wind. They are really large ‘horse’ tablets, so not easy to swallow.

jojo, September 2009

Adios Money-Back Guarantee

This all depends on the place of purchase, but it is not likely that many of the stores and sites will offer a money-back guarantee.

Where To Buy Adios

Both are available from high street stores in the UK, such as Boots, for between £6 and £10.

You can also buy them online from Evolution Slimming, Boots Online store, and Amazon. Purchasing from Evolution Slimming costs slightly more but you get a 30-day money-back guarantee and free UK delivery is possible.

Watchdog Verdict

The range of diet pills is very user-friendly with good branding, and it easy to see why it was popular some 10 years ago with women looking to lose a few pounds.

But looking at whether the ingredients will actually help you lose weight reveals another story. The recent negative consumer reports complaining about side effects are also a concern!

It is very cheap, possibly being the lowest priced diet pills on the market. Even still we would suggest saving your money for better diet pills that work. The fact is the lack of clinical studies to back up its claims and that any weight loss is probably due to water loss and dehydration, we do not recommend Adios diet pills! Instead, we would recommend diet pills that have been proven to boost your metabolism.

Adios Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the Differences between Adios and Adios Max?

Apart from the different coloured boxes and slightly higher cost of Adios Max, the only other difference is in the ingredient amount of Fucus (in dry extract form).

There is 45mg of Fucus in the Adios Original version compared to a much higher dose of 120mg in the Adios Max strength tablets.

How do I take Adios and Adios Max Strength?

You are recommended to take one tablet at meal times each day, ensuring you take a maximum of 4 tablets per day. Whilst taking Adios tablets you are advised to follow a calorie-controlled diet.

Is Adios Suitable for vegans?

No, Adios is not suitable for vegans.

Is Adios suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, Adios is suitable for vegetarians.

So are Adios Original and Adios Max strength clinically proven?

Unfortunately not. There is evidence to suggest that those individuals suffering from iodine deficiency can have a reduced metabolism due to low thyroid activity. As Fucus is rich in iodine the manufacturer claims these supports can help support a healthy thyroid activity.

Are Adios and Adios Max safe?

These supplements are on the whole likely to be safe but if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients then you are advised to avoid taking Adios. You can read about the Adios ingredients in our review.

Avoid If: Hypersensitive to any of the ingredients or to iodine or to plants of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family (Adios Tablets contain Dandelion root).
You are being treated for any serious medical condition such as thyroid disorder, cholangitis, liver disease, gallstones, active peptic ulcer and any other biliary disorders, renal failure, diabetes or heart failure.

What do customers say about Adios and Adios Max?

There aren’t any customer testimonials on the official website so we took a look at the Amazon feedback for both supplements.

We current ratings of 2.9 out of 5 stars from 104 reviews to date, Adios Max Strength hasn’t impressed many of the consumers who have tried it. Over 60% of the consumers rate it 3 stars or less!

The regular Adios supplement has only 15 reviews and an even poorer rating of 2.1 out of 5 stars. The Adios range of supplements hasn’t impressed the public it seems.

What if I am unhappy, any money-back guarantee?

Unfortunately not. As is the case with many brands stocked predominantly on the high street, purchases made in-store only have a return policy that is based on if the supplement is damaged.

If you take the supplement and it doesn’t work or worse, you have side effects, then there is no money-back guarantee.

Can I buy Adios and Adios Max on Amazon or Ebay?

You can buy both strengths of Adios on eBay from a number of sellers with varying prices ranging from £4.99 to over £8.00 for 100 tablets. Be on the lookout for shipping prices though as many of the cheaper prices come with shipping costs from £2.80 or more.

Caution: Ensure you are buying the real mccoy when purchasing any supplements from eBay. If in doubt then check customer feedback and if you believe the product is fake contact eBay.

Amazon stock both versions of Adios too from the manufacturer, with prices ranging from £6 upwards for 100 tablets. If you wish to ensure you are taking the real product you may wish to opt for buying through Amazon.

Where can I buy Adios and Adios Max?

The official Adios website doesn’t provide a direct way to buy their supplement, instead, you are advised to seek “Independent Pharmacies” or “Independent Health Food Stores”.

If you don’t wish to buy on the high street from the likes of Boots, Holland and Barrett, Waitrose, Lloyds Pharmacy or Superdrug then Amazon is probably your best option.

  1. Took adios max for a week, ate less and began to exercise a lot more. After a week I had jumped up 2 dress sizes and gained a stone (all fat no muscle)
    WORST PILLS EVER!
Stopped taking them and carried on the new diet and exercise and have now lost a lot more.
Do not waste your money on these

  2. I bought Adios hoping to loose weight but all I lost was water. I was up five to six times per the night to visit the toilet so was beginning to dehydrate, what with this and the lack of sleep I was making myself ill. Two days after stopping Adios things went back to normal.

  3. I have just started taking adios today.. I will keep you all updated daily… Fingers crossed it will work.. I’m not fat by no means, but just need to lose maybe a stone to feel more energetic?

  4. Hi when you say you go to the loo a lot do yous mean open bowel movement or just urinal! Sorry if that sounds crude I’m just curious! And also are they safe like I am a hypochondriac and am very weary of using tablets incase anything bad happens but I’ve heard they are safe just always best to be cautious (I have bought some now I am in 2 minds).thanks in advice people

  5. I have been using Adios for almost 10years. Lost almost 10kg by using the Green Adios. I took a break during my pregnancy where i gained almost 72kg from 49kg in 2007. Thanks to adios i came back to my pre-pregnancy weight in less than 9 months but this time with the Pink pack. I still take it for maintenance but only once or twice a day. I also maintain a low calorie diet most of the time and exercise like twice or thrice a week due to my busy schedule. Im a very happy user of Adios. It has helped me not once but many times and had no side effects as mentioned by some. I guess the effectiveness varies from person to person. Hydrating yourself and maintaining a low cal diet is beneficial whether or not you take Adios.

  6. A friend of mine goes to slimming world and lost loads of weight, although i can not afford the weekly cost and do not have the time to go and get weighed each week. i started the adios tablets a week and a half ago, started at 14st 5 and today i am 14st! 😉 i am happy with the steady loss, (average of 2lb a week). I do 1/2 hr a day on the wii fit, and general housework to get exercise. I have also started to eat a small breakfast and regular meals. The tablets are small (not large like stated in the article, don’t know what they bought!) i have had no hair loss or adverse side effects such as stomach cramps. I think this weight loss aid works and will continue on them until i reach my weight loss goal 🙂

  7. Iv been taking them for about a week and I haven’t noticed any difference, I am however on an amazing diet you should all try slimming world! Iv lost 10lbs in 5 weeks and I can pretty much eat all day if I really want to as you get certain foods that are free foods so can eat as much as you want and certain things you need to count and you get so many syns a day so if you want to save your syns up and eat that chocolate bar or cake then you can! It’s by far the best diet Iv ever been on as tried ones before where I’d be constantly starving and couldn’t last but this is great. Some brilliant recipe books too ????

  8. I have lost weight due to joining a slimming world class but I am stuck in a rut with only a few lbs to lose to reach my target! I have purchased these today so going to give them a go and see what happens! I’ve nothing to lose…. Except the weight ????????

  9. I originally started taking Adios about 8 years ago. I was very sceptical about them because they were so cheap but thought I’d give them a try anyway. But to my surprise, I lost 2 stone in 1 month! It was fantastic! Then over the last 8 years I’ve put all the weight (and more) back on. Do I started taking Adios last Thursday. I started at 14.6 and today, only 1 week later I’m already down to 13.11! So for me they work like a dream! I always make sure I drink plenty of water, just because of all the reviews of how they make you dehydrated and i also take multi vitamins too. Oh and I haven’t had any side effects from them either.

Hope this review helps other decide whether to give them a try or not.

  10. I started the Adios Max yesterday
.so far my appetite has been reduced and have been to the toilet for more 1’s than usual but a few 2’s too – hope that’s not too much info..will be back with updates Good luck ya’ll

  11. I’ve just purchased Adios Max today and I’m really hoping this will help me lose the excess weight I’ve gained over the last year. I’m doing this alongside a calorie controlled diet so fingers crossed! Natalie has there been a weight loss? Any reviews of 2015!?

  12. Just started these today..really hoping they work!
    I’ve been 12st 6lb for last 5
6 months doesn’t matter what I eat the weight won’t decrease or increase! I’m now on a 1200 calorie diet with no rubbish junk food! I tend to drink around 2 litres of water a day anyway so always on toilet, I don’t do much exercise but mum of 4 so never sat down!
I really want to get back to 10st so praying these help 🙂
Amazing how much calories I actually eat before starting my diet, now I’m looking..I actually eat my full daily allowance in 1 night in front ov tea…never again!
Good luck everyone actually trying 🙂

  13. I took these for 4 months and they really didn’t help. I have thyroid problems so came off them. I was eating 1200 calories a day and going the gym everyday too. After a few months off not taking them i am still losing up to 2lb a week which is safe. So in theory these tablet’s do not work! Losing more than 2lb a week is unhealthy and you will gain it all back. I lost 1 stone from January to march then joined the gym, since the gym I have lost 2stone 2lb and eat what I want. Sometimes fish & chips, TGIs cocktails and hotdog n fries only one of these once per week as my treat..a good healthy diet & exercise is all you need spend your money on joining the gym, its fun!!!!

    1. It does state on the back of the pack NOT to consume if you have thyroid problems. Probably wasnt the best idea.

  14. Hi all. I’ve just started taking these pills.. So far so good. I have lost 1 stone in 2wks and cuttin out all the crap foods an eating a lot healthier. I do say that they do make me go loo a lot lol.

  15. I took the adios max and followed instructions perfectly and the only difference in me was a tummy pain that just wouldn’t shift! I stuck to my regular 5 day a week exercise and 90% clean eating and I was just looking for a bit of a boost in my weight loss….this did not happen what so ever

  16. I think Adios do help with weight loss without side effects for me. Good food and exercise (doesn’t have to be a gym workout 30 min brisk walk) will help.

  17. Also I try not to eat beyond around 6-6.30pm, drink plenty of water, very very rarely drink alcohol. I think they’re great!. Only thing I’m wondering now is I’m about to start taking the contraceptive pill Cerazette and I’m wondering will taking the adios max pills interrupt the pill with them being herbal!?…heard before certain herbal tablets/meds can.

  18. I’m a healthy 31 year old and have being taking Adios max tablets now for around 2-3 weeks and can honestly say with regular exercise (gym and aqua fit/swimming 3-4 times per week) and by eating little and often and cutting out rubbish although occasional treats like chocolate!!..I have lost weight, feel more trim, clothes fit better etc. I’d give them 5 stars!. I agree though that you do seem to need the toilet slightly more often but not so much it becomes annoying. I’ve also had no stomach ache, no loss of hair etc. Would Definatly recommend.x

  19. I’ve just started these pills because my weight has been like a yo yo . Lost 9 pounds before Christmas to fit in my dress since I’ve been eating I’ve put 4 pounds on so I really hope these work xxx

  20. Three years ago I started taking Adios. They certainly worked for me. In 3 months I lost 1 1/2 stone and that was without much exercise. I didn’t have any side effects whatsoever and I found I was eating much less because I just wasn’t feeling hungry. I can’t believe anyone can lose a stone in a week, its not a very healthy way to go about it. I would take Adios again and do more exercise this time.

    1. So they do work but do u ave to stay away from fatty foods altogether? An wot happens wen u stop taking them?

  21. I’ve taken them a few month back & I got down to 12:4 from 13st in two weeks, stopped taking them without any change to my healthy diet or exercise 3 times a week an I slowly creeped back up to 13st.
Currently have some on order, they clearly helped me without any side effects 🙂

  22. These work for me,but not physically as i think that”why take the pill and then indulge in junk food”It reminds me at meal times that i’m watching what i eat.I actually think that i do not have a big appetite when taking Adios.Mentally they work for me!!!!
Not noticed any side effects.Happy customer

  23. Has anyone here who has taken Adios Max experienced horrible, angry, sore spots on their face and body? I never had spots before taking Adios Max, but since taking them I look like I’m going through puberty all over again 🙁

    1. Yes I have come out in about six sore angry spots since taking Adios. I am in my 50’s so certainly not going through puberty !

    1. Which will make u dehydrated ,which will make ur skin dry ,which will give u wrinkles,,, skinny with wrinkles,,, no thanks !!!!

  24. These worked for me too. They took a couple of weeks to show any signs of working One drawback, I do tend to get hot if I eat a high calorie food, maybe it’s the metabolism booster. I also get hot at night so I drink lots of fluids. Great product, does what it says for me.

  25. i have been using adios max on and off for about 4 years, its worked every time, it shifts additional water weight bt if you keep to a balanced diet you should not suffer any adverse effects.

I didn’t notice going to the toilet more than usual, again it would depend on how much water you drink any how.

Any diet pill or supplement should always go hand in hand with a very good diet and exercise program.

  26. I was paying attention till this review said that the pills where like “horse pills”? They’re no bigger than an apple pip!!! They are tiny!
I’ve been stuck at 11st 10 for over a month, I’ve finally shifted to 11st 9 after one day of adios. Might be a coincidence, I am on a diet and exercise a lot too but I was doing that when I was stuck at 11st 10.

    1. I have taken adios before with great success, I have just started a new pack as I need to lose a stone after eating for comfort with a few personal issues. I agree about the size of the pills I had to look at them again so I was pleased when someone else thought they were not hard to take or huge. I find they stop me snacking. I drink a lot of dandelion tea as it is good for liver function so I don’t really notice the fluid loss. I also drink lots of water. I have never had stomach problems or bowel problems with Adios. I have with many other diet pills so I am going back to what works for me. Everyone is different and things that work for some may not work for others.

  27. im 18 and i have been taking these tablets for one week and 3 days , in the first day or two i had to go to the toilet often but other than that they have been amazing! iv lost 7 pound in one week and have still been having takeaways ect and they work really well !

  28. me an my brother in law take them my brother in law has lost a stone in two weeks an ive lost 8pound in a week witch is good u have to ontral ur diet an ur intake an exerciser

  29. Adios worked for me.. I lost a stone in a week!! Over night I was 10.8 and the next morning was 9.8.. the only problem I found is I was taking more then I was meant to and you have to keep taking them to keep the weight off they also brought on depression but hey least I looked good. My partner made me stop taking them but I’m going back on them because they worked and I looked great. I also exercised daily and only ate once a day and that did help. I found it quick and my confidence was amazing definitely going back on them asap!!!

    1. have u been excersising and eating healthy? also is there any side effects? i wuld like to lose about a stone asap but i dont want to be in the loo all the time …? xx

    2. Why in the world would you make yourself unhealthy to look good? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Coming from a depressed person, a depression is something you want to avoid at all costs. Just do a bit more exercise. Also, not eating will cause far more fat gain than you realize. Do some god damn research instead of listening to Television.

    3. Find it unbelievable that someone would think that being depressed and only eating enough to keep a bird alive is more attractive than a few sexy curves that most real men love!!!

    4. What an unhealthy attitude to have, I can’t believe I just read that, your either a troll or have a mental health issue
