Asia Black 25 Facts

  • Contains 100 capsules per bottle.
  • According to product information, all Cloma Pharma supplements are manufactured in Utah by NovaCare LLC.
  • Some batches of Asia Black 25 have been ordered by the FDA to be withdrawn for safety concerns.

Cloma Pharma Asia Black 25 looks strong! If you are searching for a dangerous “old school” fat burner that does not bother hiding the risks to health, you may have found exactly what you are looking for here!

It is advertised as an ephedra diet supplement and seeing that ephedra was banned as a diet pill ingredient in 2004 by the FDA because it is linked to causing heart attacks and strokes, Asia Black 25 looks to be flouting the law.

However, things are not always as they seem because Ephedra is a plant species that has many different varieties.

Ephedra Sinica, also known as Ma Huang in Traditional Chinese Medicine contains a stimulant called ephedrine and is banned. However, the 25mg of Ephedra contained in this supplement is Ephedra Nevadensis and is not the same. Known as Mormon Tea, Ephedra Nevadensis grows in Nevada and used to be drunk as a tea beverage by the Mormons. Misleading to customers to say the least!

Just because Asia Black 25 is ephedrine free, does not mean that this supplement is safe. It contains a wide range of stimulant ingredients including Yohimbe extract and Synephrine both known for causing seizures and increasing blood pressure and heart rate.

Asia Black 25 also contains high levels of caffeine, via Paullina Cupana more commonly known as Guarana, and Kola Nut as well as pure caffeine anhydrous and Yerba Mate.

Other ingredients include white willow extract – known for gastro intestinal side effects due to the high levels of Salicylic acid it contains, plus Panax Ginseng and Evodiamine.

All these ingredients read like a dangerous list of diet pill ingredients and although there is nothing illegal contained in this supplement, this does not mean it is safe.

If you do have any concerns about health, the product advertising provides a prominent and comprehensive list of side effects associated with this supplement, which does not pull any punches. We shall look into this later on in the review.

Asia Black 25 also contains some less dangerous looking ingredients including vitamins and amino acids plus some generally safe components including ginger root and cayenne pepper.

Asia Black 25 comes from Cloma Pharma Laboratories. According to product information, all Cloma Pharma supplements are manufactured in Utah by NovaCare LLC.

Recently some batches of Cloma Pharma supplements have been withdrawn by the FDA for safety reasons. These include Asia Black 25 plus others in the range, Methyldrene and Black Widow 25.

The supplements were found to contain high levels of undisclosed salicylic acid, which is present in white willow extract.

According to the FDA:

Salicylic acid is acutely toxic, not recommended for oral use and is harmful if swallowed. Nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal irritation, loss of hearing, sweating to severe reactions of blurred vision, mental confusion, cerebral oedema and cardio respiratory arrest which could be life-threatening may occur.

It continues:

Since the labelling does not state salicylic acid is contained in the product, individuals who are allergic, elderly, have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding problems, consume ? 3 alcoholic drinks per day, or take concomitant medications containing salicylates are at higher risk for toxicity.

How to Take Asia Black 25

one capsule daily after meals. Do not exceed more than 3 a day.

Asia Black 25 Concerns:

  • The side effects. This supplement looks extremely dangerous.
  • If the advertising can mislead customers by claiming to include “real” ephedra what else are they not telling us?
  • Is this supplement really made in the USA? It obviously does not conform to basic safety standards if the FDA has withdrawn it for toxicity.

What Does Asia Black 25 Claim To Do?

According to the product information:

Asia Black 25 Ephedra Diet Pills are for people who know what they want out of an Ephedra diet pill.
The Asia Black 25 Ephedra Diet Pill consists of an ECA stack containing Ephedra, Caffeine and Aspirin, extending its massive Thermogenic power.

The Aspirin part of the formula is present in the White willow extract – a natural source of the well-known drug and high in salicylic Acid.

There are four key features to this supplement

  • Increased metabolism
  • Suppressed appetite
  • Increased energy
  • Fast weight loss

The Ephedra content is explained but it is misleading:

Ephedra is the most powerful Thermogenic available, which is why it stands as the undisputed king of diet pill ingredients. Ephedra turns up your body temperature by several degrees, causing you to burn calories like a fat-burning furnace.

Maybe so, but not the type of ephedra contained in this supplement. After all the ephedra in Asia Black 25 is Ephedra Nevadensis, which is ephedrine free. It used to be drunk by the Mormons who avoid artificial stimulants!

According to the advertising:

Asia Black 25 will give you the energy support you need. You’ll feel more vitalised than ever as you reach your weight loss goals.

There are no links to any clinical evidence or explanation about how these effects are achieved.

So What Is Asia Black 25 and What Are The Ingredients?

Asia Black 25 is a fat burning diet pill. Serving size is equal to one capsule.

“ECA” Proprietary Blend (302 mg): The ECA stack is a combination used as a stimulant method of weight loss and refers to the initials of the components; ephedra, caffeine and aspirin. Before ephedra was banned, it was marketed in numerous supplements.

  • Caffeine Anhydrous: Most diet supplements contain caffeine and it is ideal for giving you a quick energy boost. It can increase the speed of the metabolism and help fat burning but the effects are often short-lived as you become accustomed to use.
  • White Willow Bark Powder: This herbal extract contains a chemical called Salicin, which can cause stomach problems and internal bleeding, and although it is sometimes touted for weight loss, there is no evidence that it works. Aspirin is derived from white willow but has been modified to avoid the problems of side effects.

  • Ephedra Nevadensis powder: Also known as Mormon tea, this type of ephedra does not contain the stimulant ephedrine. It is sometimes taken to treat sexually transmitted diseases but it lacks evidence. Safety is unknown.

Asia Black Energy-Building & Fat-Burning Support Blend (433 mg):

  • Paullina cupana extract (seed) (22% caffeine): Also known as Guarana, this seed contains more caffeine than the coffee bean.
  • Citrus Aurantium extract (guaranteed 30% synephrine): Stimulant often used as a replacement to ephedrine but comes with many of the same health concerns. Can decrease appetite by increasing stress hormones as well as cause “energy” levels to be increased. Potentially dangerous and linked with heart attacks and strokes.
  • Cayenne pepper (fruit) (40,000 Heat Units): Believed to increase fat burning but lacks any real evidence that it is effective in supplement form.
  • Yohimbe extract (bark) (guaranteed 8% yohimbine): Chemical derived from a tree in Africa called the Yohimbe. Yohimbine increases blood flow and is a stimulant with aphrodisiac effects making it popular in treatments for erectile dysfunction. However this ingredient is unsafe and is on the “dirty dozen” dangerous ingredients list. Side effects include changes to blood pressure, increases in heart rate and even heart attack and seizure. Here in unknown quantities and potentially dangerous.
    Source:http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/
  • Green Tea extract (guaranteed 95% Polyphenols): Polyphenols are antioxidants, which are proven to prevent damage caused by free radicals. Catechins found in green tea help burn fat, especially when used in conjunction with caffeine, which increases fat oxidation.
    Source:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18326618
  • Panax Ginseng extract (root) (guaranteed 4% ginsenosides): Ginseng is an adaptogen – meaning it can provide a general boost to feelings of wellbeing, stamina and concentration. Can be dangerous if you have any type of heart or blood pressure condition. It is a diuretic so will cause you to pass urine more frequently.
    Source:http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/1000.html
  • Bladderwrack powder: Seaweed is a natural source of iodine so may affect the thyroid gland and as a result the speed of the metabolism. Based on animal testing, it may lower blood sugar levels but the safety and effectiveness for human use has not yet been established. Can be contaminated if harvested from polluted seas.
    Source:http://www.healthline.com/seaweed-kelp-bladderwrack
  • Zingiber officinalis root powder: More commonly known as ginger, a culinary spice that may have health benefits.
  • Evodia Fructus (fruit) (guaranteed 10% Evodiamine): Some clinical testing on mice has indicated that Evodiamine can reduce fat deposits. It appears to act as a thermogenic but it lacks human clinical testing regarding weight loss.In animals, it caused contractions of the uterus and reduced litter size.
    Source:http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/evodia
  • Yerba Mate powder (leaves): Caffeine-rich herbal extract often drunk as tea in South America. May help weight loss if taken in sufficient quantities (not know here).
  • L-Tyrosine: Amino acid, which you can obtain through diet if you eat meat. It is believed to help training and is popular with body builders for this reason. L Tyrosine raises adrenaline levels and can make you feel too on edge to eat.
  • N-Acetyl L-Carnitine: Form of Amino acid that helps the body convert fat into energy. May have an effect on metabolism and muscle development.
  • African Kola Nut Extract (seed) (guaranteed 10% caffeine): The Kola nut contains more caffeine than the coffee bean and was once a principle ingredient in Coca Cola. Doesn’t seem to have any particular use other than as a source of caffeine.

Asia Black 25 also contains vitamins and trace mineral Chromium.

  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCL) (500 mcg):
  • Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) (150 mcg):
  • Chromium (as chromium Picolinate) (30 mcg):

So What Does All This Mean?

Asia Black contains some very questionable ingredients and comes with some very misleading advertising. Ephedra Nevadensis (Mormon tea) is not going to provide the effects of the ECA stack and the Salicin content – the aspirin part of the formula is of deep concern. It is classified as toxic at high levels and can lead to internal bleeding.

We are very concerned that batches of the supplement have been withdrawn for safety reasons because of high levels of Salicin.

Many of the other ingredients are known for potentially dangerous side effects. Yohimbe and Synephrine are as dangerous as ephedrine and just because these are legal does not mean they are safe.

In fact, one of the safer ingredients in this supplement is probably the ephedra.

Take this supplement and you will probably notice unpleasant side effects.

Does Asia Black 25 Have Any Side Effects?

Asia Black 25 comes with an extensive list of health risks. These are taken straight from any list of side effects mentioned by any website highlighting the risks of ephedra and call us cynical but in our opinion, are here to make it look as if this supplement contains the banned ingredient.

However, ingredients like synephrine and yohimbine do come with many of the same side effects, so this is useful information.

Side effects mentioned in the product information include:

  • Insomnia,
  • Nervousness
  • Tremors.
  • Rapid heartbeat,
  • Dizziness,
  • Severe headache,
  • Shortness of breath or other similar symptoms.
  • Heart attack and stroke.
  • Sleeplessness
  • Nausea
  • Appetite loss
  • Individuals who consume caffeine with this product may experience serious adverse health effects.

Side effects not mentioned by the advertising include:

  • Internal bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Kidney failure
  • Allergic reaction

Caution:
Warnings: Not for use by individuals under the age of 18. Do not use if pregnant or nursing.

The patients of thyroid disease, blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or facing any problems of urination due to prostate gland enlargement should not take the drug unless advised by the physician.

Consult a physician before using this product if you have, or have a family history of, heart disease, angina, thyroid disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, recurrent headaches, bleeding disorder, depression or other psychiatric condition, glaucoma, difficulty in urinating, prostate enlargement, or seizure disorder, if you are using a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO[) or any other dietary supplement, prescription drug or over-the-counter drug containing ephedrine, pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine (ingredients found in certain decongestants, allergy, asthma, cough/cold and weight control products).

In addition, you should avoid this supplement if you are allergic to aspirin, suffer from stomach ulcers or trying to conceive.
Evodiamine may cause bleeding and birth defects.

Any Asia Black 25 Reviews From Customers?

We found four customer reviews on the Cloma Pharma website but it was hard to find any comments elsewhere.

One customer spotted the “fake ephedra” straight away and was unimpressed, “There are some good Ephedra products out there but this is a fake one. Though it lists “Ephedra” its simply plant power that does not contain active Ephedrine Alkaloids.”

Another customer was satisfied:

This product works fast helps burn fat boost energy great…

And:

Took this daily. First thing in the morning for a few days. Then started taking one mid morning as well before working out. Sustained energy throughout the day. Adjusted training to suit.

So Does Asia Black 25 Work?

Despite the fact that this supplement does not contain ephedrine, it contains other stimulants that will cause many of the same side effects associated with ephedra.

In addition, there is this question surrounding the Salicin content and numerous batches of Asia Black have been withdrawn for safety reasons.

If the safety concerns do not put you off, there is no real evidence that chemicals such as those contained in synephrine and Yohimbe are effective for long-term weight loss. These sympathiomatic agents – chemicals that induce the “flight or flee” response, have a poor history of long term success for weight loss and are just not worth the risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.

Watchdog Verdict

We are very unimpressed with Asia Black 25 and feel that this must be one of the worst supplements we have ever reviewed.

Firstly, Asia Black 25 comes with some very misleading advertising. The 25 mg of so-called Ephedra is nothing more than Mormon Tea and does not contain the banned stimulant ephedrine. In fact, it is one of the safest ingredients in the supplement. Although that is a good point in a way, it does seem a deliberate attempt to deceive the customer and in our opinion is underhand and tricksy.

However, there is nothing safe about this supplement. The blend of caffeine, Synephrine and Yohimbine will all have strong stimulant effects. Synephrine and yohimbine are known to cause heart attacks and strokes just like ephedrine, so just because these ingredients are legal does not mean they are safe.

In addition, the other ingredients are a matter for concern. White willow extract is dangerous at even low levels and the fact that this supplement has been found to contain toxic high levels by the FDA and recalled is a matter for concern.

Finally, there are very few customer reviews for Asia Black 25. This is not a high profile supplement and thankfully, very few people have appeared to try it despite the low price.

It is an easy decision. We would not touch this supplement ourselves so there is no way that we would ever recommend it to anyone else. We reject Asia Black 25.
