BioBurn

There are many retailers of supplements in the UK that have launched their own brands and products, such as Boots and Superdrug. There is one pharmacy, Chemist Direct, that is entirely online, who have launched their own metabolism boosting weight loss aid called BioBurn.

Below we take an in-depth look at BioBurn to see how effective it is at aiding weight loss.

BioBurn Pros

  • Preliminary trials available seem promising

What You Need To Know About BioBurn

We have mixed feelings about BioBurn. The main ingredient has had limited clinical research conducted into its effectiveness, and whilst the two preliminary trials available seem promising, they leave out vital information about the results of the study. For example, both claim that the studies suggest that Sinetrol Xpur could be used to help reduce weight, but fail to state how much weight the consumers lost. Without better research into Sinetrol Xpur, we cannot recommend any supplement that uses the ingredient, including BioBurn.

With no individual ingredient quantities listed, it is not possible to accurately establish the strength of this supplement. However, with a high daily recommended dose of 6 capsules, it is possible that significant amounts of the active ingredients are delivered over the course of the day. On the other hand, (again, as ingredient quantities are unknown), taking six capsules per day could increase the chances of side effects occurring.

What Are The Side Effects Of BioBurn?

CLA can cause stomach upset, diarrhoea, nausea and fatigue. CLA can also increase triglyceride levels in some cases.

Side effects of capsicum can include increased sweating and a slightly raised body temperature, stomach irritation, stomach upset, flushing and a runny nose.

How Much Does BioBurn Cost?

BioBurn is only available from the manufacturer’s official website, Chemist Direct. A single bottle of 60 capsules costs £14.99 plus delivery charges.

Our Verdict On BioBurn

There is no money back guarantee on offer from the manufacturers. Depending upon the number of capsules taken per day, the cost of the product is either very reasonable on the low end (£14.99 a month if taking 2 capsules per day), or quite expensive (£45 per month) if taking the maximum daily dose.

Overall, we do not recommend BioBurn to our readers.

What Does BioBurn Claim To Do?

According to the manufacturers, ‘BioBURN is a thermogenic or a metabolic enhancer. It works by stimulating the thyroid and enhances the amount of energy your body burns, helping you to burn calories and lose weight.’

Does BioBurn Work?

The main problem with BioBurn is that we do not know any of the ingredient quantities used in each serving. It also appears unlikely that some of the ingredients are present in sufficient quantities to be effective at aiding weight loss; CLA, for example, needs to be take in very large doses to see any effect, and even then it is unpredictable.

CLA does appear to have some effect upon the body, somewhat reducing fat mass and aiding muscle growth in consumers who are exercising regularly in order to build muscle. It may not result in weight loss overall, but as it may aid muscle growth, it could therefore indirectly boost the body’s metabolic rate. There is also the worry that it is an unreliable or unpredictable supplement. Studies report vastly different effects upon the body, with some noting no changes at all.

Green tea also contains a variety of catechins. Some of these, especially EGCG have been linked with increased thermogenesis in the body. Thermogenesis is the creation of heat which burns calories in the process, and so could contribute to weight loss efforts.
Capsaicin, the active thermogenic ingredient found in peppers also appears to be a thermogenic ingredient, although its strength is debated. This could burn additional calories whilst it is in the bloodstream, by making the body create additional heat.
Chromium regulates blood sugar levels, and so could help to prevent sugar crashes and cravings, theoretically helping dieters to stick to their meal plan. The weight loss results seen in trials are tiny, and are only seen after a prolonged period of use.
L-carnitine is an amino acid; when used to aid muscle building it is used in much higher doses than are found here.

Overall, it appears that BioBurn could potentially aid weight loss; the main ingredient in BioBurn is Sinetrol Xpur, and whilst preliminary studies indicate that it does work to aid weight loss, they are missing many details, such as the actual amount of weight that consumers lost over the course of the trial. With such vague information available about the main ingredient of BioBurn, and no individual ingredient quantities, it is difficult to establish how effective BioBurn actually is at aiding weight loss.

What Are The Ingredients of BioBurn?

The ingredients used in BioBurn are detailed below. No individual ingredient quantities are provided, and they also fail to mention any proprietary formula quantities either on the official website. The label on the bottle reveals that each capsule contains 465 mg of the MetaMax proprietary formula. The lack of individual ingredient quantities makes it much more difficult to establish whether or not the product is effective, as even effective ingredients are going to have little or no effect if they are present in insufficient quantities.

MetaMax Proprietary Formula 465 mg

  • SinetrolXpur®- Orange and Grapefruit Extracts: SinetrolXpur is a patented and branded blend of orange and grapefruit extracts. Preliminary studies have shown that consumers taking SinetrolXpur lost more inches from their waist and hip circumference measurements than placebo groups, suggesting that it does aid weight loss. However, both preliminary trials that we found failed to outline how much weight the consumers lost over course of the 12 week trials.

  • Green Tea Extract – 80% Polyphenols: Green tea is high in a group of antioxidants called catechins. Studies have suggested that catechins increase thermogenesis in the body, whilst caffeine increases energy expenditure by boosting the metabolism slightly for few hours.
    Source: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/70/6/1040.full
  • CLA – Conjugated Linoleic Acid: Naturally found in dairy products, beef and safflower oil, conjugated linoleic acid may help to reduce body fat, but may not cause changes to body weight. The average daily diet provides between 15 and 174 mg of conjugated linoleic acid, but studies have used much higher levels. Human studies of CLA have produced contradictory results, and it is described as not only a relatively poor fat burner, but also an unreliable one.

  • L- Carnitine – L-Tartrate: One study found that supplementation of L-carnitine, L-tartrate reduced muscle tissue damage from exercise and sped up recovery time.

  • Capsicum: Capsaicin is found in Cayenne pepper (also known as Capsicum) and is thought by some
to play a role in weight loss. Some studies suggest it could suppress the appetite mildly, whilst others suggest that the heat causes a thermogenic reaction in the body, burning more calories for a period of time. However, there are also studies that show cayenne has little or no effect upon weight loss attempts.

  • Chromium Picolinate, 25mcg (62% ECNRV *): This is used primarily to lower fasting blood sugar levels and to lower insulin levels in people who have type 2 diabetes. In terms of its potential effect upon weight loss, it is possible that taking chromium picolinate by mouth for 2 to 3 months might produce a small weight loss of about 1.1 kg.

Does BioBurn Have Any Side Effects?

There are some potential side effects associated with the use of some of the ingredients found in BioBurn.

CLA can cause stomach upset, diarrhoea, nausea and fatigue. CLA can also increase triglyceride levels in some cases.

Chromium can lower blood sugar levels, and so should not be used by diabetics before they consult their doctor. Whilst generally lowering blood sugar levels is not problematic, if this product were to be taken when the consumer already had low blood sugar levels, they could develop side effects such as dizziness, light-headedness and even fainting.

Side effects of capsicum can include increased sweating and a slightly raised body temperature, stomach irritation, stomach upset, flushing and a runny nose.

Green tea contains naturally occurring caffeine, although it is unclear whether the extract used in BioBurn is a caffeine-free extract or not; Consuming large quantities of caffeine can lead to headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia. Green tea can also cause constipation.

Are There Any Customer Reviews For BioBurn?

Below are the customer reviews that we were able to locate for BioBurn. Customer feedback was very limited, with just two reviews that we could locate, but overall, the reviews were very positive but realistic about the actual strength and role of the product alongside diet and exercise.

BioBurn is the best burner I have tried so far. Although you cant take them and sit around and think you will loose weight by just consuming these. You have to excersize and then you will utilize the effects of these pills. Highly recommended if you really wanna loose weight!

I would agree with the other review, these are good supplements but you have to make an effort too by eating sensibly and exercising 🙂 I dont go to the gym, but i have a simple routine of walking my dogs twice a day for about 30 minutes each time and i do an intense chore workout which is only for 10 minutes but i do it 4 days a week lol! My only negative point would be the taste of these, i find it very unpleasant so i take them with juice!

Where Can I Buy BioBurn?

BioBurn is only available from the manufacturer’s official website, Chemist Direct. A single bottle of 60 capsules costs £14.99 plus delivery charges. The website also offers a 5% discount for signing up to their auto-reorder program, but as this only works out as 75 pence off each bottle, this is not a significant saving. We recommend avoiding auto-reorder or auto-ship programs as they are easy to forget about, can be difficult to cancel, and nearly always end up costing the consumer more in the long run.

A single bottle contains 60 capsules and so if taken at the maximum daily dose of 6 capsules, would only last for 10 days of use. Whilst initially BioBurn appears to be a cheap supplement, if consumers need to take as many as six capsules each day, then the long term cost of use escalates quickly.
