We have looked at one product manufactured by Natrol before, and we couldn’t help noticing that there were only minimal differences between the two products.
Natrol are the manufacturers of Carb Intercept Phase 3 and a number of different other supplements, including Slenderite, reviewed here.
They have been in business for over 30 years, and claims to be driven by consumer needs, delivering ‘nutritional products with uncompromised quality, service, and innovation through the best that science, nature, and technology can offer’.
Their facebook page states that they are based in Los Angeles, but no address is listed in their contact information. Those who wish to contact Natrol can phone 1-818-739-6000, email [email protected], or can chat with a nutritionist during selected hours via the website. The official website is filled with prompts to speak to their nutritionist on a live chat, and so this function is easy to find.
Take 2 capsules right before eating your starch containing meal.
Do not exceed 4 capsules per day.
Each bottle of Carb Intercept Phase 3 contains 60 capsules, or 30 servings, but as consumers can take up to 2 servings (a total of four capsules) per day, each bottle can last as little as 15 days, depending upon the consumer’s diet.
According to the manufacturer’s website, the product has a ‘1-2-3 lean formula’, which addresses weight loss from 3 directions, ‘to help support your weight loss efforts naturally’.
Above is the description of how the company claims the product works, but below we detail how each individual ingredient affects the body and weight loss, based upon the available clinical research.
Carb Intercept Phase 3 contains numerous ingredients to help tackle weight loss in various different ways. The ingredient quantities provided below are per serving of two capsules. Consumers can take up to 4 capsules per day.
We compared the ingredients list for Natrol Carb Intercept Phase 3 with Slenderite, another Natrol product, and found that other than Slenderite containing 5-HTP, and Carb Intercept Phase 3 having slightly more caffeine, the ingredients were generally the same.
White Kidney Bean extract has been studied in humans, but only in a small number of trials. The amount used per day is between 750 mg and 1500 mg when taking Carb Intercept Phase 3, which is less than the amounts used in successful clinical trials.
This suggests to us that results may not be as noticeable as in the relevant studies, but that it could still boost weight loss efforts. There is a greater amount of evidence to support the use of caffeine, green tea and chromium in aiding weight loss.
It is possible that whilst the body is getting used to the effects of the carb blocking ingredient, white kidney bean extract, users may experience stomach pains, increased bowel movements and flatulence. Some users of carb blockers in general report severe gas and bloating throughout their use of the products. Discomfort and tenderness in the stomach is not uncommon.
The use of carb blockers may seriously reduce or limit the creation of alpha-amylase, the enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates in the stomach. Whilst this will aid weight loss in the short term, it may become unhealthy to continue this in the long term. Some users report heartburn, as their body struggles to adapt to the imbalance of enzymes in the stomach.
Consumers who eat large amounts of carbohydrates whilst using the diet pill may experience sudden diarrhoea following meals. This is because of the large amount of food that is being passed through the digestive tract without being fully digested.
It is also possible that carb-blockers may interfere with vitamin absorption. Whilst in the short term, this may not cause significant health problems, the use of carb blockers should not be long term.
Because the product also contains green tea, there may also be some caffeine present. Caffeine is both a stimulant and a diuretic, and so may lead to headaches, increased urination, dehydration, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations and insomnia. Chromium may lower blood sugar levels, and so this product should not be used by diabetics, as it may interfere with their medication.
Customers have reported some instances of side effects. Stomach cramps during the first few days of use seem to be the most common side effect, although many users experienced no side effects at all. Insomnia has also been mentioned occasionally in customer reviews.
Two customers who left reviews were admitted to hospital with a range of symptoms, including extreme shortness of breath, low energy levels, mood changes, hives, and a racing heart. Whilst these side effects appear to be relatively rare, customers should avoid this product if they are allergic to any of the ingredients, or have a known sensitivity to caffeine.
Consult your healthcare professional prior to use if you suspect a medical condition, are taking prescription drugs, or are pregnant or lactating.
This product contains caffeine.
Too much caffeine may cause nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, and occasionally, rapid heartbeat.
Do not exceed the recommended intake.
Not recommended for use by children under 18 years of age.
There are a few reviews for this product on the official product website:
I really like using this product because it’s safe and it works.
I buy this product mainly during the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays and for summer cookouts. It works great at helping me to not put on extra pounds from consuming so many carbs.
There are plenty of other reviews available on Amazon.com, where the product is also sold. These reviews are generally positive, with just over half the reviews being 5 stars, and the rest of the reviews being evenly spread amongst lower ratings.
I received a sample of this product and I was very satisfied the way it got rid of my food cravings. Just followed the instructions on the bottle 2 capsules twice daily with a meal. Obviously plenty of water and no junk food and in two months I have lost 22 pounds. You don’t need anything else but this product.
Don’t get this wrong, this is not a substitute for a correct diet and exercise regimen, however it definitely contributes to weight loss and weight control. I take 2 capsules 15-20 minutes prior to each meal and I continue to lose weight. I started with the Phase 2 in February and eat the same basic foods I normally eat (just smaller portions) and ride my bike 3 times per week (8 – 10 miles) and have loss a total of 44 pounds thus far. I started at 326 and now weigh 282 and still dropping. I loose approximately 1 to 1.5 pounds per week consistently. Just to see if this product works I stopped for 2 weeks and the weight loss cut in half. I definitely recommend this product when used properly.
I purchased it to help me lose weight. I have not seen any change in my weight loss after haven taken them now for 2 weeks. They are also expensive for having to take 4 pills per day.
One GNC customer mentioned some side effects but overall was fairly impressed with the product.
I bought this about a month ago and I love how it feels like it uses everything you eat to fuel your body. The first week I did get stomach cramps 2 or 3 times, but nothing that bad. I plan on using it regularly, but I haven’t had many results. Keep in mind that I take 1 capsule in the morning with breakfast and 1 with lunch, not the 2 capsules 2 times a day like it says. But even so, this product does work. I might just have to stop fearing the cramps and take the recommended dose.
It appears from the reviews that some customers have benefitted from using this product, whilst others have noticed no results at all. This may be because of the individual’s diet in two ways; how many calories they were eating per day, and how much of their diet was carb based. A diet with no carbohydrates would not be affected by a carb blocking ingredient, and a diet high in carbs and calories might not be affected enough by a carb blocker to see much of an effect.
However, all of the ingredients are clinically proven, which is actually fairly rare in the diet pills market. There may not be as much white kidney bean extract present as in clinical studies, and whilst this may affect the potency, in the long term Carb Intercept Phase 3 in theory will boost weight loss results, when combined with a complementary diet.

No money-back guarantee is offered by Natrol on their products. We were also unable to locate a returns policy on the Natrol website.

As for Carb Intercept Phase 3 itself, whilst all the ingredients have clinical evidence to support their use, some of these ingredients are used in insufficient quantities. They also cause a range of side effects. The diet of the consumer is incredibly important when using a carb blocker, and this may make this type of product unsuitable for many who are not willing to completely alter their diet, rather than to merely restrict calories.
The product appears to be a cheap option, but is more expensive than it initially appears, as each bottle only contains enough capsules for 15 days of use. This means that new customers who like the product may need to take a break whilst waiting for another batch to arrive, or customers feel that they need to buy several bottles without even trying the product first.
Overall, the ingredients used in Carb Intercept Phase 3 are promising, but this product is fairly inadequate because of the manufacturers and their policies, as well as the ingredient quantities.
We reject Carb Intercept 3.
