So is Detonate XT a safe alternative? And does it work? We take an in depth look at Detonate XT to find out more about this supplement.
Detonate XT is a fat burner that contains a blend of stimulants with ingredients to enhance mood derived from natural herbal extracts. Its aim is to reduce appetite and cravings, boost a sluggish metabolism and raise energy levels.
Detonate XT contains stimulants caffeine, Yohimbine and Citrus Aurantium. Yohimbine is a chemical derived from a West African herb called Yohimbe. It is often used as an aphrodisiac but it also has an androgenic effect meaning it increase adrenaline, inducing the flight or fight response.
Citrus Aurantium derived from orange peel extract is a stimulant. It contains natural chemicals including synephrine that stimulates adrenaline and the central nervous system. Both Yohimbe and Citrus Aurantium will increase the speed of the heart rate and blood pressure so this supplement will not suit you if you have any health concerns. These ingredients are popular with body builders looking for an intense energy rush to fuel training and workouts.
The final stimulant is caffeine. This needs no explanation – it is the world’s favourite energy booster and pick me up and can have weight loss capabilities too. More unusually, Detonate XT also contains some mood enhancing components. Velvet bean a plant extract that grows in Africa, believed to increase dopamine and adrenaline levels, and is sometimes smoked for recreational purposes. The other mood enhancer is Sceletium Tortuosum, more widely known as Kanna. Like Velvet Bean, Kanna is sometimes used in legal highs as a replacement to cannabis and is believed to have many of the same effects.
The final ingredient is Garcinia Cambogia – a fruit extract that shows up in many mainstream weight loss supplements. Garcinia Cambogia contains Hydroxycitric Acid, which is believed to reduce appetite, block fat and increase serotonin levels.
As a dietary supplement, begin by taking one serving (1 capsule) in the morning on an empty stomach and one serving (1 capsule) 5-6 hours later in the mid-afternoon to assess tolerance.
If well tolerated, an additional capsule may be added to the morning serving for a total of 3 capsules per day.
You are advised not to use for longer than 4 weeks followed by a subsequent 4 week break and not to exceed 3 capsules in any 24 hour period. Users are advised to read the product warnings before use.
Detonate XT was bought onto the market by US company Gaspari Nutrition to replace an earlier supplement simply called Detonate. Detonate was a popular sports supplement but following laboratory analysis was found to contain an amphetamine type compound called N-ethyl-alpha-ethyl-phenethylamine, or “ETH” for short.
ETH was not disclosed on the label and despite Detonate being advertised by Gaspari as a natural sports supplement, any athletes would have been banned for doping following taking it. Obviously, there are real health issues too with taking amphetamines.
Pieter Cohen an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School said that the research into Detonate and Craze – another supplement that contained the same compound indicated,
an industry-wide problem in which new synthetic stimulants are introduced as supposedly natural products without consideration of the safety of consumers.
Gaspari Nutrition was founded by pro body builder Rich Gaspari in 2001 following his retirement from competition. Gaspari products are popular with the body-building niche and include everything you need for competition and performance such as protein powders, nutritional supplements and more. The company refused to make any comment on Detonate.
Detonate XT comes with all the same claims that Gaspari made about original Detonate.
This ‘thermogenic amplifier’ will provide:
It claims to resolve the problems of:
According to Gaspari you ‘will feel the power from the first try’ and is a
‘Clinically backed and intelligently formulated solution to help you reach your goal’.
The product information lists the ingredients and explains how they work but given Gaspari’s very recent history of including unnamed ingredients which do not show up on the label, can we really believe their claims?
Detonate XT is a fat burner. Serving size is equal to one capsule.
Detonate Blend (178mg):
The effects from Detonate XT may be unpredictable and it will probably depend on your own physical make up with relation to the effects. Some people may find that the heart rate and blood pressure is increased which is potentially dangerous and although stimulants decrease the appetite, it is not safe way to lose weight or is particularly sustainable.
There may be a mood altering effect or a spaced out feeling thanks to the Kanna and Velvet bean. The latter is also known for causing physical side effects including headaches and a pounding heart rate.
The principle ingredient Garcinia Cambogia does not have much evidence that it really helps weight loss beyond a minimal effect and although this ingredient is regarded as safe, it is not very effective.
The proprietary blend contains some very questionable ingredients in unknown quantities so it is hard to assess the strength and the likely effects. It is important to note that the Citrus Aurantium is according to Gaspari a patented blend manufactured in China so this could be even more dangerous than it appears.
Leaving aside potential additional ingredients that may be contained in Detonate the listed contents come with some health concerns and side effects.
Potential side effects may include:
Avoid if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Do not take if you have any health issues relating to heart or blood pressure or mental health such as depression.
Avoid if you are taking prescription medication and do not combine with OTC treatments, especially stimulants.
Ask your doctor for advice before taking.
Gaspari do not provide any warnings but the label advises you not to exceed use and to take this supplement for no longer than 4 weeks.
There is a lot of customer feedback for Detonate XT. Some customers have mentioned side effects. One customer reported,
Not good. Had bad feeling, space head, stomach pain.
Another customer said,
This stuff made me feel horrible. There was an impending sense of doom. I don’t get along with Yohimbe all that well, but my body adapts…. I would actually stop taking this for a few days, level out, and then try again…. It didn’t make me feel all jittery and out of control like others have. It’s just a weird thing with this stuff.
However, the overriding opinion was that Detonate XT just does not work as well as original Detonate.
This product is nothing like Detonate and should not be given the same name.
I wish the original Detonate formula was not taken off the market as it was amazingly effective for superb energy, unmatchable weight loss & fat burning properties and mood lift. Sadly, Detonate XT does not give the same results.
Many customers felt the same. That said there were some positive comments such as these:
Worked for me. Gave me energy and it did suppress my appetite. Will be buying another bottle after I cycle off this one.
Detonate XT may help support weight loss and some customers are happy but the overriding opinion is rather negative. Some users have struggled with the mood altering effects too which is of concern. In addition, the stimulants are in fairly low quantities and although this is good for health, Detonate XT is not the same product as original product Detonate.
Detonate was dangerous and contained amphetamines and this is probably why it was so popular. People looking for an alternative in Detonate XT are mainly disappointed. It is easy to see why.
There is no real evidence that Garcinia Cambogia is effective for weight loss. It has undergone numerous clinical tests on rats and the diet pill industry has been quick to make the association that it will work for humans, but results have not been convincing.
One test carried out on 135 obese subjects had promising beginnings but concluded,
Garcinia Cambogia failed to produce significant weight loss and fat mass loss beyond that observed with placebo.
Gaspari Detonate XT is available from some retail outlets and supplement stores across the USA. It is also available from various online supplement retailers who specialise in body building.
At the time of writing, the Gaspari website is under construction but Detonate should soon be available to buy direct from the company. However, the recommended price is forecasted to be $46.99, which does seem very expensive.
In the meantime, Detonate XT is available via Amazon. 1 bottle of 90 capsules (1 month’s supply) costs $18.97. You can also buy Detonate XT via Amazon UK. 1 bottle of 90 capsules (one month’s supply) costs £33.96 including delivery.
Detonate XT is not covered by a guarantee.
Detonate XT looks to be an unpredictable supplement. Its principle ingredients Garcinia and caffeine are safe but the proprietary formula contains some questionable substances in unknown quantities. Yohimbe and the Chinese made Citrus Aurantium are potentially dangerous and both known for increasing adrenaline, the heart rate and blood pressure. Putting your body under stress is not a healthy way to boost your training or an effective way to lose weight.
Although the mood boosting ingredients may not be that dangerous, not everyone will enjoy their effects. Nobody has mentioned feeling calm , happy or high. Instead, the only references to mental effects have been around feeling spaced out or a feeling of impending doom. It does not sound like much fun and we cannot see the relevance to weight loss.
If you are looking for an alternative to the original Detonate, this supplement does not really tick the same boxes. This supplement is probably safer than that one but it still poses some dangers to health, especially around heart and blood pressure. Gaspari have past form with including some dodgy ingredients in their supplements and at the end of the day, we find it difficult to trust this company.
It is an easy decision. Detonate XT just looks unreliable and dangerous. We would not recommend anyone to take it so have no other option but to reject it.
