The most important thing to mention about Dexaprine XR is that it has been banned in several countries (including the UK). The reason for this is that it contains potentially dangerous ingredients. An older version of this product, just called Dexaprine, used to contain DMAA, but this was removed and the updated version had XR added to the name. Even still, this product counts bitter orange extract as an ingredient, as well as some synthetic, amphetamine-like ingredients that are not listed on the label, but were found in the formula by a group of Dutch researchers.
Pros
Cons
Below, we take an in-depth look to see how effective Dexaprine XR is as a weight loss aid, as well as how safe the supplement really is.
The customer reviews and ingredients list both suggest that this product could significantly increase the body’s metabolic rate, as well as increase energy levels. It is thought by some that one ingredient, Acacia Rigidula, contains compounds that could suppress the appetite significantly, but there is almost no detailed research into Acacia Rigidula and its effects upon the body.
The main problem we have with this product is its strength; the product is so strong that even the most experienced of stimulant supplement users, including bodybuilders, report a variety of side effects associated with this product. The huge variety of serious side effects and their severity has even led to the product being banned in the UK and the Netherlands. Dexaprine XR may theoretically work to aid weight loss, but it can also lead to horrible and unpleasant side effects that could even result in a trip to the hospital.
Dexaprine XR has such dangerous potential side effects that it has been banned in several countries. For a full list, please see the Side Effects section below.
As it has been banned, you cannot buy Dexaprine XR from the official website any more. Some third party retailers still sell it, but prices will vary.
Dexaprine XR is a thermogenic diet pill manufactured by iForce Nutrition, a company based in California, USA. They offer a range of weight loss and workout or training related supplements, including TT-33 which we have previously reviewed here.
iForce Nutrition describe themselves as marking ‘the beginning of interactive nutritional science’, and as the:
first human performance company to bridge the gap between the functionality of innovative cutting-edge nutritional science and the interactive application of nutrition for athletic performance enhancement. A revolutionary new approach that guarantees the results you demand.
They can be contacted using the information provided on their official website.
As a dietary supplement, take 1 caplet on an empty stomach before breakfast. If you want extreme results, take 1 caplet on an empty stomach before breakfast and then another caplet 6-8 hours later. Do not exceed two caplets per day.
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) considers “Dexaprine XR an unlicensed medicinal product”, and as such banned the sale of Dexaprine XR within the UK in August 2013. Dexaprine XR is also banned in the Netherlands.
The original formula of Dexaprine contained DMAA, but Dexaprine XR and other current formulations of Dexaprine apparently do not contain DMAA. However, USA Today reported in May 2014 that Dutch researchers found a ‘cocktail of synthetic stimulants’ in Dexaprine, including ‘a synthetic amphetamine-like compound and deterenol, a compound briefly explored in pre-clinical drug development but never fully researched for its effects in humans.’ iForce Nutrition, the manufacturers of this product, have been in trouble before, pleading guilty to manufacturing supplements containing synthetic steroids back in 2011.
According to one sales website, the benefits of Dexaprine XR are as follows:
Caffeine is known to boost the metabolism for a few hours after consumption, and may have a very mild effect upon the appetite, although this is short lived. The product contains both caffeine as a separate ingredient, and green tea, which naturally contains some caffeine. Green tea also contains a variety of catechins. Some of these, especially EGCG have been linked with increased thermogenesis in the body. Thermogenesis is the creation of heat which burns calories in the process, and so could contribute to weight loss efforts.
Bitter orange extract is a stimulant ingredient that will increase the metabolism. When combined with caffeine, as it is in this supplement, the effects of both are amplified.
Acacia Rigidula is under-researched, especially considering that it naturally contains so many different compounds that could have a whole range of effects, both positive and negative, on the body.
One concern we have with this product is that a group of Dutch researchers found ingredients in Dexaprine XR that were not listed on the label; whilst it is possible that some of these compounds are found naturally in Acacia Rigidula, which contains over 40 different compounds, there were some ingredients that were synthetic and amphetamine-like in their structure.

The ingredients used in Dexaprine XR, according to one sales website, are listed below. The individual ingredient quantities are not provided, as the product consists of three proprietary formulas. There is a total of 645 mg of the active ingredients per capsule, according to the label.

Extended Release Energy Complex:
Alpha-2 Adrenergic Activation Complex:
There are numerous ingredients used in Dexaprine XR that could cause a range of different side effects, some of which could be very serious. The product has been banned in two countries already because of numerous reports of side effects, including ‘nausea, agitation, palpitations and one cardiac arrest’.
Side effects associated with the use of Bitter Orange include increased heart rate and increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, fainting, and even heart attack and stroke in healthy patients. The Mayo Clinic has recommended avoiding use of Bitter Orange and its extracts because in their opinion, the risk of using the product is not worth the pay-off of some weight loss that could be achieved using other means. Consumers should remember that the effects of the stimulants found in Bitter Orange are enhanced when combined with caffeine.
Significant quantities of caffeine can cause side effects such as headaches, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations and problems sleeping. Green tea and guarana are also sources of caffeine. Green tea can also cause constipation.
Rauwolfia Serpentina can cause dryness of the mouth, drowsiness, depression, vivid dreams or nightmares. It will also lower blood pressure. It should not be combined with antihistamines or alcohol, as it can add to their effects and cause drowsiness.
Acacia Rigidula contains nicotine, and so could be addictive. It has also been associated with numerous other side effects, including increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, jitters, stomach ache, energy crashes after a few hours, and light-headedness. There could be many more side effects of this ingredient, as it has been severely under-researched, and has never been researched in humans over long-term use.
Not to be used by those under the age of 18. Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not suitable for those who have any serious medical condition or are taking any prescription or over the counter medication. Not suitable for anyone who is sensitive to caffeine and other stimulant ingredients. Not suitable for anyone with high blood pressure, or any other cardiac-related health issues. Consult your doctor if you are unsure about the suitability of this product for you. Stop using at least two weeks before any surgery.
There are numerous customer reviews for this product. Many of the positive reviews compare it favourably with other diet pills that are no longer available, as they were pulled from the market due to their ephedra content (a now-banned stimulant that causes a huge range of serious side effects).
I couldn’t imagine taking it every day for a week. My heart pounded so strong it was uncomfortable to the point of being very unpleasant. And I’m no stranger to pre work out performance sports enhancement supplements.
Sits on my shelf…..sorry I bought it but the copy was compelling and I’m trying to get rid of love handles that exercise alone isn’t helping.
This Dexaprine works. I’ve used 4 bottles over the last two years at different body stages over that time. It works every time. I have to set my alarm and remind myself to eat otherwise, i’d go all day without eating. Lots of energy. It can make you a bit jittery at times.
Dexaprine is definitely a go to supplement for me! It suppresses my appetite perfectly and definitely helps to drop some weight when I need it!
If you want a big jolt of caffeine jitters, you’ll get it with this if you take the whole tab. I started with half a tab, as recommended, but didn’t really notice anything, just a mild caffeine buzz. So the next time I took a whole one, and about an hour later my heart started pounding extremely hard and my hands were shaking. That lasted about 2 hours. As discomfiting as that was, it would be worth it if they worked as an appetite suppressant, but they absolutely did not, just made me hungrier.
Best thing since the original OxyElite Pro formula! Haven’t yet tried anything that works as well as this. I can only take half a dose, as it makes me incredibly jittery for hours! But curbs appetite, gives lots of focus and energy, and is the only thing since OxyElite that I have found works!
Makes me extremely irritable where I was snapping on my family for anything. Sounds light everything was very irritating. Didn’t notice any energy from the product did suppress appetite a little bit but there’s far better products out there.
Overall a solid and very strong fat burner. Consistent energy that lasts throughout most of the day.
If you are sensitive to fat burners or similar products then I recommend you look for another product. If you are looking for a strong product that is consistent then I would highly recommend.
There is no money-back guarantee for this product. Returns policies will vary by individual retailers.
Refunds are typically not given if the customer does not receive the product because of their nation’s import and customs regulations.
Dexaprine XR is not available direct from the manufacturers. As it is no longer legal to sell this product in the UK, there are many third party retailers that have sales pages for the product, but have added that the product is permanently discontinued. This includes eVitamins’ UK store and All Star Health.
A single bottle of Dexaprine XR costs $28.99 plus delivery charges when purchased from Best Price Nutrition. The company also offer multi-buy discounts: ‘Buy 2 for $27.99 each and save 4%’ or ‘Buy 3 for $26.99 each and save 7%’.
Dexaprine XR is also available from Supplement Warehouse, for $19.99 per bottle plus delivery costs. Each bottle contains 60 capsules.
Because the product is banned in both the UK and the Netherlands, anyone who is ordering the product in these countries from abroad could have the product confiscated and destroyed at customs. Refunds are typically not given if the customer does not receive the product because of their nation’s import and customs regulations.
Overall, we are not impressed by Dexaprine XR at all, and advise all of our readers to avoid the product, no matter how ‘stim-tolerant’ they proclaim themselves to be. The product is not safe, with a huge list of severe side effects being reported and two countries banning the sale of Dexaprine XR due to health and safety concerns.
The product has been investigated by Dutch researchers, and they found that Dexaprine XR contained ingredients that were not mentioned on the ingredients list, one of which is synthetic and appears to be similar to amphetamines.
The product is not covered by any money-back guarantee, and some of the companies that still sell the product have dodgy reputations online, with one site even claiming that they have the original Dexaprine (complete with DMAA) in stock. Because of the DMAA content original formula Dexaprine is banned in numerous countries as well, and is no longer in production.
British and Dutch customers who do order the product risk it being confiscated at customs.
Overall, we do not recommend Dexaprine XR to our readers. It is an unsafe option that could potentially cause long term health problems, and so we advise our readers to avoid it at all costs.
