Fucoxanthin Slim Facts

  • On sale from Life Extension – Foundation for a longer life
  • Each bottle contains 90 capsules or one month’s supply
  • Xanthigen is a US patented supplement and made by Spanish company PoliNat

Fucoxanthin Slim is a straightforward looking diet pill that may increase the speed of your metabolism so help you lose weight more easily. The idea is that you use it as support to your weight loss regime. This supplement comes in the form of soft gel capsules so looks easy to swallow and digest.

Unlike many fat burners on the market, Fucoxanthin slim does not contain any stimulants so should not cause any side effects.

Instead, it contains just one ingredient – a branded formula called Xanthigen, which contains brown seaweed extract fucoxanthin combined with Punic acid, which is naturally found in pomegranates.

Fucoxanthin is a xanthophyll – a pigment found in brown seaweed with a similar make up to carotene – the pigment in carrots. Studies carried out via animal testing suggest that it increases thermogenin a protein (uncoupling protein) that promotes fat burning in white adipose tissue.

Fucoxanthin and seaweed supplements are popular right now and may have numerous health benefits including anti tumour abilities in cancer cells and preventing oxidative stress. Punic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid similar in composition to conjugated Linoleic acid (CLA). Animal testing on rats suggested it may have anti obesity action and like fucoxanthin may have anti cancer properties too.

Xanthigen has generated publicity after it was talked up by Dr Oz on his US TV show. Dr Oz described it as a way to turbo charge your metabolism.

It looks pretty good at first glance. Xanthigen has undergone clinical testing on human volunteers and in both tests, results were positive.

In the first test, the volunteers were seen to increase the speed of the metabolism by 18.2 %. In the second test volunteers lost 4.5 % more weight than those who were just on a diet. Scientists monitoring the trials reported that Xanthigen was safe and appeared to be well tolerated.

How to Take Fucoxanthin Slim

Take one (1) softgel three times daily, 15-30 minutes before meals, or as recommended by a healthcare practitioner.

Clinical research using Xanthigen® indicates that it may take 6 weeks of consecutive use to experience significant thermogenic response. Fucoxanthin Slim Concerns:

  • Could be a waste of money. Lots of negative feedback
  • Scientists do not really know how or why it works
  • Could you find a better deal on Xanthigen elsewhere?

What Does Fucoxanthin Slim Claim To Do?

The Fucoxanthin Slim advertising provides some facts about the effects of aging on the metabolism,

Canadian scientists have reported that a decrease in energy expenditure with aging may cause 120–190 excess calories to be stored in the body every day, which translates to an extra 13–20 pounds of body fat a year!

According to this, the answer lies in taking Fucoxanthin Slim, rather than cutting down on your calorie intake. Fucoxanthin is,

Derived from a species of Japanese brown seaweed and provides a unique solution for safely boosting cellular metabolism.

As the advertising explains,

Thermogenesis is the process of producing cellular energy in the form of heat, which can be triggered by a factor called mitochondrial uncoupling protein-1. Japanese scientists discovered that a plant extract called fucoxanthin activates uncoupling protein-1 that signals fatty acids to generate energy rather than remain stored as body fat.

And,

Scientists have found that the weight loss benefits of fucoxanthin are enhanced by combining it with pomegranate seed oil. The active ingredient in pomegranate oil (Punic acid) reduces blood supply to fat cells and prevents them from increasing in size.

The product advertising provides links to all the clinical evidence and advises you to combine this supplement with a healthy diet and exercise programme.

So What Is Fucoxanthin Slim and What Are The Ingredients?

Fucoxanthin Slim is a health and weight loss supplement. Each serving is equal to one soft gel capsule. This formula only contains the patented proprietary brand Xanthigen which is manufactured by Spanish company Polifenoles Naturales SL (also known as PoliNat) based in the Canary Islands. Many companies sell Xanthigen supplements in varying strengths– you cannot buy this supplement over the counter direct from PoliNat.

  • Optimised Fucoxanthin Slim Blend (200mg): There is evidence that Xanthigen will work in the way as described. It has recognised triacylglycerol (blood lipids) lowering effects in humans. Other results indicate that Xanthigen suppresses adipocyte differentiation and lipid accumulation through multiple mechanisms and may have applications for the treatment of obesity. However according to scientists, ‘the mechanism remains to be fully elucidated’. In other words, it appears to work but they don’t know how! It requires further testing to find out why, but it seems to be effective.

So What Does All This Mean?

Fucoxanthin Slim contains Xanthigen a branded supplement that looks favourable for health and weight loss. However, clinical research suggests that you need to take it for at least 6 weeks before you see any results so it looks like you need to be in for the long haul with this supplement.

In addition, will this thermogenic response really make a difference to your weight loss?

According to the Fucoxanthin Slim information as we age, we burn off 130 less calories a day. This is not really a lot and is around the same calorie count as a couple of chocolate biscuits. You could possibly get the same weight loss effect by making some minimal dietary changes.

Does Fucoxanthin Slim Have Any Side Effects?

Fucoxanthin Slim looks safe. However, some people are allergic to pomegranate so if you experience side effects such as runny nose, swelling or difficulty in breathing cease use and consult your doctor.

Fucoxanthin appears to be safe and well tolerated but has not been investigated for long-term potential side effects. It contains iodine so check with your doctor first if you any thyroid issues.

Caution:

When using nutritional supplements, please consult with your physician if you are undergoing treatment for a medical condition or if you are pregnant or lactating.

In addition, if you are diabetic you may have to change your medication due to potential effects upon your insulin levels so it is important to get some medical advice first.

Any Fucoxanthin Slim Reviews From Customers?

There is some feedback for Fucoxanthin Slim and as ever it is a mixed bag. Some customers have not noticed any effect whatsoever. One customer complained,

The instructions on the bottle say it will take up to 6 weeks to see results. I am in my tenth week with no results. Done with it.

Others have had the same experience,

Did absolutely nothing for weight loss. I wouldn’t recommend for anybody. Used this for 90 days and lost zero weight.

And

Many have used this and have seen results. I’ve been using it for months and I’ve seen none! I’ll keep using until finished and hope for the results.

Other customers are more positive,

Thermogenic fat burner. Claims are true. I find this product to be the only weight loss enhancer that works and doesn’t contain any stimulants.

And,

I used this product and experienced hunger control and some weight loss while using it. I would probably use this product again.

The opinion appears to be pretty much split down the middle with some people very happy with this supplement and others finding it a complete waste of time. As one lady said,

My husband and I both have been trying this product and I honestly don’t see or feel much difference. I’m still not sure what it was supposed to do.

So Does Fucoxanthin Slim Work?

It obviously does work for some people, although not everyone. There is a lot of genuine customer feedback and although results are not earth shattering, many people have found Fucoxanthin Slim to help support weight loss and be free from side effects.

However, don’t expect miracles. It takes at least 6 weeks to work and even then, many users do not appear to notice any difference.

That said there might be benefits to taking this supplement that you may not notice but will improve your health.

The scientific evidence looks very favourable and although it requires further testing so that scientists can understand how it works, it may be worth trying if you feel like committing to long-term use.

Watchdog Verdict

Fucoxanthin Slim looks to be a good quality supplement that comes from a company who seem genuine about helping us live longer through a healthy lifestyle and supplements.

This supplement contains just the patented branded formula Xanthigen and it is important to point out that Life Extension are not the only company marketing Xanthigen supplements. You may find better deals elsewhere.

Xanthigen comes with scientific evidence that it is effective for helping weight loss and promoting good health but it does take a long time to work. In addition, you may need to take it forever to get the benefits. The product information does not make this clear.

If you are looking for something to support a slow and steady weight loss it may help you but that said a high proportion of customers have tried this long term and have noticed zero difference.

As a diet pill we are not so sure it is worth the money so although we like it, we don’t think it is effective enough to add to our approved list.

  1. I used this product 5 years ago. I was taking double the recommended dosage because the clerk in the health food store told me it was safe to do so. During my second month of taking Fucoxanthin-Slim I had a heart attack with cardiac arrest in the ambulance. My magnesium and potassium were critically low. Have there been any reports of lowering potassium/magnesium levels or of other effects on the heart? I had no previous issues and have not had any since discontinuing Fucoxanthin-Slim 5 years ago. Have there been any reports or studies where more than the 3 pills a day have been taken?
