What You Need To Know About Hey Girl Cleanse Tea

There are actually two different types of Hey Girl Cleanse Tea, but their labelling and naming are almost identical, despite having different ingredients. The official Hey Girl website is sparse, and provides almost no information about the products the company sells.

The Cleanse teas are both laxative based detox teas that may reduce bloating and water retention.

What Are The Side Effects Of Hey Girl Cleanse Tea?

The ingredients found in Hey Girl Cleanse Tea predominantly consist of laxative and diuretic ingredients.

Diuretic ingredients such as nettle and dandelion can cause dehydration. It is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day whilst using this product, as severe dehydration can lead to even more unpleasant and serious side effects.

Laxative ingredients can cause dehydration, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach issues and cramps. They can also cause health issues such as dependency if used over a long period, and can interfere with the absorption of medicines and the contraceptive pill.

How Much Does Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Cost?

Hey Girl Cleanse Loose Leaf Tea can be purchased directly from the official Hey Girl website. A single bag of loose leaf tea, containing 14 servings, costs CAD$29.99, plus delivery charges.

The same sized bag is available from amazon for USD$21.49, plus delivery charges. Customers with Amazon Prime can get free 2 day shipping.

Hey Girl Chocolate Mint Body Cleanse + Detox, containing 20 teabags, costs $21.99 from amazon. Delivery charges may apply. Customers with Amazon Prime can get free 2 day shipping.

Our Verdict On Hey Girl Cleanse Tea

Overall we are not very impressed by this product, or by its manufacturers, Hey Girl, in general. The company have failed to provide a lot of necessary information on their official website, from the ingredients to the potential side effects, and even where the company are located. They also suggest that the tea is a weight loss tea, when there are no ingredients in the tea that can help to promote weight loss at all (other than by making consumers visit the toilet more). This means that some of the only information provided on the official website is misleading and incorrect.

The company state on the amazon sales page that there is a money-back guarantee on their products, but there is no information about this on the website.

Numerous medical professionals and medical bodies such as the Mayo Clinic all agree that it is not necessary to detox, and that laxatives are not suitable for long term use. Whilst the product may reduce bloating, it may also cause diarrhoea and stomach cramps, as well as a long list of other potential side effects.

Overall, we do not recommend Hey Girl Cleanse Tea to our readers, in either its loose leaf or teabag forms.

Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Review

Hey Girl Cleanse Tea is a laxative-based tea drink that can be purchased from amazon or from the manufacturer’s official website. There are actually two different teas that are sold under the Hey Girl Cleanse Tea name, that both have almost identical branding, but a completely different ingredients list. One is a loose-leaf tea, Hey Girl Cleanse Loose Leaf, whilst the other is chocolate and mint flavoured, and comes in teabags.

Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Facts

  • Manufactured by Hey Girl
  • Loose leaf laxative tea
  • 14 servings per packet

Hey Girl manufactures a range of teas, but beyond that, we were unable to find much information about the company at all. Their official website does provide two email addresses (detailed below), but little else.

[email protected] (UK)

How to Take Hey Girl Cleanse Tea

Chocolate and Mint Cleanse Tea: Bring water to a boil. Add 1 tea bag to 8 oz of water. Steep 6-12 minutes, depending upon desired strength. It’s best to drink after dinner or before bedtime.

Loose Leaf Cleanse Tea:
Bring water to a boil. Add 1 heaping teaspoon of loose-leaf tea into your tea filter or tea infuser. Steep 5-10 minutes, depending upon desired strength. Enjoy after dinner, or before bedtime.

The company fails to provide their address, a contact phone number, or even clearly state what country they are based in. We suspect that the company are based in Canada, because the website states prices in Canadian Dollars. The company can also be contacted through Facebook or Instagram, but their Facebook page reports a 72% response rate.

Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Concerns:

  • Little information available about manufacturer
  • Unclear information on returns/money-back guarantee (or lack of)
  • Lack of information on sales website – manufacturer unprofessional!

When looking at the actual products the company offer, there is little information on the official website. Whilst a brief description of each product is offered, along with the price, no ingredients information or safety advice is provided at all on the official website. Thankfully, the amazon sales page provides more information, as it includes a picture of the back of the packaging.

What Does Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Claim To Do?

The manufacturers describe Hey Girl Cleanse Loose Leaf Tea as “A special night time formulation of loose leaf tea to help clear out your system and leave you feeling lighter the next day.”

It is designed to reduce bloating, but the official website also suggests that it acts as a weight loss tea. They do not specify how it supposedly acts to aid weight loss.

Does Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Work?

There are numerous laxative and diuretic ingredients in this tea, and so it should be effective at increasing the frequency of bowel movements and urination. It should help to reduce bloating from water retention, but it can cause a range of side effects instead. Although the manufacturers describe it as a weight loss tea, it will not affect fat mass or aid weight loss in any way.

The tea is only suitable for short term or occasional use, because of the unpleasant side effects that are associated with long-term use, including dependency. Consumers should look for non-laxative and non-diuretic solutions for bloating and water retention, such as drinking more water, consuming less salt, and changing their diet to feature more fibre and less processed foods.

What Are The Ingredients of Hey Girl Cleanse Tea?

The ingredients used in Hey Girl Cleanse Loose Leaf Tea are found below, and the proprietary blend quantity is estimated to be the amount found in one cup of the tea, if directions for use are followed properly.

Proprietary Blend 3571 mg:

The Hey Girl Cleanse Chocolate and Mint Tea contains a different ingredients list, featuring far fewer ingredients. The ingredients are provided below, and are per tea bag.

Mint and Chocolate Flavour: Proprietary Blend 2500 mg

  • Organic Senna Leaf: See above.
  • Organic Peppermint Leaf
  • Organic Licorice Root
  • Organic Bitter Fennel Fruit: See above.
  • (other ingredients: Natural Milk Chocolate Flavour)

Does Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Have Any Side Effects?

The ingredients found in Hey Girl Cleanse Tea predominantly consist of laxative and diuretic ingredients.

Diuretic ingredients such as nettle and dandelion can cause dehydration. It is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day whilst using this product, as severe dehydration can lead to even more unpleasant and serious side effects.

Senna is a stimulant laxative; sennosides, the active ingredient in senna, are activated by natural bacteria in the large intestine. These then stimulate the nerve endings in the large intestine, causing the muscles in the intestinal wall to contract, encouraging movement through the bowels. This can cause painful stomach cramps. Fennel and dandelion also have laxative effects.

The most common side effect of taking a laxative product is a change in bowel habits. Some people may experience frequent loose stools and increased bowel movements, while others may find that their bowel movements stop completely. Dehydration is also a common side effect, as the body is expelling more water from increased bowel movements. Headaches and constipation are two side effects that may occur due to dehydration. Some people may experience diarrhoea, depending upon their own diet as well as the strength of the product they are using.

Over-reliance upon laxatives can also cause dependency, as the muscles in the colon become weaker. This is one of the main reasons why the product is only for occasional or short term use.

In general, side effects of laxatives are temporary, and will only last whilst the product is being used. Side effects can be minimised by drinking plenty of water throughout the day (rather than a large amount all at once), and altering the dosage of the product used. In this case, brewing the tea for a shorter time may make the effects more subtle. Altering your diet may also help, by increasing the amount of high-fibre foods, fruit and vegetables that are being eaten daily. It is better to change diet habits and prevent constipation in this manner, rather than treating regularly occurring constipation and dietary problems with laxatives.

Perhaps the most serious worry of using laxative and diuretic ingredients is that they can cause an electrolyte imbalance in the body. Calcium, chlorine, magnesium, phosphate, potassium, and sodium are all obtained from fluids, supplements, and foods, but increasing fluid output can decrease their levels in the body- even sweating due to exercise can significantly lower electrolyte levels. Side effects of low levels of electrolytes include muscle cramps, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, trembling, muscle weakness, and stiff or aching joints. In the most severe cases, more serious symptoms can occur, such as low blood pressure, tachycardia (rapid heart rate), sunken eyes, confusion or loss of consciousness for even a brief moment, and poor skin elasticity. If any of these occur, a medical professional should be consulted immediately.

Women who are taking the contraceptive pill should be aware that the use of laxatives can interfere with the absorption of the tablet, which could obviously reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive. Other medications may also be affected by this problem.

Caution:
Do not exceed recommended dose. This product contains senna leaves and several other laxatives and diuretic ingredients. This product is not intended for pregnant or nursing mothers or children under the age of 18. Do not use this product if you have abdominal pain, diarrhoea or loose stools. Rectal bleeding and/or failure to have a bowel movement after the use of a laxative formula may be an indication of a more serious condition. Should this occur, or if you have a known medical condition and are taking medication, consult your physician prior to taking this or any dietary supplement.

Are There Any Customer Reviews For Hey Girl Cleanse Tea?

There are hundreds of customer reviews for Hey Girl Cleanse Loose Leaf Tea on amazon, where the product is sold.
The majority of customer reviews are positive, but we also found numerous complaints about the taste and smell of the tea. Some people also felt that the product was not strong enough, as they felt little to no laxative or “cleansing” effects.

Hey girl tea did “not” work. I tried it for 3 days straight and got no results of a cleansing. I want my money back!

So the taste is fairly mellow and earthy. I took the product every night for the full 14 days and enjoyed it. I experienced some urgency in the mornings to use the restroom but was able to go to class and sit through lectures no problem. I lost 3 pounds while on this product and am happy with the way I felt!

I really enjoy this tea. It has a great taste and as long as you follow the instructions it doesn’t get that bitter taste most cleansing teas have. It also doesn’t attack your system to force you to have bowel movements, it allows your body to do it when it’s ready, no cramps, no pain. I drink it at night and by the next morning I’m regular and feeling better.
*Note: when it’s your first time, If you decide to drink it at night, I recommend not having a very busy day out and about the next day, you’ll find yourself in need of a bathroom pretty often until your body gets use to it.

Yes. This is awesome, although I do not recommend drinking this before one goes to work as it quickly works its way out of your system.

As for the chocolate and mint flavour, most reviews are positive, but there are some negative reviews from customers who disliked the taste or who were not happy with the strength of the laxative tea.

Okay this does not taste or smell anything like chocolate or mint. I don’t even know how that can be a claim. BUT……..it works! It’s not my favourite taste in the world, but it’s not horrible either. After drinking just one cup I successfully “Cleansed” 8 times the next day, no cramping, no urgency to go, just good old fashion “cleansing.” I’ve since been drinking a cup every 3-4 days in the evening, I have not had quite the same results, but still “cleansing” a little more than normal. I was not feeling the greatest in that area for a long time, I feel so much better now!

Does Hey Girl Cleanse Tea Offer a Money-Back Guarantee?

Hey Girl do not detail any returns policy or terms and conditions at all on their official website. However, the amazon sales page states: “HEY GIRL, if this tea doesn’t Cleanse your body, we will give your money back guaranteed!”

On amazon, the product is marked as “Fulfilled by Amazon”. This means that Amazon handles all customer service and product returns for “Fulfilled by Amazon” items. Contact amazon directly if you have any issues with your delivery or product.
