Below we take an in-depth look at Isagenix Isalean to see how effective this meal replacement shake range is at aiding weight loss.
Isagenix Isalean is a meal replacement shake range that comes in several flavours including chocolate, vanilla and strawberry cream. Each shake contains 240 calories, and is supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Provided consumers eat a low calorie meal for their third meal of the day, and ensure that they do not snack too much or drink high calorie drinks, they should lose weight quickly.
One huge problem with meal replacement shakes is that consumers often revert to their old eating habits after they stop using the product, and often regain some or all of the weight that they lost.
The whey protein found in Isagenix Isalean can cause a range of side effects including increased bowel movements, diarrhea, nausea, thirst, stomach cramps, fatigue and bloating. The change from a solid to mostly liquid diet can cause changes in bowel movements in general, and extreme hunger is an expected side effect, at least in the first few weeks of use.
Isagenix Isalean also uses psyllium, which is a natural laxative; again, changes in bowel movements is likely, and diarrhoea is possible.
Arguably, the most noticeable side effects of taking a meal replacement shake are psychological, as it is an extreme change to the consumer’s diet and routine.
Isagenic Isalean is an incredibly expensive meal replacement option; a canister of the product costs over $50, and only contains 14 meals worth of product.
If consumers are replacing two meals per day, this means that the product will cost over $200 a month. Obviously this will replace the cost of two meals per day, but even considering this, Isagenix Isalean is one of the most expensive meal replacement programs we have seen.
Taste and texture are huge factors when choosing a protein shake or meal replacement shake- especially if the product is being used as a meal replacement. If the product tastes bad, mixes poorly or has an undesirable texture, then consumers are much more likely to quit using the product and following their new meal replacement program. Customer reviews of Isagenix Isalean are divided over the taste of the product, with some people loving it, and others hating it. In general we dislike meal replacement products, as they are extreme methods of losing weight, which have high fail rates. They also do not teach better eating habits, and often consumers regain weight immediately after stopping use of meal replacement products.
Isagenix is a multi-level marketing scheme that places such a huge emphasis upon recruiting more consultants that it can only be compared to a pyramid scheme. We would recommend that customers avoid the company in general, because customers are the prime candidates to be recruited as Isa-associates, or at least pestered to do so. The company also runs an autoship program, which offers the product at a discount. We strongly discourage consumers from signing up to any autoship program, especially to purchase a product that ideally should not be used for more than a week or two every few months. They can also be incredibly difficult to cancel.
There is a 30 day returns policy which covers opened products, but this only applies to the first order of any particular product you order. The company will take repeat orders of the same product as a sign that you like the product, and so any subsequent orders are not covered by the refund policy.
The product is incredibly expensive, especially considering that each canister only contains 14 meals, and would only last for 7 days if used as instructed.
Overall, we do not recommend Isagenix Isalean to our readers.

Isagenix Isalean is a range of meal replacement shakes that contains 24 grams of protein and 240 calories per serving.
The powder comes in numerous flavours, including Creamy Dutch Chocolate, Creamy French Vanilla and Strawberry Cream. A Kosher Natural Creamy Vanilla flavour is also available in packets (not canisters), and there is also a Dairy-Free IsaLean™ Shake that comes Natural Berry Harvest flavour.
Isagenix Isalean is manufactured by a company called Isagenix, a multi-level marketing company based in the USA. They describe themselves as ‘an innovative health and wellness company providing personalized solutions for lifelong health and wealth’. They have a wide range of products in the categories of weight loss, energy and performance and healthy aging.
We discourage those who do visit the Isagenix website from signing up to be an associate. Their ‘simple’ money making plan for associates to follow the ‘You+2, Them+2’ scheme has the general layout of a pyramid scheme. Their promotional videos focus far more on the money an associate could make, rather on the products they would be selling. A quick look at Isagenixearnings.com also reveals just how few people make any money as an associate, with only 5.2% of associates being considered business builders (defined by earning total of $500 or more over the year 2015). Of this 5%, 83% earned less than $5,000 in the year 2015. Considering that a business builder start up pack costs $1099, it is clear that many people are not even making their investment back. Watching some of the promotional videos, it is clear that the focus is more on building your own business by recruiting other consultants, rather than selling products yourself.
Blender instructions: Add two scoops of Isalean Shake to 8 oz. purified water and blend for 30-60 seconds. If ice is preferred, combine ice and cold purified water equal to 8 oz.
Shaker instructions: Add 2 scoops of IsaLean Shake to 8 oz. cold purified water and shake well until completely blended.
Isagenix Isalean is described as;
A balanced 240-calorie, meal replacement clinically shown to support healthy weight loss and lean muscle growth with 24 g of high-quality protein.
The product is designed to aid weight loss by replacing much higher calorie meals with a nutritionally complete low calorie shake. In theory, having a meal replacement shake, which just needs to be mixed with water, is much more convenient and controlled than trying to work out what to cook for each meal.
In theory, Isagenix Isalean Meal Replacement Shakes can aid significant weight loss over time, and noticeable weight loss over just a few weeks, thanks to their incredibly low calorie content. If the consumer has two shakes per day, a 500 calorie meal, and 200 calories in snacks, and sticks to water and black tea or coffee, then they should have only consumed around 1200 calories over the course of a day- this is a low number of calories, and following this pattern daily should lead to significant weight loss over time.
However, it is also easy to self-sabotage with meal replacement shakes; using milk instead of water, or adding in fruit or peanut butter to improve the flavour and texture all add calories, which can add up very quickly. Consumers may also feel incredibly hungry whilst using these shakes, and may be more tempted to overeat when snacking or at their only solid meal of the day. We recommend tracking food using an app, to help monitor consumed calories; being aware of what we eat by tracking it can also help to identify where our dietary weaknesses are, and can help to create new, healthier eating habits that will help keep the weight off in the long term. Obviously, returning to your old eating habits after you stop using meal replacement shakes will typically mean regaining some or all of the weight lost again.
The ingredients found in Isagenix Isalean are detailed below. The exact values may vary slightly between different flavours, and any values are given per packet, which makes up one serving, to replace one meal. The product is supposed to be mixed with water, but if the consumer wants to mix it with milk or any milk substitute, or add in any extra fruits or flavourings, then they should remember that this will significantly increase the calorie count. Each serving contains 240 calories, and contains 24 grams of protein, 6 grams of fat, 24 grams of carbohydrates (of which, 11 grams are sugars) and 8 grams of fibre.
There is also a significant list of ‘non-medicinal ingredients’, which feature skim milk, numerous preservatives, flavourings (such as cocoa powder, cinnamon and salt) and sugars and sweeteners, including d-fructose and Stevia rebaudiana leaf.
Whey protein is a milk product; avoid if you are lactose intolerant, are allergic to milk, or dairy produce. Whey protein can cause:
Isagenix Isalean also uses psyllium, which is a natural laxative; changes in bowel movements are likely, and diarrhoea is possible.

There are hundreds of customer reviews for Isagenix Isalean Meal Replacement Shakes on amazon. The majority of the reviews are positive, with consumers losing significant amounts of weight in many cases. However, even in the positive reviews, there are complaints about the high price of the product.
I ordered this product from amazon because I have no interest in dealing with the company directly and getting roped into long term programs. Shipping was fast, product was sealed, contents not expired.
Generally speaking, I am opposed to meal replacement shakes because I feel they influence a dependence on a product rather than equipping you with tools for success.
But I digress. After reviewing a few MR shakes I thought I’d give this a shot. Right away the texture is superior. I mix 1.5 scoops with 8oz of water in a blender for about 15 seconds. The consistency is light and almost mousse-like. I haven’t tasted any grit or sand you get with most MRs.
The flavor is very mild. I’d even say the scent is stronger. I’ve read complaints about the flavor in other reviews and I theorize that many are comparing this to a milkshake and not other MRs. When you consider are the good things that are in this shake (and the bad things that aren’t) it makes the shake more palatable, but personally I enjoy the flavor. I don’t care for added sugar in beverages (I drink my coffee black) and I hate the metallic taste of stevia. This shake doesn’t have either which lends itself to the undersweetened taste many have complained about. Personally, I call this a benefit.
Does it work? Well, sure. But that depends on your math. This and no other MR contain magic bean extract that will make you burn fat. This is simply a device for calorie reduction…input vs output. If you drink this shake for two meals a day you are only at 480 calories with good margin for healthy snacks and dinner. Add bananas and peanut butter and you’re better off eating real food, because you’ve doubled the calories. That said, I have found this shake to be very filling and has helped me battle cravings (even during a particular week each month). So will you lose weight? Yes, provided you monitor the calories you consume. Can you do it without excercise? Sure, but it will be a slower process. I’m losing weight at 2 lbs a week based on 1200 calories per day with inconsistent excercise (due to frequent travel).
Why not 5 stars? Mainly because you are limited on flavors unless you buy through isagenix, to which I am principly opposed.
TL;DR: mousse-like texture, mild flavor, good ingredients, satiating, low calorie meal replacement, thumbs down for pyramid schemes.
Absolutely LOVED this product I lost 30lbs in 3 months! It kept me full and helped with my craving of chocolate boosted my energy and overall a wonderful product I didn’t have any bad side effects. I drank this in the morning on my way to work and before I went to bed. Plus worked out every other day.
I got this because the review looked good. I have tried other mixes and couldn’t use them because of their content and me having a bad reaction. I bought this and tried it for almost 60 day which is what most nutritionist would suggest for something to truly have a chance to work as it should. First let me say that is taste horrible. I tried to add fruit to the mix and all and I still had a hard time drinking. Also it didn’t mix well no matter what temp water I used. I wish I could return after this epic fail. I didn’t have a weight loss success and it was not satisfying to my appetite at all. Would not recommend to anyone. Not worth the money at all.
I received an item that had been previously opened/used when it was supposed to be new. Couldn’t/wouldn’t use this!!! Very disappointed.
While the shake tastes good, it’s very expensive and I’m sure I can find a similar product at a better price with less calories and less sugar. Seems to give you energy but I’m hungry in about 2 hours. It’s not really a meal. I’m trying other brands with no sugar and 1/2 the calories and lower cost so I probably will not order this again.
Retail customers and Associates (Members) have slightly different returns policies offered to them. As we advise our readers to not sign up to be an Associate, we have provided the Retail Customer returns policy below:
As a retail Customer, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to initiate a return of:
A. Your initial order of product placed, opened or unopened.
B. Any product(s) you are trying for the first time, opened or unopened. This applies to any order that you place.
The following items are non-refundable, except as required by law: shipping fees, administration fees, literature and sales aids, seasonal, discounted or promotional items. You are required to return all opened and unopened containers, as applicable, for a refund. If eligible for a refund, Isagenix will credit the original form of payment within 30 days of the product being logged as returned by our distribution center. Isagenix Isalean can be purchased from the official Isagenix website. There are several options available. Canisters, which contains 14 meals worth of the powder, cost $51.95 plus delivery charges. A box of individual sachets, containing 14 separate meal sachets, costs $52.95 plus delivery costs. A box of 14 sachets of the Natural Berry Harvest Flavour, which is dairy-free, costs $53.95 plus delivery costs.
The company sells internationally, and by clicking on the small flag at the top of the screen, consumers can ensure that they are purchasing from the correct page, and in their own currency. There are 12 country choices, including the USA, Australia and Canada, and even more language choices, but International delivery may also be available.
The product is also available from Independent Consultants who sell Isagenix products in exchange for a commission on each sale they make. Prices may vary between consultants; some may offer discounts, whilst others could even charge higher prices than the official website, but in theory they should charge the same prices as the official website. It also appears that an auto-ship program is available, which ships a new product monthly. We discourage our readers from signing up for auto-ship programs as they are easy to forget about, can be difficult to cancel, and often mean that the consumer spends more in the long term.
Isagenix Isalean is also available from amazon. There are numerous options here, as numerous Independent Consultants have set up to sell through amazon. A 14 meal canister of the chocolate flavour costs $42.30, plus delivery charges. A canister of the vanilla flavour is available for $41.77 plus delivery charges. A box of 14 sachets of the chocolate flavour costs slightly more, at $47.49 plus delivery charges.
