Lipodrene

Ephedra was banned in the USA by the FDA due to health concerns about the product, leaving many fans of the weight loss ingredient disappointed; since then many diet pill manufacturers have sought to find a new ingredient that is as strong as ephedra, whilst other diet pill manufacturers have sought to find way to include ephedra derivatives in their diet pills.

Lipodrene contains numerous stimulant ingredients, including an ephedra extract.

Below we take an in-depth look at Lipodrene to see whether this weight loss aid is safe to use, or even legal.

  • Hoodia Driven Appetite Control
  • Stop sugar cravings
  • 25 mg Ephedra per tablet

So What Is Lipodrene and What Are The Ingredients?

The ingredients used in Lipodrene are listed below. The quantities given are per serving of 1 tablet, but the individual quantities of each ingredient are unknown as the product contains proprietary formulas.

Proprietary blend with Thermo-RX and Extend-Rx Technology 557.5mg

  • Ephedra extract 25 mg: Ephedra is a stimulant substance that is now banned in the U.S due to reports of severe side effects, including 22 known deaths reported to the FDA. It increases the metabolism and could aid weight loss, but it is not safe or legal.
    Source: http://www.mayoclinic.org/ephedra–ma-huang
  • Acacia Rigidula Extract leaves (yielding 125 mg Phenylethlamine alkaloids including Methylsynephrine, B-Phenylethylamine and N-Methyl-Bphenylethylamine): This plant, originating in Texas, Mexico and Africa, supposedly contains over 40 active compounds, some of which are thought to increase the metabolism, as well as lipolysis in the body. However, very little investigation has been made into this plant in relation to weight loss, and so our knowledge of the plant is based on speculation rather than clinical results.

Methylsynephrine:

  • B-Phenylethylamine: More commonly known as PEA, this ingredient is derived from the amino acid phenylalanine. It is thought to increase alertness, aid in concentration and focus, and may also enhance mood, which are all arguably traits that dieters need help with in succeeding with their weight loss attempts.
    Source: http://www.livestrong.com/phenylethylamine-for-weight-loss/

N-Methyl-Bphenylethylamine:

  • Phenylethylamine HCL: More commonly known as PEA, this ingredient is derived from the amino acid phenylalanine. It is thought to increase alertness, aid in concentration and focus, and may also enhance mood, which are all arguably traits that dieters need help with in succeeding with their weight loss attempts.
    Source: http://www.livestrong.com/phenylethylamine-for-weight-loss/
  • 25 mg Synephrine HCL: A review of numerous studies concluded that use of synephrine resulted in an increase to the participants resting metabolic rate and energy expenditure, and moderate weight loss was seen in studies lasting over 6 weeks. However, there are some concerns about its safety being under-researched and the numerous side effects that have been associated with it.
    Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22991491
  • Theobromine: Theobromine is a mild stimulant. Thought to be a much milder stimulant than caffeine, and is unlikely to have any significant impact upon weight loss.
    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theobromine
  • Green Tea Extract 45 mg EGCG: Green tea is high in a group of antioxidants called catechins. Studies have suggested that catechins increase thermogenesis in the body, whilst caffeine increases energy expenditure by boosting the metabolism slightly for a few hours.
    Source: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/70/6/1040.full
  • Hoodia Extract (cactus): This plant extract was eaten traditionally in the South African bush to stave off hunger. There is almost no clinical evidence that actually proves that it works, and far more studies that show that the product is ineffective and unsafe, frequently causing a wide range of side effects.
    Source: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/28/us-hoodia
  • Cassia Nomame Extract (plant): Cassia Nomame is an herb from China, and is used in folk medicine as a diuretic. Despite its use in diet pills there is no clinical evidence in humans to suggest that it acts either as an appetite suppressant or as a fat burner.
  • Naringen (fruit): A compound found in grapefruits that accounts for its bitter taste, it is known to extend the amount of time that caffeine remains in the body. This would make the effects of caffeine also last longer. Research also suggests that Naringin enhances lipid (fat) metabolism in the body, which again could have positive implications for dieters.
    Source: http://www.lef.org/abstracts/codex/naringin_index.htm
  • 6,7 Dihydroxybermottin (fruit): Extracted from grapefruit, this ingredient is thought to be one of the compounds responsible for the ‘grapefruit juice effect’, which affects the metabolism of numerous medications and altering their bioavailability; this can lead to accidental overdose in some cases.
    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6%27,7%27-Dihydroxybergamottin

5-Methoxytryptamine HCL:

  • L-5-Hydroxytryptophan: More commonly known as 5HTP. 5HTP is used by the body to make serotonin, which primarily plays a role in regulating mood. Some studies, primarily in animals, have shown that 5HTP reduces the appetite, as well as boosting mood.
    Source: http://examine.com/supplements/5-HTP/
  • Yohimbe Extract (bark): Some studies have noticed increased blood concentrations of free fatty acids in participants who use yohimbe extract, suggesting increased rates of lipolysis. However, the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database has stated that there is insufficient evidence to claim it aids in weight loss.
    Source: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/759.html
  • Caffeine Anhydrous (100 mg): Numerous studies have shown that caffeine boosts energy levels and alertness, as well as mildly boosting the metabolism. The effects shown in studies are small, and some studies are inconclusive.

So What Does All This Mean?

There are numerous different stimulants used in the Lipodrene formula, and so this product could be a strong fat burner. Combining different stimulants increases the chances of side effects, so users are best off starting with a small dose and gradually increasing it to the recommended daily dose over time. It is also a good idea to avoid taking these capsules in the late afternoon or evening, as the ingredients can cause insomnia.

The catechins found in green tea increases thermogenesis in the body, and caffeine found in green tea will slightly increase the metabolism. These will both lead to more calories being burnt throughout the day, but the effects of both caffeine and green tea are considered to be small but significant.

Many of the ingredients are also under-researched, especially in relation to their role in weight loss, and even in their safety. Yohimbe, Acacia Rigidula and Theobroma Cocoa Extract are all under-researched, which makes it difficult to establish both the effectiveness and safety profile of Lipodrene.

The product also contains Ephedra, which is banned in several countries and has been linked with a huge range of side effects, some of which can be dangerous and even life threatening.

Cassia Nomame has little to no evidence to support the idea that it aids in weight loss in any way. At best it is a diuretic which may cause temporary water weight loss.

Does Lipodrene Have Any Side Effects?

There are numerous ingredients used in Lipodrene that are known to cause a variety of side effects, some of which are dangerous and even life-threatening. There are also several ingredients that are incredibly under-researched, including Acacia rigidula, and so the full list of potential side effects for these ingredients is unknown.

Ephedra has been banned as a supplement in numerous countries because of its numerous side effects, which can include dizziness, restlessness, anxiety, irritability, heart pounding, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, an increase in blood pressure, heart attacks, muscle disorders, seizures, strokes, irregular heartbeat, loss of consciousness, and death. It should not be combined with sources of caffeine such as green tea which is included in this diet pill.

Side effects associated with caffeine include headaches, increased urination, jitteriness, dehydration, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations and problems sleeping. Naringen also extends the amount of time that caffeine remains in the body. Caffeine in turn enhances the effects of synephrine, which carries its own set of side effects, including increased heart rate and increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, fainting, and even heart attack and stroke in healthy patients.

Yohimbe has been linked with irregular or rapid heart beat, kidney failure, seizure, and heart attack in rare cases. More common side effects include stomach upset, tremor, sleep problems, anxiety or agitation, high blood pressure, a racing heartbeat, dizziness, stomach problems, drooling, sinus pain, irritability, headache, frequent urination, bloating, rash, nausea, and vomiting.

Caution:
Avoid if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Not intended for persons under the age of 18. Consult your physician prior to use if you are taking any medication, including but not limited to MAOI inhibitors, anti-depressants, aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or products containing phenylephrine, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, phenylethylamine, or other stimulants. Consult your physician prior to use if you have a medical condition. Lipodrene is not suitable for anyone who is sensitive to caffeine and other stimulant ingredients.

Any Lipodrene Reviews From Customers?

Lipodrene has been sold on the GNC website in the past, and although the product is no longer available there, the customers reviews are still accessible.

I have mixed feeling of Lipodrene. I noticed how my heart was racing, even when I was calm and just sitting down. I eventually ended up returning the product due to my symptoms. I did however notice a difference in my appetite and did not snack much during the day. I would not recommend this product to those sensitive to caffine.

I use the product as an appetite suppressent. Especially during the day when I am at work. It works okay, not as great as Lipo 6, I tried to switch it up, but I do not think I will purchase it again

I believe in this product. It worked on me right away.At first I didn’t see any results til the following week. That is when I seen the results.I have been using this product for two years now.I lost 80 lbs the first year. Then I got really sick.Which I gain 60 lbs back. This time I have lost 25 lbs in less than two months. Now I’m working on losing more weight.I love this product.

My sister in law recommended this product after I had my son.I was very nervous to try anything, but I am so thankful that I did,it helped me get back to my original weight and also feel good while I was doing it. It curbed my appetite so I would not eat everything in my house and also gave me the right amount of energy to want to go to the gym after being up with an infant all hours of the night!I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is serious about loosing weight!

This products works..but be careful taking it. I took 2 caps the first time and got really jittery..basically you feel like you are on some kind of illegal drug. I also got a very bad headache the first night and lasted until the next day. Be very careful when using.

This product does not burn calories, just gave me the cramps and runs.

So Does Lipodrene Work?

Both the customer reviews and the ingredients list suggest that this product will aid weight loss, increase energy levels and aid fat burning, but that there is a very high chance of developing side effects. Numerous customer reviews mention feeling jittery, overexcited, and almost as if they were on strong, illegal drugs.

We believe that the use of acacia rigidula, ephedra and yohimbe mean that whilst Lipodrene could aid weight loss, it is a dangerous weight loss aid that frequently causes side effects and puts the health of the consumer at risk.

Where Can I Buy Lipodrene?

There are numerous packages available from the Lipodrene official website.

A single bottle containing 100 capsules costs $39.95. An order of two bottles costs $73.90.

An order of 3 bottles costs $110.85, whilst an order of 6 bottles costs $185.70. Delivery charges may apply.

The product has been sold at other retailers in the past, including the GNC website, but it appears that many companies no longer stock Lipodrene, as the product contains Ephedra, which is banned in several countries.

Advantage supplements sell a single bottle for $34.99 plus delivery charges.

The product is also available from both Best Price Nutrition andMy Supplement Store. The two companies have identical pricing and website layouts, and appear to be owned by the same company. At both these websites a single bottle of Lipodrene costs$34.95.

There are also several multi-buy discounts available:

  • Buy 3 for $32.95 each and save 6%

Watchdog Verdict

Looking at the possible side effects of Lipodrene alone, it should be clear to readers that we cannot approve this product. Ephedra is banned in several countries because of its serious, and in some cases life threatening side effects, and yet is a main ingredient in this diet pill. Because of this ingredient, which is combined with numerous other stimulants, including several sources of caffeine and the essentially unresearched acacia rigidula, consumers could lose weight, but they would be taking huge risks with their own health.

Even if customers ordered the product, there is no guarantee it would reach them, especially if the product was being sent internationally, as customs have been known to confiscate ephedra products. The manufacturers of Lipodrene have put forward some incredibly restrictive terms and conditions that they describe as a 60-day conditional money-back guarantee.

The official Lipodrene website states that the product is owned by a company called Nutrasource LLC, whilst many third party sales websites state that the product is owned by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals. It is possible that the product has been purchased by Nutrasource LLC from Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals. We could not find much information out about either company, other than that they appear to be based in the USA.

Dieters should never jeopardise their own health in order to lose weight, and so should definitely stay away from Lipodrene. Unsurprisingly, we do not recommend Lipodrene to our readers.

  1. I use this off and on. I would strongly strongly caution anyone that wants to use it to NOT use the amount recommended. I would NEVER consume a whole pill in a day much less 2 in the am and 1 at lunch. HOLY CRAP HEART ATTAC…my ey is not wor ing. I cut the tabs in 4 pieces- quarters and use one quarter per day. If I was wor ing out heavily I might consider ta ing another quarter tab right before the wor out. But even one whole one per day sounds crazy to me. Unless you would purposely li e to have a heart attac . Then ta e 3 per day li e the bottle says and within a wee you should have your super heart attac . I feel (at much lower doses than recommended) this helps me to breathe better and to ma e my body, normally hard to warm up, feel warmed up and ready to move. Also, I tend to feel better using this if I do get a decent wor out in. If I don’t wor out I don’t feel quite as good ta ing it. Probably because my body is li e “why did you ta e all those stimulants if you’re not even going to wor them out?” DO NOT CONSUME THREE OF THESE PER DAY UNLESS YOU HAVE A HEART ATTAC DEATH WISH!!! Cut them in quarters, or at least in half. One a day is plenty (too much 4 me)….
