Below we take an in-depth look at Lipozene, to see whether this supplement is effective at suppressing the appetite and aiding healthy weight loss.
It is very important to drink plenty of water whilst taking Lipozene, to both maximize the effectiveness of the supplement, and to minimize the chances of side effects such as constipation from developing. The product is a fiber supplement, and so consumers should expect an increase in bowel movements. Diarrhoea could also occur in some cases.
Although a single bottle of Lipozene is not very expensive when compared with many of the diet pills we have reviewed in the past, the low number of capsules per bottle and the high recommended daily dosage mean that actually, this supplement is expensive to use in the long term. A single bottle of 30 capsules will last for just 5 days if used at the highest daily recommended dose of 6 capsules per day! If purchasing from the official website, a 30 day supply would cost $90!
Lipozene contains a single active ingredient, glucomannan fibre, which does appear to reduce the consumer’s appetite by partially filling the stomach temporarily. This is supported by several clinical trials. However, like all supplements, it needs to be used correctly to work at its best, and consumers need to manage their expectations of the supplement. The manufacturing company appear to have used misleading phrasing in their sales pitch in the past, such as suggesting that the supplement melts belly fat and targets body fat, when it is merely an appetite suppressant that will help to reduce hunger.
The best effects of this supplement occur when it is combined with a reduced calorie diet, and it is used to help manage excess hunger that can cause the consumer to cheat on their diet.
Side effects can occur, and it is very important to drink plenty of water, both when taking the capsules, and throughout the day in general. This will both make the supplement more effective at filling the stomach and slowing digestion, and will minimise the chances of side effects such as constipation.
The main issues we have with Lipozene are the small number of capsules per bottle (which is just a 5 day supply), and the high cost of using the supplement in the long term. Consumers can find non-branded glucomannan supplements on numerous websites and at many health stores, which will be just as effective as Lipozene, but for a fraction of the price.
Lipozene is an appetite suppressing weight loss supplement. It contains glucomannan, a fiber that absorbs water and expands in the stomach, making the consumer fell fuller, quicker, and helping them to eat less overall. Because glucomannan affects the stomach, and is not a chemical appetite suppressant, it can only support dieting efforts, and will not affect emotional eating.
Lipozene is manufactured by Obesity Research Institute LLC., who are based in Reno, Nevada, in the USA. The company’s contact information can be found on the official Lipozene website, or on the Better Business Bureau page for the company.
How to Take Lipozene
Take one to two capsules, with at least 8. oz of liquid, 30 minutes before each meal, up to three times a day.
We have found numerous reports and complaints about Obesity Research Institute LLC, mostly about poor customer service. However, we also found numerous complaints about an autoship program that customers were unaware of when making their initial purchase. Having looked through the official website, we were unable to find any mention of an auto-ship program in the Terms and Conditions. It might be that the company have stopped offering this, especially if they have been threatened with legal action. Just in case, we recommend avoiding use of the official website. If you do want to purchase Lipozene, use a third party distributer, such as Walmart; not only is it cheaper, but you can be certain that your card details are safe.
- Complaints of misleading claims about supplement benefits
- Complaints about customer service and auto-ship programs
- Unnecessarily expensive!
What Does Lipozene Claim To Do?
The manufacturers of Lipozene make the following claims about the product and how it works to aid weight loss:
Lipozene® is made from Glucomannan, most commonly known as the Konjac Root. This water-soluble fiber has been cultivated as a weight loss aid in Japan for generations. The main active ingredient in Lipozene® is one of the most studied ingredients for weight loss. It is believed that this water-soluble fiber expands and acts as a dietary fiber gel in your stomach that will give you a a feeling of fullness, so you eat less and as a result, reach your weight loss goals quicker.
In fact, there are even studies that connect its main ingredient Glucomannan with alleviating constipation, helping to maintain healthy cholesterol and supporting healthy blood sugar levels.†
Lipozene® does not contain any stimulants. There are no known harmful side effects when used as directed.
The label lists the following benefits:
- Clinically proven
- Helps reduce weight
- Helps reduce body fat
- Safe and Effective
Does Lipozene Work?
Konjac root glucomannan capsules work by absorbing water upon contact and becoming bulky and gel-like in the stomach; this not only helps to fill the stomach but also slows the digestion process. The dieter may feel physically fuller and could thus go longer without eating. Although the consumption of glucomannan should be combined with a healthy diet, its effects could help to reduce snacking and help consumers stick to their diets. Notably, the product is also thought to slow the rise in blood sugar levels after a meal, because it slows down the digestive process. By slowing the rise in blood sugar levels, there is no sudden drop in sugar levels that would normally occur. It is this spike and drop pattern in sugar levels that is thought to cause sugar cravings which can often derail the diets of even those with the best of intentions.
The available clinical studies do generally suggest that glucomannan is somewhat effective as an appetite suppressant, and therefore can be an effective aid to weight loss. One study published in the British Journal of Nutrition in 2008 examined 200 obese patients dieting with the aid of glucomannan, other diet aids and placebos. On average, glucomannan helped the dieters lose just over four kilograms more than the placebo group. An earlier study in 1984 (published in the International Journal of Obesity) made a similar finding.
Overall, Lipozene could aid weight loss, if it is used to help the consumer to stick to a lower calorie diet plan by reducing hunger.
What Are The Ingredients of Lipozene?
The ingredients used in Lipozene are detailed below. The ingredient quantities provided are per serving of two capsules. Although the manufacturers describe the product as containing a proprietary blend, there is only one active ingredient in Lipozene, which is Amorphophallus Konjac, which is also known as glucomannan.
Proprietary Blend 1500 mg
- Amorphophallus Konjac (from Konjac root): Glucomannan is an ingredient that is derived from the root of an Asian plant called Konjac (Amorphophallus konjac). Glucomannan is a soluble fibre that has the capacity to absorb as much as 17 times its own weight in water. This means that it swells as it absorbs water, creating bulk in the stomach. It is this effect that causes a suppression of appetite. As it is considered a dietary fibre, Glucomannan is often used to treat constipation or to improve bowel movements. Several studies have suggested that Glucomannan causes a notable reduction in weight, promoting the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to definitively state that it can cause a loss of body weight when taken. However, one should note that not every study claims the same effect, and that weight loss can only be achieved when combined with a healthy diet. Source
Does Lipozene Have Any Side Effects?
Despite the supplement containing only one active ingredient, side effects can still occur.
Glucomannan works by absorbing water in the stomach, making it very important to drink plenty of water when taking the product and adjust the dosage if problems occur. Consumers who do not drink enough water when taking glucomannan may experience constipation and stomach cramps. As glucomannan is a fibre, it is likely that its usage will increase the rate of one’s bowel movements. Diarrhoea may also occur. Those who experience diarrhoea should cease using the product immediately. Glucomannan also affects blood sugar levels. Diabetics should consult their doctor before taking any glucomannan-based product.
There is also a slight risk of choking as the product absorbs water and expands in size, and so the product should not be taken out of the capsule to be taken as a powder.
Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Diabetics should consult their doctor before purchasing this or any other glucomannan product. Not intended for use by persons under the age of 18. Do not use if you have difficulty swallowing. If you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing or breathing after taking the product, seek immediate medical attention. Do not exceed the recommended serving as improper use does not enhance results. Do not use if inner safety seal has been broken.
Are There Any Customer Reviews For Lipozene?
There are hundreds of customer reviews for Lipozene on amazon, with the majority being negative. Many of the negative reviews mention that the product used to be marketed as a product that would ‘melt body fat’, which the manufacturers no longer claim, probably because it is really inaccurate if taken literally. Currently the label claims ‘helps reduce body fat’, which is less inaccurate.
Please be aware that this product is simply the natural supplement Konjac root or also called glucomannan. It is simply fiber that expands and fills up your stomach in addition to adding fiber to your system. If your problem is excessive hunger and you feel you could benefit from eating less and being less hungry, then this may work for you. However, it is much cheaper to buy from an online supplement company like Swanson Vitamins and taking the amount advised on the Liposene package which is 1500mg two time per day. Swallow with an entire glass of water 1/2 hour before your meals. THIS IS NOT A MIRACLE WEIGHT LOSS PILL, JUST A STOMACH FILLER. I believe the commercial claims for liposene are complete garbage…IT DOES not MELT BELLY FAT!
I’ve been taking lipozene for about 2 weeks, I take 4 pills a day, 30 min before lunch and dinner. I must say this did not help me lose any weight what so ever. I’m really disappointed this product did not work for me. I 5’3 and weight 165; by no means am I fat but i was trying to lose about 10 to 20 pnds. I’m very fit and healthy eater, I workout everyday for an hour. I do crossfit, boxing, cycle, and go to the gym. I don’t know what went wrong and why it didn’t work for me but this was my experience with it. It didn’t make me feel sick or send me to the bathroom. I had no bad side effects what so ever. Oh well I’m glad I just bought 1 bottle instead of buying the package deal..
– They automatically set you up for monthly auto pay without your consent.
– The pills just give you PAINFULL cramps and diarrhea everyday, all day.
– You have to pay to return the empty bottles to get a refund.
– The bottles must be returned within 30 days of the day you receive them so you don’t actually get a full month to try it.
– The bottle says to take 6 pills a day and both bottles only have 60 pills together so you really only get 10 days worth.
– The bonus energy pills don’t do anything.
I personally didn’t see any difference with this product.
Did not lose a single pound… If I could have gotten my money back for it, I would have…
I saw the advertisements and was excited to try this product. The instructions say to take two tablets 30 minutes before each meal with water. The bottles that I purchased have 30 tablets and are around $10 per bottle. That means each bottle will last 5 days. (If you eat three meals per day. Five days, times six pills per day.) So I bought four bottles for what I though would be a good three week test.
My method is to weigh in on the same time and day each week. (Saturday morning after breakfast.) So today was my second week *diligently* using this product. The results so far are completely disappointing: I have actually gained almost two pounds over that time. (This is within my normal weekly weight fluctuations.) Which means I have lost no weight at all. Looking in the mirror, I see no discernible change in body fat (of course estimating by looking in the mirror is purely subjective.)
I’m going to finish the last of it and will update my post if something miraculously changes over the next week. I hope someone out there is benefiting from this product, but for me ‘zilcho’ is the best description. Thanks for reading.
I have been taking Lipozene for 3 days now and here are my thoughts.
1: It does what it’s supposed to do. It makes you feel fuller faster and crave snacks less.
2: It makes you want to change your eating habits. I find myself wanting smaller portions and not having seconds.
3: If you try to eat like you always have YOU WILL PAY! I took the 2 pills then ate 2 chili-dogs. I soon spent about 45 minutes on the toilet. It does not like over-eating.
4: There have been no adverse side effects. I am not shaky, wired, restless, overly thirsty, bloated or tired. I feel the same as I always have, just eat less and am drinking more water.
5: I am losing weight!
Hope this helps!
Does Lipozene Offer a Money-Back Guarantee?
According to the manufacturers of Lipozene, the company do offer a money back guarantee, but there is a processing fee, and so customers will not get back all of their money. Having said that, the processing fee is lower than other companies that we have seen- some charge $10+ as a processing fee, or even 10% of the product’s price.

All weight loss pills shipped by Lipozene come with a 30-day money back guarantee less $1.35 processing fee. Customers have 30 days to return Lipozene for a refund. Return authorization numbers must be received from Customer Serice and written on the shipping box.

Where Can I Buy Lipozene?
Lipozene can be purchased from the official Lipozene website. For $29.95, consumers will receive two bottles of Lipozene, on a buy one get one free offer, plus a ‘free’ gift of a bottle of MetaboUP Plus, a thermogenic, metabolism boosting supplement. Delivery is free from the official website.
Before you buy from Lipozene, you have to enter your bank details and it is not made clear whether this is a “one off” purchase or a regular auto bill, auto ship program. There have been a number of consumer complaints about this. Many customers report that they have received unwanted packages each month and have experienced problems in cancelling the auto bill agreement. We were unable to find any indication that there was an auto-ship program in the Lipozene Terms and Conditions.
The product is also available from numerous third party retailers. From amazon, a single bottle, containing 30 capsules, costs $9.43 plus $4.99 shipping, or $14.43 with free shipping. Prices appear to change regularly, but only very slightly, as there are several third party stockists that sell through amazon, who are in constant competition with each other.
Lipozene is also available on the Walmart website and in selected Walmart stores. They offer a two-bottle ‘bonus pack’, which contains a total of 60 capsules for $19.88 plus shipping charges.
