You can use it as a standalone product or combine it with Lipozene, a supplement on sale from the same company. Beware, many customers have signed up for auto billing by mistake and have found it hard to cancel the agreement.
We take an in depth look at MetaboUP Plus to find out more.
MetaboUP Plus is a supplement that contains energy-boosting ingredients! However, there are very few stimulants apart from caffeine and the supplement contains just over the equivalent of a cup of coffee per serving.
MetaboUP Plus looks fairly gentle compared to most fat burners. Ingredients include green tea and oolong tea, cayenne, but also a plant extract called Platycodon Grandiflorum, which is fairly unknown.
Green tea is high in antioxidant polyphenols and because it undergoes minimal oxidation during processing, it retains many of its natural antioxidants. Oolong tea is partially fermented so can be considered somewhere between green and black tea. Tea is high in antioxidants and some evidence suggests that it is effective for weight loss because it can increase the speed of the metabolism.
Additional caffeine is provided by Kola seed nut and Guarana as well as caffeine in pure form. There are also some B vitamins in the mix.
There is some evidence that when Guarana (or caffeine) is combined with green tea it can cause fat burning that is more effective than use of either ingredient alone and this green tea/ caffeine combo is a popular diet pill formula.
Platycodon Grandiflorum is more unusual. This is a species of herbaceous flowering plant, which is native to Asia. The root is used in Asian medicine for a variety of purposes and laboratory testing has suggested it may play a role in reducing cholesterol and improving insulin resistance. However this theory has not been tested out on humans and there are questions about safety.
The final ingredient is cayenne, believed to be a natural metabolism booster thanks to the capsaicoinds – chemicals in the pepper that give the fiery flavour. Some evidence suggests that cayenne can increase the speed of the metabolism.
MetaboUP Plus is marketed by the Obesity Research Institute LLC a Los Angeles based company.
Their best-known supplement is Lipozene, which is advertised on US TV as a weight loss supplement. Lipozene is a Glucomannan/ Konjac root supplement -a fibre that fills your stomach and causes feelings of satiety.
We covered Lipozene in a previous review.
Despite the impressive sounding name, the Obesity Research Institute LLC is not actually a research institute but just a supplements company with a convincing name.
Worryingly there has been a string of customer complaints about this company regarding auto ship payments, failure to honour the advertised guarantee and more.
Take two tablets once daily with at least 8 oz. of water.
According to the product information:
The best time to take MetaboUp PLUS is when you need to get a boost of energy including in the morning, after lunch, prior to exercise, when playing sports, and action-packed weekends. Do remember that MetaboUp PLUS contains natural forms of caffeine and everyone’s tolerance for caffeine is different. To find out how MetaboUp PLUS works best for you, start out with a half dose and adjust accordingly.
According to the MetaboUp Plus advertising, there are three key points:
The “proprietary blend of clinically proven fat burning ingredients helps your body transform more food into energy. Which means less food will turn into fat.”
Although this sounds good and each ingredient comes with some information, there are no links to any clinical evidence. Are the ingredients really “clinically proven?”
There are no details about this.
According to the product information,
MetaboUP PLUS is also a great complement to Lipozene. MetaboUp PLUS helps to speed up your metabolism while Lipozene works to make you feel full faster when taken prior to meals.
MetaboUP Plus is a fat burner.
Each serving is equal to two capsules. The formula is under a proprietary blend so we cannot provide a full ingredients breakdown.
Proprietary Blend (952mg):
Many of the ingredients contain caffeine yet according to the product information, this supplement only contains just over a regular cup of coffee, so there seems to be little point. However, the green tea/ caffeine combination is good and it may help support your weight loss efforts.
There seems to be little point to Platycodon Grandiflorum either.
This plant extract lacks clinical testing and there are no guarantees as to whether it will work or is even safe. In addition, according to the product information, the amounts contained here are insufficient.
MetaboUP Plus may cause side effects. If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may notice affects such as:
There is very little clinical testing to assess Platycodon Grandiflorum. It may be safe but it has not been tested.
MetaboUp Plus comes with the following warnings.
DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT OR NURSING, KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Consult a health care professional before using this product if you have, or have a family history of heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression or any other psychiatric condition, seizure disorder or if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter drug(s).
Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Discontinue use and consult a medical doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms.
Lipozene looks and feels that it works. One customer reported:
This really works gives me energy and even when I binge on junk for the weekend I don’t gain as much weight as I usually would so my metabolism is speeding up I also use this product with Lipozene which makes the results more effective.
Some customers reported enhanced energy when used alone:
keeps you moving and full of energy it’s better than taking those energy drinks and also drinking a bunch of coffee if you need that extra boost something that will last all day this is one of a kind
Not everyone is as pleased. Some customers have found the MetaboUP/ Lipozene combo ineffective:
Took in conjunction with Lipozene. Didn’t lose anything, really didn’t give me energy
Others have found MetaboUP Plus just ineffective when taken alone:
Does nothing at all that I can see. No extra energy, no extra weight loss, NOTHING! Save your $$
The good news is that nobody has reported side effects.
Some customers obviously believe that it does work but in truth, the evidence is not compelling.
The combination of green tea and caffeine can help weight loss but apart from that, there is nothing here that will really work in the way as described.
You may get a slight energy buzz – similar to a cup of coffee. Green tea is known to increase the metabolism so overall it might offer some support but it is likely to be minimal.
MetaboUP Plus is available in the shops such as Wal-Mart. You can also buy it online, including direct from the product website. This supplement is advertised on TV and via the internet so is well known to US customers.
If you buy from the product website, you have to enter your details and credit card number before you can see the price. You also have to agree to a long list of terms and agreements.
Once you have done that, the company offer to send you 2 months supply (2 bottles of 60 capsules) for $35.98. They will automatically charge your card.
BEWARE. This is an Auto Refill Programme. The information states:
So in 60 days, unless you call to cancel, we’ll automatically send you a fresh supply every 60 days, and will charge the card you are using today for $19.99 each month.
Later on in the product information, this price rises to $35.98.
Beware if you buy from the Obesity Research Institute LLC.
This is what happened to one customer
I called after a commercial on TV for a $29.99 for 30 day trial of Lipozene and was asked for my credit card number.
Then there is a barrage of self renewing orders, additional products with self renewing orders, all charged to my credit card, offers of free Wal-Mart, Target cards, followed by buyers club memberships, magazine subscriptions all at a self renewing monthly costs all to be charged to the credit card I have already given….
Although the company provide a phone number for cancellations, many Lipozene customers have complained that it is hard to get through and cancel the order. As a result, there have been a lot of complaints by people unwittingly caught up in an auto billing cycle.
An easier option is to buy direct from Amazon.
1 bottle of 60 capsules (1 month’s supply) costs $19.95.
UK customers can buy direct from Amazon UK for £39.77.
There is a 30-day guarantee offered. The information states:
Customers have a total of 30 days from the date of purchase to return product for a refund. Return authorization numbers must be received from Customer Service and written on the shipping box containing the product.
Please contact Customer Service with any questions by phoning 1-888-220-8907.
Note: The above mentioned Return Policy applies to Internet and TV purchases directly from Obesity Research Institute, LLC, only
Obesity Research Institute run the same offer for Lipozene and many customers have been dissatisfied.
One customer reported:
I took the product and it made me sick. I tried over and over again to return the product. When I finally reached Lipozene customer service how convenient! My 30days were passed and now I’m stuck with $153.00 worth of pills that make me sick
Other customers have had the same problem.
MetaboUP Plus is not exactly a scam but it comes a pretty close according to many customers.
We went through the check out process ourselves and yes, there was the tiny print notice about auto billing. This does not feature in the terms and agreements and unless you are on your guard, it is very easy to miss. The fact that Lipozene and MetaboUp Plus are advertised on TV makes the Obesity Research Institute LLC look like a genuine company but the truth is that you could easily be caught in a difficult payment cycle that will not be easy to cancel.
MetaboUP Plus is not a very impressive looking supplement. It is OK – it contains green tea and caffeine but most of the ingredients seem superfluous and there is a lack of safety information about Platycodon Grandiflorum.
The advertising for this supplement is misleading. This diet pill is not clinically proven to work. At best, you may notice a slight energy buzz but it certainly is not the answer to obesity as described by the advertising.
This is an easy decision. MetaboUp Plus is not good enough to add to our approved list and in our opinion the Obesity Research Institute LLC are sailing very close to the wind with regards their customer service. Many people feel they have been scammed and in our opinion that is just not good enough. It is an easy decision.
We reject MetaboUP Plus.
