But, can a one-ingredient diet pill be effective? Below we take an in-depth look at My Vitamins Total CLA to see how useful it really is.
Total CLA is a CLA supplement manufactured by My Vitamins. The company can be contacted using the information provided on their official website.
As a food supplement we recommend consuming 2 softgels, one to three times per day. Best taken with food. Do not exceed recommended daily dose.
The manufacturers make no specific weight loss claims about My Vitamins Total CLA. Their description of the product is provided below:
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is a fatty acid found naturally in meat and dairy products, and is largely recognised for its role in weight management and body composition.Total CLA is a premium quality supplement derived naturally from Safflowers, providing a massive 2000mg of actual CLA per serving. CLA is made up of Cis9 (Trans11 isomer), Trans10 (Cis12 isomer) and total active isomers. These easy to use softgels provide a great way of getting extra CLA in to your diet in order to support a healthy diet. To be taken as part of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
My Vitamins Total CLA is just a CLA supplement; there are no other active ingredients used in this weight loss product. A serving of two capsules contains 2000 mg of CLA (80%). Customers are instructed to take up to three servings of two capsules per day, as required.
Whilst CLA has shown positive results in studies in rats and mice, aiding significant weight loss and acting as a fat burner, the clinical results in humans are much more varied. Some human clinical trials showed significant fat loss, improved body composition and even increases in muscle mass. However, other studies found no results or changes at all.
One review paper that pooled the results of 18 studies of CLA found that, on average, CLA caused ‘modest’ fat loss. Other reviews describe it as a relatively poor and unreliable fat burner. Because it is a single ingredient supplement that is not stimulant-based, My Vitamin Total CLA can be stacked with other products, and can be taken in the evening.
There are some potential side effects associated with the use of CLA. It can cause stomach upset, diarrhoea, nausea and fatigue.
Not suitable for those under the age of 18.
Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Not suitable for diabetics. Stop use at least two weeks before surgery, and consult your doctor before resuming use after surgery.
The softgel casing is made of gelatin, and so this product is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
Below are some of the reviews that customers have left for My Vitamins Total CLA. Customers who leave a product review on the My Vitamins website are entered into a draw to win a £100 voucher for the company, which may help to explain the significant number of reviews.
I was recommended to take this fatty acid some time ago and I have been taking it on and off for a few years. I find it to be helpful and it is useful as a preventative measure. I find the My Vitamins supplement good quality and good value.
I have been taking for about 3-4 weeks now and YES I can notice change in ways of toning especially in my arms and this has even been noticed amongst my work colleges however… I have been a lot more bloated and my stomach has increased not with fat but a similar effect to a lactose intolerance, blown u belly however I am and will keep taking them as my plan is 3 months and then move onto just macro nutrients and pre workouts so hopefully when I stop taking them in two months’ time I will notice it on my stomach a bit more. As with anything they will only work with a clean diet and good exercising. But I can say I can notice the difference within 3 weeks of use so up from here I hope!
These are a great product, really help with leaning down and toning. Would highly recommend them and will continue buying them. They are great value for money also, you won’t find these cheaper anywhere else.
Bought these as I am dieting and have an under active thyroid, thinking they may help. Unfortunately just one tablet made my heart race and gave me terrible indigestion to I haven’t dared take anymore. . I felt very odd after these so be careful.
The customer reviews for Total CLA are overwhelmingly positive, with only three of the 28 reviewers giving a review of three stars or less. Whilst customers are not reporting huge weight loss, they are noticing differences in their body composition when combined with diet and exercise. Some side effects have been reported but generally these are not serious.
CLA does appear to have some effect upon the body, somewhat reducing fat mass and aiding muscle growth in consumers who are exercising regularly in order to build muscle. It may not result in weight loss overall, but as it may aid muscle growth, it could therefore indirectly boost the body’s metabolic rate. There is also the worry that it is an unreliable or unpredictable supplement. Studies report vastly different effects upon the body.
My Vitamins Total CLA can be purchased from the My Vitamins webstore. There are two bottle sizes, A smaller bottle containing 60 capsules, and a larger bottle, containing 120 capsules. Depending upon daily usage, according to the directions for use, the smaller bottle will last between 10 and 30 days of continuous use, whilst the larger bottle will provide enough soft gels for between 20 and 60 days of use. The smaller bottle, containing 60 capsules, costs £6.99 plus delivery charges. The larger bottle, containing 120 capsules, costs £8.99 plus delivery charges. The larger bottle offers much better value for money.
My Vitamins occasionally offer deals on their products. At the time of writing this article, they were offering buy one get one free on all vitamins, provided that customers entered the code (BOGOF) at the checkout. It is unclear how long these offers last for, or how often they are offered.
The manufacturers do not offer a money-back guarantee. Their returns policy covers unopened products returns within 14 days of delivery.
Overall, it seems that CLA is not really a product suitable for people who are looking to lose a lot of fat mass. It may work best for consumers who are going to the gym regularly and following a workout regime designed to maximise muscle gains, as it appears to help to increase muscle gains. Overall, clinical trials suggest that this ingredient is not very good at aiding overall weight loss, but that it may improve body composition.
The hugely varying dosage recommendations of between two and six capsules per day means that the product may be excellent value for money if a lower dose if effective, but poorer value for money if you find you need a high dose to see any results. The larger bottle is good value for money, especially in comparison to the smaller sized bottle of 60 capsules.
Overall, we are not hugely impressed by My Vitamins Total CLA. The product is not hugely effective, and needs to be taken in large doses just for a small effect. The product can be stacked with other weight loss aids. In general, CLA supplements such as My Vitamins Total CLAare not going to provide significant results, especially for someone who is looking to lose a large amount of weight. Whilst CLA could play a small role in a larger weight loss system, we do not recommend My Vitamins Total CLAto our readers.
