Nudey Tea state that their,
Intensive 14 day detox will assist you with your healthy eating and fitness plan to lose weight, speed up your metabolism whilst cleansing and detoxifying your digestive system. Feel rejuvenated and energised from the inside out. A great start to a new you!
They describe the daytime tea as follows:
A delicious, healthy and revitalizing blend of premium Chinese oolong tea and carefully selected botanicals designed to cleanse the system. Oolong is thought to boost metabolism and is particularly prized as an aid to weight loss. Ginger and Cardamom are traditionally used to aid digestion. Milk Thistle and iron-rich Nettle are used to boost the body’s ability to cleanse the liver and the blood. Orange peel and lemongrass add a refreshing citrus twist.
The night time tea, taken every other night, has the following description:
This rooibos-based blend is designed to cleanse and relax you as well as to taste wonderfully sweet and comforting! Rooibos is an immensely popular, naturally-caffeine-free alternative to tea which is packed full of vitamins and can be taken with milk. We have added a sprinkling of chamomile and passionflower to help you nod off. Senna, aniseed and fenugreek are all reputed to assist your body in flushing away toxins. Relax and let the tea work its magic while you sleep!
Nudey Tea’s 14 day detox comes with two types of tea, a daytime detox tea, and a night-time detox tea. The day time detox tea should be drunk daily, whilst the night-time detox tea should be drank every other evening. The ingredients for each tea are given below. The strength of the product depends upon how long each tea is brewed for before drinking.
Day Time Detox Tea
Night Time Detox Tea
The daytime tea contains caffeine and catechins from oolong tea; the exact doses vary in beverages brewed with tea far more than in a capsule, which is far easier to control. However, the oolong tea may provide a slight increase in the number of calories burnt by the body per day.
Ginger may act as a mild appetite suppressant, although it is still relatively untested. Both teas contain diuretics, which will help to treat bloating and water retention. Consumers should remember that often water retention is caused by not drinking enough water throughout the day, and so drinking more water will allow the body to work more effectively, as well as to reduce bloating.
Drinking plenty of water will also help to prevent dehydration which could be caused by the diuretic ingredients such as aniseed, nettle and caffeine.
The night time tea contains senna in small quantities. Used every other night, it should provide a slight laxative effect, but not be too strong compared to other detox products that use numerous laxative ingredients. The night time tea is also caffeine-free, and contains chamomile and passionflower. Both these ingredients are mild sedatives, as well as promoting relaxation in the body and treating anxiety and insomnia.
Fenugreek seems to slow the absorption of sugars in the stomach and intestines, and so may delay hunger in the evening and night. Numerous ingredients are designed to treat gas and stomach upsets, reduce bloating and reduce digestive problems.
Unlike many other detox supplement manufacturers, Nudey Tea has been very upfront about the potential side effects that could occur from using their detox teas.
Our products are completely natural with pure ingredients. The only side-effects that may come from the tea are those associated with the laxative effect from the Senna leaf found in the bedtime detox. The associated side effects can include cramping and an increased frequency of visiting the bathroom but should NOT include diarrhoea, vomiting, dizziness or severe cramping – if any of these side-effects occur (depending on their intensity) adjust the strength of the Bedtime detox tea bags by soaking the tea bag for less time than usual (around 30 seconds) or cease the use of the tea and consider consulting your GP. The latter are not usual reactions and could indicate an allergy to one of the ingredients in the tea.
The daytime detox, everyday wellness and active tea are all generally side effect free, however all people react differently to different ingredients so we would recommend that you have a look at the ingredients listed on the product pages before ordering.
Below we have gone through some of the potential side effects in more detail, by ingredient.
Senna is a laxative; laxative ingredients should not be used in the long term because their regular use can lead to dependency as the muscles in the colon can become weakened over time. The use of senna and other laxatives can also interfere with the absorption of the contraceptive pill, and so consumers using this product should time the use of the pill appropriately. Senna should cause an increase in bowel movements. When used in excessive doses it can cause diarrhoea, or if used when dehydrated or when consuming inadequate quantities of water, it can conversely cause constipation. Stomach cramps are also possible.
The caffeine found in the oolong tea used in Nudey Tea’s Daytime teabags can cause headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia. Consumers should monitor the amount of caffeine consumed from other sources whilst using this product.
There are also several diuretics used in both teas in the detox pack. Diuretics such as caffeine, aniseed, and nettle can cause dehydration unless the consumer is drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Dehydration can lead to feeling lightheaded, dizzy and even fainting, whilst severe dehydration can lead to much more severe side effects.
Although side effects from consuming ginger are rare, it can cause heartburn, diarrhoea, and general stomach discomfort.
The manufacturers of Nudey Tea provide the following guidelines and cautionary warning for their Detox Teas.
Please talk to your doctor if you have any medical conditions or are taking any medication before starting a detox program.
Our products are designed to be used as a supplement and not to replace a balanced diet.
The detox products and in particular the senna leaf found in the bedtime detox may produce a laxative effect and can be toxic in high doses. Strictly follow our specific guidelines enclosed with your pack unless otherwise recommended by your healthcare professional.
We DO NOT recommend our detox teas for under 12 year old’s or people taking contraceptive medication (only the bedtime detox can affect your pill if taken on a morning within 4 hours of the laxative effect. If you take your pill on an evening you will be absolutely fine).
Our detox teas are not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women however our active and wellness teas can be used.
Always consult your doctor if you have any concerns.
Customer reviews for Nudey Tea can be found on Instagram and on a few blogs where the writers themselves have tried Nudey Tea. The below review was located in an article warning potential customers of detox teas how the laxatives in the product could interfere with the absorption of the pill. The blogger stated that whilst she had loved the product, finding out this information meant that she would not be using detox teas again.
I found both teas to be delicious in flavour and easy to drink – I live in England, so tea drinking is kinda our thing. After two weeks I had lost 3 inches on my waist and had noticed a definite decrease in bloating on my stomach. I was hooked.
Another blogger, who received a free packet of the detox teas in exchange for a review, noted the following:
Honestly, I can’t give a full review on this tea because of my terrible eating habits while I was taking it. However I can say these great things about it.
- I didn’t feel bloated while drinking the tea.
- I do feel that the tea helped me not put on extra “water/bloat” wait during the holiday’s.
- The tea (both of them) smelled amazeballs and taste great too sans any extra sweeteners.
- I didn’t experience any “laxative” effects from the tea even though I thought I would being that my eating sucked.
- Overall, I would try the tea again when I am eating healthy to see true results.
- I would recommend giving it a go.
Nudey Tea also regularly post success stories from customers on their Instagram page, including before and after pictures.
Nudey Tea claims to fulfil a number of different purposes, including reducing bloating, aiding weight loss, boosting the metabolism, detoxing the body, assisting sleep and boosting energy levels during the day.
Whilst we do not believe that this short term use product especially helps with weight loss, and its effects upon the metabolism are likely to be minimal, it does seem that the product works as a very mild laxative, does improve energy levels, and may aid sleep.
Most notably, it does appear to reduce bloating significantly, with some consumers mentioning that they lost several inches from around their stomach or that their clothes now fit better. In general, customer reviews on blogs and Instagram have not focused upon how much weight they have lost, most likely because it is not a significant amount.
It is also unclear how long the beneficial effects of the two teas remain after the detox teas are no longer being consumed.
Nudey Tea is exclusively available from the official Nudey Tea website. The company is based in the UK, but does ship internationally.
The 14-day detox package, featuring both the daytime tea and the bedtime tea, costs £18.99 plus delivery charges. A 28-day detox, which contains 28 daytime teabags and 14 bedtime teabags, costs £32.99 plus shipping.
There is no money-back guarantee offered by Nudey Tea. The company accepted returns of unopened and sealed products that can be resold by the company for up to 30 days from the date of delivery. Full terms and conditions are laid out on the Nudey Tea website.
Products that arrive damaged or incorrect can be returned or exchanged; the consumer should contact the company immediately to discuss their options in cases such as this.
The company note:
Please contact Nudeytea via the contact us tab for information about returning items to us. All returned items must be sent to Nudeytea, 52 Highwood Avenue, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS17 6ES, UK
Overall, we would not regard Nudey Tea’s detox pack to be a weight loss product. It does reduce bloating and water retention, and so could give the appearance of weight loss, especially around the stomach, but in general it will not cause weight loss.
The product should not be used in the long term, and so the metabolism boosting oolong tea and appetite suppressing ginger will have little opportunity to affect the consumer’s rate of weight loss. Even if the product could be used in the long term, we believe that these two ingredients alone would not have a significant impact upon the consumer’s weight, especially compared to more concentrated and stronger diet pills, of which there are many.
The manufacturers do not offer a money-back guarantee, and the product is arguably expensive for a tea because of its classification as a detox product, which always seems to raise the price significantly. Overall though, the product is priced similarly to other detox teas that we have reviewed in the past.
The company provides little information about themselves, with no phone number or email address available to contact the company. A contact form is however provided on the official website.
This product could be a good detox tea to minimise bloating and water retention, if this is a problem regularly noted by the consumer. However, these are both problems that could also be dealt with by changing dietary habits and drinking more water regularly.
Overall, the product cannot be considered a weight loss supplement, and so we cannot recommend it to our readers for this purpose.
