Olly appears to be a supplements company based in the USA. The official website is cutesy and colourful with pictures of fruit, and of young women wearing pink and carrying clipboards. Contact details are not so easy to find, but the company has a presence on Facebook and Instagram and products are on sale from a choice of outlets in the USA.
Olly Slim Protein Powder is available in two flavours; Salt Caramel or Sweet Vanilla Maple, and maybe unsurprisingly, it does contain added salt and sugar so if you are looking for a healthy natural drink, you will not like this supplement! Confusingly, if you buy from the official Olly website it is called Slim Boost, whereas on Amazon it is marked Slim Protein Smoothie, but these are both the same supplement and the only differences are the names on the label and the label design. Each tub contains sufficient powder for 15 servings.
Olly Slim Protein Powder looks safe for most people to take. Potential side effects to protein powder include gas, bloating, mild stomach cramps, and upset stomach.
The Shake does contain bitter orange powder which may have a stimulant effect, but is unlikely to be in sufficient quantities to have much effect. That said, one customer did mention the Shake kept her awake after she drank it close to bedtime.
Olly Slim Protein Powder is expensive. Buy from the official Olly website where it is called Slim Boost, it costs $27.99 for a tub of 15 servings.
You can subscribe quarterly on the company’s auto-ship option and buy 3 x tubs for $71.73. Olly only ship within the USA. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii takes around 6 weeks.
You can also buy Olly Slim Protein Powder via Amazon, where it costs anything between $54 and $28.00 for a tub of 15 servings.
There is nothing particularly slimming or healthy about OLLY Slim Protein Powder and if you add to your usual diet without cutting out a meal it will probably lead to weight gain. Each serving adds up to 180 calories (plus calorie content of milk or almond milk), which makes it quite a low calorie for a meal but extremely fattening as a drink. As a meal replacement, it may fall short for some users. It contains only 18g of protein per serving, although there is additional fibre so you may not feel it is satisfying enough to sustain you until the next meal.
Many customers have complained about the flavour and the texture and in our opinion, relying on this supplement to help you lose weight is not going to be easy and is veering into fad diet territory. The advertising states that the shake provides the equivalent vitamins of a normal healthy meal and in our opinion, you would be better off eating or making your own smoothies from the types of fresh fruits and vegetables, contained in this supplement.
In our opinion, this supplement is just not good enough to approve. We do not recommend OLLY Slim Protein Powder to the Watchdog readers.

OLLY Slim Protein Powder is a plant-based powder that you add to milk (or almond milk, or even water) in order to make a smoothie. There are two flavours available; Salt Caramel or Sweet Vanilla Maple, so we presume the idea is that you can drink this and feel healthy without having to go through the pain of actually having to drink something that tastes plant-based and good for you!
The Shake mix contains pea protein, cassava, and flaxseed, plus vitamins and minerals. According to the advertising, the vitamins and minerals are the equivalent of what you can expect in a normal healthy meal. There is some fibre too and the overall calorie content adds up to 180 calories per serving, although you will have to factor in the extra calories of your chosen liquid (unless it is water).
According to the product information this drink contains 5g of sugar per serving. The final component is blood orange extract, which the advertising states will help increase the speed of your metabolism. Check out the ingredients tab to find out more.
OLLY is a supplement company that is big on advertising and social media. The general tone of the website is fun and with the tagline “Happiness Inside Out”, the message is all about taking healthy supplements and shakes to improve health and inner wellbeing.
Other products include OLLY Gummies – vitamin supplements in the form of sweets, protein snack bars, and probiotic sticks – probiotic supplements in the form of quick melt sticks.
OLLY products are on sale direct from the official OLLY website. They are also on sale from retailers including Walgreens, Safeway, Stop & Shop, and Amazon.
According to the advertising,
“OLLY Slim Protein Powder is packed with powerful actives from a unique blood orange extract plus protein, fiber, and a whole meal’s worth of vitamins from organic fruits and veggies to help you stay fit.”
The protein powder contains Blood Orange Extract described as “a super food with active compounds to help you manage your weight and waistline”.
There is also reduced sugar: “All the deliciousness you crave with only 5g of sugar per serving. Sweet!”
The plant-based protein is a “blend of pea and flax protein that delivers essential amino acids, omega 3s and powerful phytonutrients”.
There is a whole food fibre blend, “5 grams of fiber from apple, cassava root and flax to help support healthy balanced digestion”.
The blend is “packed with vitamins sourced from 12 organic fruits and veggies”.
All this sounds great, but there is no explanation about how this supplement will help you lose weight.
There are a lot of filler ingredients in this supplement. The protein content adds up to 18g and the dietary fibre 5g, leaving over 20g made up of flavourings, carbs, salt, and sugars. None of this looks healthy or particularly satisfying.
According to the product information, Olly Slim Protein Powder contains 180 calories per serving, which will be increased when you factor in the milk (almond or dairy content) and with only 18g of protein, this shake may not feel particularly satisfying.
In our opinion, Olly Slim Protein Powder is not very slimming or healthy. If you add this drink to your daily regime, you will probably put on weight and not lose it.
Serving size is equal to 2 scoops. This adds up to 40.4g in total.
Protein Blend (Pea Protein, Golden Chlorella, Flax Seed) (18g):
The vitamin quantities are not provided but are between 10% and 25% of your recommended daily intake.
Side effects seem unlikely and customers have not mentioned any of these. However, it is important to check through the ingredients list before use if you have any allergies or reactions to certain foods.
Sometimes protein powders can cause mild gastric upsets such as:
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Speak to your doctor before use if you are taking prescription medication or have an underlying medical condition.
There are customer reviews for Olly Slim Protein Powder. We looked on Amazon where there are 94 reviews at the time of writing.
There are positive comments. Not all of them seem 100% genuine, but there are genuine customers nonetheless.
For me, the taste is AWESOME. I mixed it with Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk and ice. I don’t have to force anything down. I have tried other Olly flavors and this is by far the best. I am not big on chocolate flavor items but this is actually pretty good. I have a shake in the morning and one at lunch. It helps me feel full and has helped me lose a little weight. I have been using this for a few weeks.
I liked the taste even being vegetable protein, the cravings of mid-morning disappeared because it makes me feel satisfied.
There have been complaints about the flavour and texture. Some customers say it tastes like chalk!
Tastes like chalk. Tried a few times a few ways and have to toss it.
This is not good. It is gritty and gross. If you don’t drink it quickly, it separates, and you have a bunch of grit at the bottom of your glass. I do not recommend this product. I drink protein smoothies for breakfast and lunch every day, and I will not buy again.
I have been trying to find a good dairy free protein powder. I tolerated the vanilla Olly one, and this (salt caramel flavour) got decent reviews so I decided to try it out. I can’t use it. I have tried to cover up the nasty aftertaste and smell, and even peanut butter can’t do it. I’ll probably just pitch it, because I have to gag down the drink every time I make it. I wouldn’t recommend.
One customer felt it caused insomnia,
This product keeps me up, unable to sleep 6 hours. Don’t take it, if you have trouble sleeping.
There is no money-back guarantee on offer.
You can buy Olly Slim Protein Powder direct from the OLLY website. It is also on sale in some stores across the USA including Target and Walgreens, and it is also available from many online retailers including Amazon.
