Optimum Nutrition, or ON, is a well-known sports supplement brand aimed at athletes, gym goers, and bodybuilders. The company is based in Cheshire with a factory in Middlesbrough, but sell worldwide via a network of distributors. You can also buy directly from the official website.
Opti-Men is a multivitamin and mineral supplement aimed at men, although it contains nothing that is particularly suitable for men over women. It comes from sports nutrition company Optimum Nutrition, so you can trust that this British made supplement is good quality and safe.
However it is very expensive compared to similar products on the market and although the 90 capsule bottle seems good value, each serving is equal to three capsules. This means your bottle will last only a month and it requires you to take 3 capsules a day which will be inconvenient for many people, especially those who find the smell of the capsules unpleasant. A larger sized bottle of 180 capsules is also available.
ON Opti-Men looks pretty safe. However, some customers have reported side effects which include tingling sensation, skin rash, dizziness, stomach pains. Increase in stomach acid, nausea, allergic reaction, and darkened urine.
Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men is expensive especially when you compare to similar supplements on the market. We have seen comparable men’s health multivitamins for around £9.00 from stores such as Holland & Barrett, Boots, and more.
1 x bottle of 90 (1 month’s supply) capsules costs £17.99 if you buy directly from the Optimum Nutrition website, and the 180 capsule bottle (2 months’ supply) costs £25.99.
UK shipping for orders of under £30.00 is expensive and costs an additional £4.74 with Hermes or £6.52 for the 1-hour DPD Service.
You can also buy Opti-Men from other retailers such as Holland & Barrett where it is even more expensive. We saw the 90ct bottle (1 month’s supply) for a whopping £29.99. We have also seen it on Amazon for the cheaper price of £13.85 for 90 capsules and £22.95 for 180 capsules.
Optimum Nutrition is a well known British supplements company, so if you are a man already using their supplements, you might feel that the added support of their men’s vitamin and health supplement will be good for health support. And it might! In our opinion, Opti-Men looks OK. It has an extensive profile of vitamins, minerals, aminos, and antioxidants, and some customers have reported feeling better by using it, although as with all vitamin supplements, it is sometimes hard to notice much difference.
The downsides are that this supplement is very expensive compared to less flashy supplement brands and that the serving size is equal to 3 capsules. Many customers have not noticed this until they have bought and have then been dismayed by the low ingredients content of each capsule.
Overall we think there are better and cheaper alternatives on the market, so we do not recommend Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men to the Watchdog readers.

Although many men train and workout in the gym and take part in sport, their inner health is sometimes overlooked. This means that despite building muscle and looking strong, resistance to ailments such as man flu as well as more serious diseases, it iis not as good as it should be. And with training putting an extra strain on the body’s resources, resistance may be further weakened. With this in mind, Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men is a multivitamin supplement with added ingredients designed to strengthen the male immune system.
Omni Men is essentially a multivitamin and mineral supplement with some added healthy ingredients, including branched chain amino acids, amino acids, and herbal extracts such as green tea extract, ginger, and citrus fruit. It also contains Lycopene, a carotene present in red fruits such as tomatoes (tomatoes are technically a fruit!) that is known to help prostate health.
Optimum Nutrition is a fairly well known and well-respected name in the supplements industry. Based in Cheshire, the company manufactures their own supplements from their factory in Middlesbrough and sell via the website, as well as shops and stores throughout the UK. ON supplements are also on sale across the world via a network of retailers. You can contact the company by phone in the UK at 0345 688 5120 or via email.
We have covered Optimum Nutrition supplements in previous reviews including Thermo Cuts a weight loss supplement. Source
According to the product information,
“Optimum Nutrition’s Opti-Men is a premium multivitamin that provides over 39 active ingredients specifically designed to support the needs of active men.”
The key features:
It is suitable for athletes because,
“When you’re training hard, your body has greater nutritional needs. Vitamins and minerals provide a vital nutritional boost to help you cope with the demands of a fast-paced lifestyle.
Think of Opti-Men as potent nutritional insurance for your fitness lifestyle.”
Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men looks to be a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement, with some added advantages of amino acids and antioxidants. However, serving sizes of individual ingredients are low, so although side effects should not be an issue, you may not notice any real benefits either. Iron is not included in the supplement which we find surprising.
No one can say whether or not taking supplements really helps boost immunity or can be regarded as “nutritional insurance”, and a supplement does not replace a healthy diet. However, as an addition to a healthy diet, it certainly will not do you any harm.
Is there anything in this, which makes it specifically suitable for men? No! It does contain Lycopene which is important for prostate health, but in such tiny quantities, we cannot see it having much effect at all. If you eat tomatoes or foods containing cooked tomatoes including tomato paste, you will probably be ingesting enough. Otherwise, we just can’t see why this supplement is specifically targeted at men.
Serving size is equal to three capsules.
These are broken down as follows:
Other Ingredients: Croscarmellose Sodium (Disintegrant), Microcrystalline Cellulose, Stearic Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, Maltodextrin, and Pharmaceutical Glaze.
A couple of customers have mentioned side effects. These include:
Caution:
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Speak to your doctor if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking prescription medication.
We looked on Amazon UK as there are currently nearly 300 reviews posted. However, we did find that Amazon had previously removed around 90 reviews from this listing. Amazon is trying to clamp down on fake reviews, so this was probably for this reason.
We checked through genuine reviewers and found some positive comments. Many people are satisfied with this supplement.
This customer felt that the supplement supported his increased fitness levels,
This supplement has made a great difference to my over all wellbeing. Over the past 12 months I have increased my gym attendance the intensity of my sessions and the impact on my body and my mental wellbeing was very noticeable….I opted to add the Opti-men multivitamins to my routine. The difference was not instant but after a week and gradually going from 1 a day to 2 and then three a day it was evident that my alertness, recovery time and overall bodily functions were much improved.
Some customers like it but find the smell off-putting,
Only downside to these pills is the smell, pretty revolting. Luckily the bottle is open and shut in seconds!
This customer feels that his immune system is stronger,
Been on this stuff now for over a year and had no colds or flu’s since I’ve been taken them, could be a coincidence but for me these are a great supplement.
Other customers are less positive. This man felt it increased stomach acid,
It’s a good product. But marked it at 3 because I have stomach acid problems and these make it flair up a bit. It’s possibly just because of my medical conditions.
A few others mention side effects, such as these users,
Caused stomach pains. Stopped using it, the pain went away.
I developed an allergic reaction to these tablets 7 days after taking them…the rash was VERY painful
Many customers have been disappointed by the three capsules serving size,
I failed to read the fine-print, an obvious way of tricking people. The label on the back is for three tablets, not an individual tablet like almost every other Vitamin product does. They do this so people read it and think that it has more than your average, but in reality it’s skewing the numbers. By their logic, you have to swallow three of these things a day.
There is no money-back guarantee on offer for ON Opti-Men.
You can buy ON Opti-Men from a wide choice of outlets both online and in stores. These include direct from the Optimum Nutrition website, Amazon UK, and Holland & Barrett.
Customers outside the UK can buy online from distributors based in their country. However, Optimum Nutrition supplements do not seem to be directly available to customers in the USA.
