Phenadrine Thermo Cut Facts

  • Phenadrine Thermo Cut is made in South Africa by Biogen and is only available in South Africa from pharmacy chain Dis- Chem
  • Each bottle of Phenadrine Thermo Cut contains 30 capsules (up to 1 week’s supply)
  • The recommended serving is 12 capsules a day

Phenadrine Thermo Cut comes from South African supplements company Biogen. There are several companies that have similar sounding names, including the UK based Biogen Health Science, but there is no connection with Biogen and any other similarly named companies.

Phenadrine Thermo Cut contains 15 ingredients in total including green tea, Yerba Mate, caffeine and Evodia Rutaecarpa, which may help promote energy and fat burning. Other ingredients include plant extract Coleus Forskohlii – believed to have a direct effect upon the thyroid and Caralluma Fimbriata a fibre rich cactus extract that may help cause feelings of fullness and satiety.

There is an ingredient to reduce sugar cravings – Gymnema Sylvestra a natural leaf that is supposed to make the taste of sugar less appealing. In addition, the formula includes Turmeric, vitamin B3 and grapefruit extract Naringin.

There are 15 ingredients in total which is a lot and although most of these show up in other supplements, we have never seen this precise combination before.

The product information does not mention whether the formula has ever been tested and whether the combination will work together. Sometimes ingredients can interact with each other. Some of the ingredients are well known for side effects. This supplement lacks a full ingredients list and although there is a brief explanation provided about what the various components of this supplement are supposed to do, you are not provided with any details about its strength.

The serving size of each capsule is not provided, let alone any of the ingredients amounts.

How to Take Phenadrine Thermo Cut

Begin taking a lesser dosage of 1 – 2 caps twice a day, increasing this dosage gradually according to tolerance up to a maximum of 4 capsules, two to three times daily. i.e. 30-40 minutes before breakfast or morning workout, 30-40 minutes before lunch and 30-40 minutes before mid-afternoon meal or workout.

Do not use after 4 o’ clock in the afternoon due to the increased energy levels you might experience possibly disturbing sleep.

Take Thermo Cut for 5 consecutive days of the week and stop for 2 days before continuing again for maximum results

Biogen is a major South African supplements company with a wide product range. The Pro Range is aimed at weight loss and bodybuilding. The Platinum range is more general and includes supplements to promote general health, or specific issues such as aging, bone health, stress reduction and more.

Biogen Supplements are only available from Dis- Chem, one of the larger pharmacy retailers in South Africa and a familiar presence in the shopping malls to many consumers.

Phenadrine Thermo Cut Concerns:

  • The product warnings do not go far enough. Extremely dangerous lack of information
  • Why can we not see a full ingredients profile? What is really contained in this supplement?
  • The side effects. Especially the potential risk of this supplement causing birth defects

What Does Phenadrine Thermo Cut Claim To Do?

There are three key features to Phenadrine Thermo Cut:

  • Thermogenic Fat Burner
  • Increase energy and alertness
  • Appetite suppressant properties

It is,

An exciting new thermogenic fat metabolizing system designed to increase your fat burning potential, boost energy levels and improve performance.

In addition,

Thermo Cut is a step up in potency and has been enhanced with the latest in effective ‘fat burning’ herbs as well as key nutrients to improve absorption and efficacy of these ingredients.

This may sound good but there is no evidence to back up any of these claims. It is not stated whether this formula has ever been tested.

So What Is Phenadrine Thermo Cut and What Are The Ingredients?

Phenadrine Thermo Cut is a fat burner diet pill which the makers say will cut appetite cravings too. There is zero ingredients information so you will not know how strong this supplement is or what are the major ingredients. However, according to the product information serving size is equal to four capsules.

  • Coleus Forskohlii: Plant extract that has been shown to increase thyroid hormone production as well as stimulate thyroid hormone release. The thyroid is responsible for metabolic rate and therefore, increasing production of the thyroid results in an increase in metabolism. This sounds good but Coleus Forskohlii lacks evidence it will promote weight loss.

  • Naringin: This citrus flavanoid give grapefruit git its bitter flavour. Grapefruit juice has been shown to decrease the breakdown of caffeine and prolong its effects and impact on fat loss. However, there is no real evidence and Naringin will interact with medication in what is known as the grapefruit effect.
  • Green Tea: Green tea extract is well known for its ability to break down fat, as well as regulate blood sugar. It is also a powerful antioxidant, which will assist in neutralizing the damage caused by free radicals. (free radicals increase when you increase activity levels and restrict calorie intake)
  • Caffeine: This popular stimulant can cause thermogenesis, thus promoting an increase in fat reduction. It also acts to improve mental alertness and to delay the onset of fatigue. However, effects can be short lived as you become accustomed to use. Side effects are common at high levels. How much is contained here? We just don’t know.
  • Yerba Mate Leaf: Natural stimulant that aids with weight loss and is known for its appetite suppressant properties (reduces the time to perceived fullness). It is also a strong antioxidant and provides long lasting and tolerable energy. Yerba Mate contains caffeine and many of the effects are caused by this.
  • L-Tyrosine: This amino acid is obtainable through diet if you eat meat. It is believed to help training and is popular with body builders for this reason. Can increase adrenaline levels, heighten mental alertness and offset physical and mental fatigue. Also supports thyroid function (Thyroid controls metabolism)
  • Nicotinamide: Also known as Vitamin B3. Nicotinamide helps convert food into energy and is involved in protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism. It also aids in nervous system function. However, when taken over the recommended daily amount it causes unpleasant side effects such as flushing and skin irritation.
  • Gymnema Sylvestre: Plant extract that may help control blood sugar levels. Research into this herb is ongoing. When eating in natural form it appears to make sugary tastes less desirable so may help with food craving. The preliminary results have been positive but it requires further testing.
    Source:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12663610
  • Bacopa Monniera: According to the product information, this natural plant extract works as a brain tonic and there is some evidence that the chemicals it contains may increase certain chemicals (Choline) in the brain. It may help improve memory but it can cause side effects. No real relevance to weight loss.

  • Evodia Rutaecarpa 10% Evodiamine: This natural chemical found in an Asia plant Evodia Rutaecarpa may help increase serotonin levels. Some clinical testing on mice has indicated that Evodiamine can reduce fat deposits. It appears to act as a thermogenic but it lacks human clinical testing regarding weight loss. There is no proof that it works and it is dangerous to use if there is any chance you may be pregnant. In animals, it caused contractions of the uterus and reduced litter size.

  • Theobromine: Bitter alkaloid (natural plant chemical) of the cacao plant, and found in chocolate. It is a chemical relative of caffeine, and has a similar but lesser effect but is far longer acting due to it containing an extra methyl group. It is thought to promote weight loss and energy.
  • Barberry Bark: This contains a chemical called Berberine and may help stimulate digestive function and immune system. However, it can cause side effects. It reduces blood pressure and is dangerous to take while pregnant. It can cause brain damage and jaundice in new borns.
    Source:http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-433-european%20barberry.aspx?activeingredientid=433&activeingredientname=european%20barberry
  • Curcuma Longa: Better known as Turmeric, this spice is familiar to curry lovers. It is thought to have medicinal properties including it being a strong antioxidant, causing it to protect cells by fighting free radicals.
  • Bioperine: The chemical in black pepper and believed to increase bioavailability of the other nutrients in the formula through increased absorption.
  • Caralluma Fimbriata: This is a type of fibre rich cactus that may be a safe and effective supplement ingredient for use in appetite control. Although it looks promising, it requires further clinical evidence.

So What Does All This Mean?

Without any information about the ingredient quantities, it is impossible to predict what this supplement will do. For example if it contains a lot of caffeine, you may notice a jittery or energy boosting effect, depending on your own caffeine tolerance. There again if you habitually drink coffee, you may not even notice it.

Theobromine when taken in high quantities has the effect of widening blood vessels but as most of us consume this regularly in chocolate where it is present in low amounts, its safety and efficacy will depend upon the size of the dose.

One fact leaps out: you must not take Phenadrine Thermo Cut if there is any chance you may be pregnant because it may cause birth defects.

There are some good ingredients. Green tea, Yerba Mate and Caralluma for example may be effective for weight loss and do not seem to cause dangerous side effects, but overall there are no guarantees about the safety and effectiveness of this supplement.

Potential side effects may include:

  • Jitteriness
  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness

  • Lowered blood pressure

  • Risk of birth defects including brain damage and jaundice in new borns
  • Drug interactions

Caution:

As with all exercise and nutritional programs please consult your physician first.

Watchdog Verdict

We are very unimpressed with Biogen Phenadrine Thermo Cut. The lack of product information is shocking and if you use this supplement you really will have no idea just what you are taking. Take as advised at 3 x 4 capsule servings and your bottle of 30 capsules will only last a couple of days, so it is not even very good value either.

Although some of the ingredients like Green tea for example look reasonable, without knowing the ingredient quantities in each serving, you have no idea whether they are in sufficient quantities to work or whether they will cause side effects. This means your health could be at risk too. In addition there is no customer feedback to help you and no medical evidence to support the claims of the advertising.

Have these 15 ingredients ever been tested in combination? We doubt it. We are amazed that Biogen have not provided a health warning that warns against using this supplement with prescription medication; grapefruit is well known for interacting with just about everything, yet this important fact just isn’t mentioned.

We are extremely concerned that women may take this supplement without realising they are pregnant and as a result run the risk of causing birth defects. Another fact that just isn’t mentioned by the advertising.

Overall, we feel that Biogen Phenadrine Thermo Cut is certainly one to avoid therefore it is a very easy decision. We reject Phenadrine Thermo Cut.
