Primal Labs Smash-It!

Rating
Meal replacement shakes utilise one of the simplest and most direct approaches to weight loss – making it so that we eat less! By swapping out an entire meal in favour of a relatively low-calorie shake, dieters can lower their calorie intake and lose weight reliably, making these shakes amongst the most effective weight loss supplements out there. However, finding a meal replacement shake that is as tasty, filling and healthy is somewhat tricky, with so many good (and bad) products to choose from.

Below we take an in-depth look into Primal Labs Smash-It!, to see whether this meal replacement and antioxidant-rich shake is worth buying.

Primal Labs Smash-It! Pros

  • Unlikely to come with side effects
  • Contains dozens of ingredients that offer a strong antioxidant/digestive relief profile

Primal Labs Smash-It! Cons

  • Far too expensive and does not work as manufacturer promises
  • Many customers complain of being signed up to costly subscription services
  • Poor customer service and may not fulfil the money-back guarantee

What You Need To Know About Primal Labs Smash-It!

Primal Labs Smash-It! is a meal replacement shake that uses a noticeably long list of ingredients. Containing a liberal mix of protein, fibre, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and antioxidant-rich superfoods, this shake claims to help customers lose weight, whilst also improving their overall health and digestive health. Smash-It! is available in three flavours, and like many of the products promoted by this manufacturer, appears to be marketed primarily toward the elderly.

What Are The Side Effects Of Primal Labs Smash-It!?

Meal replacement shakes are not known for causing side effects. Customers that are not used to the high protein, probiotic and fibre content may experience mild cramping, diarrhoea, gas, and more frequent bathroom visits.

How Much Does Primal Labs Smash-It! Cost?

Smash-It! is an extraordinarily expensive product. On the official Primal Health website, one 30-serving tub of Smash-It! costs $74.95 ($134.90 for two). Customers choosing to sign up for the VIP auto-refill service can make a small saving, with each tub costing $67.46 when purchased in this way.

The majority of customers purchasing Smash-It! are directed to pick up a tub for the much lower price of $34.97 (plus $9.99 in shipping). However, many customers appear to be unaware that they are signing up for a subscription service, which will cost them around $75 per month until cancelled.

Our Verdict On Primal Labs Smash-It!

For a meal replacement shake, Smash-It! is remarkably complicated, packing in dozens upon dozens of ingredients that range from probiotics to amino acids. Unfortunately, the majority of this are little more than filler, with many ingredients supplied in far too low a dosage to really be useful. In a sense, this product can be seen as a good example of being a jack of all trades and a master of none.

As with any meal replacement shake, Smash-It! can help customers to lose weight when used correctly, but its many other advertised benefits are unlikely to come to fruition. Due to the lack of available customer reviews, it is also impossible to tell whether the taste of the shake is good (often the real dividing line between various meal replacement shakes like these).

To make matters worse, the price of Smash-It! is truly eye-watering. Primal Health seems to cover this up by misleading customers into signing up for expensive subscription services, resulting in many accidentally losing hundreds of dollars in fees. Primal Health’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) page is littered with horror stories of elderly customers losing out on significant sums of money, with many also reporting that the manufacturer’s customer service agents were indifferent or impossible to contact.

Although this product could prove useful for some customers, its high price point and shady business practices make it one to avoid.

Overall, we do not recommend Primal Labs Smash-It! to our readers.

Primal Labs Smash-It! Review

Primal Labs Smash-It! is a high-protein, nutrient-infused shake that promises to help customers lose weight whilst getting rid of troublesome “toxic” fat cells. Designed to be consumed once a day in lieu of a full meal, Smash-It! comes in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla-caramel flavour, and is supposedly sweetened using monk fruit.

Primal Labs Smash-It! Facts

  • Manufactured by Primal Health LP
  • Contains 780g or 1560g of powder per tub
  • Meal replacement shake with added protein, digestive enzymes, and antioxidants

Smash-It! is sold under the Primal Labs label, a brand operated and owned by Texan supplement manufacturer Primal Health LP. Primal Health sells various health supplements targeting a range of interesting areas, including cardiovascular health, joint mobility, anti-wrinkling, weight loss, and more. The company appears to favour a business model that involves subscription services and auto-shipping, a policy which has attracted significant criticism and complaints from former customers. Chatter on Primal Health’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) page paints a picture of a company that ships and bills for products without customers even being aware of what’s happening, whilst also providing few opportunities for refunds. This has resulted in dozens of customers reporting losses of hundreds of dollars, only to be faced with customer service agents that are reportedly indifferent at best. For those interested, the company can be contacted by email ([email protected]) and telephone (877-300-7849).

How to Take Primal Labs Smash-It!

We were not able to find any directions for use listed on the Internet for this product. However, a single serving is described as two scoops (52g), which customers presumably mix with milk or water and consume in lieu of a meal.

Primal Labs Smash-It! Concerns:

  • Manufacturer has accrued a reputation for poor customer service and auto-shipping
  • Hugely expensive for what it is
  • Will not work any more effectively than any other meal replacement shake

What Does Primal Labs Smash-It! Claim To Do?

The product page advertising Smash-It! is lengthy in the extreme, reading like a text version of an infomercial. As such, summarising the many claims made about this relatively simple product is something of a challenge!

Smash-It! is primarily designed to work as a weight loss aid, designed to be taken in place of a meal. Its high protein and fibre content is said to help customers feel fuller for longer, whilst supercharging the body’s metabolism and energy levels. The fat loss action is also said to target “toxic” fat cells, which supposedly prevent many otherwise-normal dieters from losing weight effectively, and delivers a kind of weight loss that preserves lean muscle.

Smash-It! also contains a high quantity of antioxidants to help control the body’s supply of harmful free radicals, and its probiotic and digestive enzyme content also reportedly helps to ensure smooth digestion and a healthier immune system.

Does Primal Labs Smash-It! Work?

Despite the advertising hype, the mechanisms that make meal replacement shakes work are extremely simple to understand. Each serving of Smash-It! contains just 200 calories, and customers are invited to consume one in place of a meal. As a 200-calorie shake likely contains fewer calories, sugars, and fats than a normal meal, customers can enjoy positive weight loss results simply through the consumption of fewer calories.

That being said, most of the claims made about Smash-It! do not check out. The bizarre claims about “toxic” fat cells are just as baseless as you would think, and any claims that this drink provides energy or boosts metabolism are groundless. The probiotic content is on the weak side, so chances are that it will do little to aid the digestive system (especially when compared to specialist products). The antioxidant content can help to defeat the body’s supply of harmful free radicals as promised, but this does not often produce a clearly noticeable effect.

In short, this product could help customers to lose weight if used as any other meal replacement shake is, but the majority of its many, many ingredients are little more than harmless filler.

What Are The Ingredients of Primal Labs Smash-It!?

The ingredients found in Primal Labs Smash-It! are listed below. Unfortunately, some ingredient quantities are not disclosed, which can make it difficult for customers to estimate how effective the overall mix is. The quantities that are listed are correct for 2 scoops (52g) of powder.

  • Vitamin A (as retinyl palmitate) 1050IU) (21% DV)
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 31.5mg (53% DV)
  • Vitamin D (as cholecalciferol) 1600IU (400% DV)
  • Vitamin E (as d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) 5.8IU (19% DV)
  • Thiamin (as thiamine mononitrate 0.42mg (28% DV)
  • Riboflavin 0.45mg (26% DV)
  • Niacin (as niacinamide) 5.6mg (28% DV)
  • Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine hydrochloride) 0.6mg (30% DV)
  • Folate (folic acid) 233mcg (58% DV)
  • Vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin) 0.85mcg (14% DV)
  • Biotin 10.5mcg (4% DV)
  • Pantothenic acid (as D-Calcium pantothenate) 1.75mg (18% DV)
  • Calcium 200mg (20% DV)
  • Iron 6.3mg (35% DV)
  • Phosphorus 250mg (25% DV)
  • Iodine (as potassium iodide) 52mcg (35% DV)
  • Magnesium (as magnesium oxide) 145mg (36% DV)
  • Zinc (as zinc oxide) 3.8mg (25% DV)
  • Selenium (as sodium selenite) 19mcg (27% DV)
  • Copper (as copper gluconate) 0.3mg (15% DV)
  • Manganese (as manganese sulfate) 0.8mg (40% DV)
  • Molybdenum (as sodium molybdate) 15.8mcg (21% DV)
  • Sodium 300mg (13% DV)
  • Potassium 370mg (11% DV)
  • Chromium (as chromium chloride) 200mcg (167% DV): Out of all the vitamins and minerals included in this product, the most important one in terms of dosage and effects is chromium, which is used primarily to lower fasting blood sugar levels and to lower insulin levels in people who have type 2 diabetes. In terms of its potential effect upon weight loss, it is possible that taking chromium picolinate by mouth for 2 to 3 months might produce a small weight loss of about 1.1 kg. Obviously, this is an incredibly small amount of weight loss, but studies are still inconclusive. It also helps to reduce insulin resistance. Source

Quadsource Protein Blend 25g:

  • Whey Protein Concentrate, Pea Protein, Sodium Caseinate, Cranberry Seed Protein: Protein supplements work to provide the amino acid fuel that helps to build muscle tissue quicker and more efficiently, as well as reducing recovery time. This product uses a few unusual sources of protein (such as cranberry seed protein, or pea protein), although we imagine the bulk of the Quadsource Protein Blend is made up of whey protein concentrate (as it is relatively cheap). Whey protein contains BCCA amino acids and may causes feelings of satiety, as it appears to decrease the release hormones such as ghrelin, which signal hunger. Whey protein is high in fat and cholesterol compared to Whey Protein Isolate. Source
  • L-Leucine 1.5g: An essential branched chain amino acid which stimulates protein synthesis in the body, and is used as a building block for muscle. Whilst dieting, supplementing Leucine could help to maintain muscle mass whilst still losing fat mass, as it is used to help fuel muscle. Unlike the other BCAAs, Leucine is potent enough to be supplemented in isolation.

Fiber Blend 2.93g:

Oat Fibre, Xanthan Gum, Blue Agave Inulin: Foods that are very high in fibre (or fibre supplements) can be helpful when losing weight, as relatively less of its bulk is digested when compared to other food groups. It can also bind with other foods that have been consumed, making dieters feel fuller whilst consuming fewer calories. Source

Spectra Blend 100mg:

  • Green Coffee Bean Extract, Green Tea Leaf Extract, Broccoli Sprout Concentrate, Onion Bulb Extract, Apple Skin Extract, Acerola Fruit Extract, Camu Camu Fruit Concentrate, Quercetin, Tomato Fruit Concentrate, Broccoli Floret and Stem Concentrate, Acai (Euterpe oleracea) Fruit Concentrate, Turmeric Root Extract, Garlic Clove Concentrate, Basil Leaf Concentrate, Oregano Leaf Concentrate, Cinnamon Branch and Stem Bark Concentrate, Carrot Root Concentrate, Elderberry Fruit Concentrate, Mangosteen Fruit Concentrate, Black Currant Fruit Extract, Blueberry Fruit Extract, Sweet Cherry Fruit Concentrate, Chokeberry Fruit Concentrate, Blackberry Fruit Concentrate, Raspberry Fruit Concentrate, Spinach Leaf Concentrate, Kale Leaf Concentrate, Bilberry Fruit Extract, Brussel Sprout Concentrate: Spectra is advertised as a full-spectrum antioxidant activity product. A single clinical study suggests that supplementation of Spectra Total Orac may help to “stimulate antioxidant activity and boost nitric oxide production in the human body”. Source

Enzyme Blend 50mg:

  • Amyloglucosidase, Lactase, Lipase, Protease, Amylase, Cellulase, Hemicellulase, Papain: In a general sense, digestive enzymes can help to break down sugars, fats and amino acids, although supplementation is not thought to be hugely necessary or useful (as the majority are already produced naturally in the body). The most commonly supplemented digestive enzyme, Papain, is usually used to reduce inflammation and fluid retention. Source

Probiotic Blend (5 Billion CFU) 62.5mg

  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus: L. rhamnosus is thought to be an effective probiotic for preventing diarrhoea in both adults and children, and this strain is thought to be effective against pathogens. The patent-owner of the LB3 strain also claims that it has an anti-mutagenic effect. Source
  • Bifidobacterium bifidium: B. bifidum has been linked with a range if beneficial effects, most prominently in the immune and digestive systems. It appears to have a range of miscellaneous benefits as well, including an ability to improve alcohol-damaged-liver injury and to treat diarrhoea. Source
  • Bifidobacterium longum: This strain strongly inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, thus reducing the incidence of constipation, inflammatory bowel conditions, and high cholesterol levels. Source
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus: The most commonly used probiotic in supplements, L. acidophilus creates an unfriendly environment for “bad” bacteria when it breaks down. Supplementing is often thought to be an all-purpose way of restoring the healthy balance of bacteria in the gut. Source
  • Lactobacillus casei: Various studies have shown that L. casei is effective at helping to relieve gastrointestinal issues, and has also been known to positively impact problems like obesity and arthritis. Source
  • Streptococcus thermophilus: This strain can help to preserve colon health and can generally boost the immune system. As this probiotic breaks down lactose, it could be used as a way to help lactose-intolerant users process dairy products. Source

Other Ingredients:

  • Coconut oil, cocoa powder, natural flavors, salt, sunflower lecithin, monk fruit extract, tricalcium phosphate, sillica, and iron amino acid chelate.

Does Primal Labs Smash-It! Have Any Side Effects?

The chances of experiencing any side effect (other than hunger) whilst using this product is very low, although there could be some very minor adjustments if you your body is not used to consuming protein/fibre.

When taken sensibly, protein powders shouldn’t come with too many side effects. However, minor issues can arise for some (especially if customers take more than is recommended). Higher doses of whey protein may cause increased bowel movements, thirst, bloating, cramps, nausea, reduced appetite, and fatigue. If consumed without engaging in sufficient levels of exercise, protein powders may also cause weight gain or lead to weaker bones.

Probiotic supplements are not often associated with particularly overbearing side effects. In some cases, some customers may experience diarrhoea, gas, bloating, and stomach upset for the first couple of days after use. Miscellaneous allergic reactions are also possible in very rare cases. Avoid taking supplements like these if you suffer with serious health problems or suffer with immune system problems.

Fibre supplements are also not associated with side effects, but dramatically raising your fibre intake may cause mild cramping, diarrhoea, and gas for the first few days.

Caution:
Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. If you are taking any medications or are unsure about the suitability of this supplement for you, consult your doctor before purchase.

Are There Any Customer Reviews For Primal Labs Smash-It!?

We have not been able to find any customer reviews discussing Primal Labs Smash-It! directly online. However, we were able to find a large number of customers expressing disappointment with the business practices of Primal Health in general. The various self-help books sold by Primal Health appear to attract a special kind of ire, trapping elderly customers in confusing websites that end up inadvertently signing customers up to subscription services without their knowledge. Many customers appear to have lost hundreds of collars to Primal Health, and are rewarded with little more than unimpressive products and a daily hounding over email/telephone to buy more.

From personal experience I would classify this business as a scam at best…. they added two large drug orders to my bill without my approval!…BE VERY CAREFUL IN ORDERING ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!! Check for added charges to your bill!

This is a complete HOAX! I cannot believe SCAMS like this are still out there and allowed to take money from unassuming and innocent people. My elderly father bought from them and upon realising it is nothing but a pathetic and non-scientific book, he requested a refund as per their “60 day no questions asked refund policy” however, they NEVER respond to emails, NEVER pick up calls – they are not a real and legitimate business in any way, shape or form. Prior to ordering when my father had questions, they answered the next working day keen to get him to purchase the book however, now we want a refund, NO response whatsoever.

Don’t order from this company!!! They are dishonest and not reputable!!!

really nasty employees. This organization is not too far from being a real scam with the only aim to exploit customers. My experience is really negative, in terms of customer help, and of the effectiveness of the product.

This business is a SCAM. The website is as close to entrapment as I have ever seen, once you think you are buying a book for $27, you cannot escape the website until you have been locked in for nearly 30-40 minutes with “But WAIT, there’s MORE” relentless banter, requiring more money from you before you can move onto the next screen, trying to escape to exit the website. I had to call a customer service rep to get me out of the website and cancel the “orders” I had placed trying to move to the exit screen

Does Primal Labs Smash-It! Offer a Money-Back Guarantee?

Primal Labs claim to have a 60-day money-back guarantee. Customers are invited to return the unused portion of their tub of Smash-It! within 60 days (or even return the empty canister) and they will receive a full refund of everything minus shipping and handling. This seems like a great offer, although readers must bear in mind that many former customers have complained of the difficulty of receiving a refund from Primal Health due to the difficulty contacting them or asking them to comply with their own terms.

Where Can I Buy Primal Labs Smash-It!?

Primal Labs Smash-It! can be purchased from the official Primal Labs website. Most customers will be directed to purchase a 30-serving tub for $34.97 plus $9.99 shipping. This special-offer price means that you are signing up to a subscription service, so expect a new tub to come each month at full price until this arrangement is cancelled. The full price of a 30-serving tub of Smash-It! is $74.95, so costs could run up quickly!
