We take an in depth look at Redux to find out more.
Redux is just one supplement in a range of products from Prime Nutrition that are aimed at women and called Female Series. However, there is nothing that gender specific about Redux.
It contains ingredients that show up in other supplements, including those aimed specifically at men, so it only seems to be the packaging (pink) and the advertising that makes a difference to the user.
Redux contains green tea extract. We love green tea and this healthy ingredient has many health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants ECGC and phenols and known to have an effect upon metabolism and fat burning. This supplement also contains Guarana a natural bean similar to coffee, which contains caffeine, and yerba mate caffeine based natural stimulant.
There is evidence that green tea combined with caffeine can increase the metabolism and cause greater fat burning than either ingredient alone so this part of the formula looks good.
Redux also contains Hoodia, once touted as a miracle appetite suppressant, although the claims have been discredited and Bearberry also known as Uva Ursi. Bearberry is high in a substance called pyruvate, which is also present in the body and plays a role in breaking down sugar.
Redux contains white willow extract – a natural source of salicin and the basis of aspirin. This shows up in numerous supplements because it is supposed to increase weight loss when combined with stimulants. The last ingredient is L Carnitine Tartrate the supplement form of Carnitine. This is found in all the cells of your body and is often used as supplement because it may help energy levels and recovery after sports and exercise. It can increase alertness too.
Redux does not come with detailed ingredients information. The formula is under a proprietary blend so individual ingredients strengths are unknown. However, it does not look very strong at 235mg out of which 50mg is composed of caffeine.
Take one serving (3 capsules) before breakfast and for best results take another serving in the afternoon.
Prime Nutrition, slogan the Best or Nothing is a US supplements and nutrition company based in Florida. Although it is mainly aimed at body builders and athletes, there are general products that are suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
The Female series of supplements includes Cleanse a product to improve digestive health and Vibrance a vitamin supplement. You can also combine these three supplements as a stack.
We have not covered Prime Nutrition supplements before.
According to the product advertising,
Prime Nutrition’s Redux is the premiere women’s fat loss formula on the market offering ingredients that are all natural, easy to tolerate, but are extremely effective.
You’ll notice improved energy, weight loss, and clarity without the notable drawbacks found in other products such as upset stomach, jitters, and restless sleep.
There are no explanations or links to clinical evidence to prove these claims.
Redux is a supplement that may offer general weight loss support. Formula is under a proprietary blend so we cannot provide an ingredients breakdown. Each serving is equal to three capsules. Information here relates to serving size.
Proprietary Blend (235mg)
Apart from the inclusion of White Willow Bark and Hoodia in the formula, Redux looks safe. However, these two ingredients may cause some unpleasant side effects mainly around nausea and stomach discomfort.
The ingredient quantities look fairly low. Clinical testing into green tea for example found that 270mg combined with 150mg caffeine increased metabolism and the fat burning effect so amounts here are insufficient.
That said, this supplement may give you a slight energy boost and Carnitine supplementation may help energy too as well as recovery after exercise. It may help a bit but it is unlikely to be earth shattering.
Redux may cause some side effects that may affect some users. These may include:
Not for use by individuals under the age of 18 years.
Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing.
Do not exceed recommended serving.
Exceeding recommended servings may cause serious adverse health effects.
Discontinue use and call a physician immediately if you experience any adverse symptoms.
Improper use of this product may be hazardous to a person’s health.
Exceeding recommended serving will not improve results.
We could only find a couple of customer reviews for Redux. One customer reported,
It makes you very energetic and made me pretty happy. Didn’t notice any weight loss but I loved the jitter-free energy.
Works well. I think it messes with metabolic function if you use it daily. It’s good as an occasional pre-workout supplement, but I wouldn’t use it 2xs daily.
Redux may help improve energy levels and the caffeine green tea combination may have a slight fat burning effect. L Carnitine may help your exercise and recovery time too. There is some clinical evidence that suggests that Carnitine Tartrate may affect hormonal responses to resistance training and exercise and as a result speed recovery.
Of course, the down side is that we are not provided with the ingredient quantities apart from caffeine so have no way of knowing just how strong each ingredient in this supplement is.
You may be able to find Redux on sale from some nutritional supplements stores but probably the easiest way is to buy online. You can buy direct from the Prime Nutrition website.
1 bottle of 90 capsules (between 15 – 30 days supply) costs $34.99. Shipping is calculated at the point of sale. You can also buy Redux via Amazon. 1 bottle of 90 capsules costs $26.11 so is the better deal. Redux is not available direct to customers outside the USA.
Prime Nutrition Redux does not come with a guarantee.
We are not very impressed with Prime Nutrition Redux, although we have seen a lot worse supplements than this one.
The ingredients profile is incomplete, so you cannot tell how much of any one ingredient you are taking, and the inclusion of Hoodia and White Willow Bark won’t do anything other than increase the risk of side effects.
In fact, without these two ingredients Redux looks pretty safe. We like the Carnitine and this may help your exercise and recovery. We like the green tea/ caffeine combo too and although amounts may be insufficient, you may feel that it helps support your weight loss.
However, at three capsules a serving you will soon get through your bottle especially if you take two servings a day. This makes it pretty expensive for just two weeks supply. In addition, not everyone is going to want the hassle of taking six capsules every day.
We like that Redux has generated some positive feedback but with just two comments, it seems to indicate that this supplement is just not that popular.
In our opinion, Redux is OK, but not good enough to add to our approved list. That means we have no other option but to reject it.
