We take an in depth look at San T3 to find out.
San T3 is a weight loss capsule that the advertisers claim will increase your metabolism naturally without the aid of stimulants.
This is not a new thing. T supplements have been around for years and were once aimed solely at the body builder market who use everything possible to achieve the effects that go beyond simple diet and exercise.
T supplements target the hormones produced by your thyroid gland because these affect the speed of your metabolism so can help weight loss. These days T supplements have a mainstream appeal but in many cases have just come to mean strong.
San T3 is a T supplement in the true meaning of the word. It contains just Guggulsterones as the sole ingredient and this is believed to have a direct effect upon your thyroid gland and weight loss.
The Thyroid Gland?
The thyroid gland is situated in your body just below the neck and makes two hormones Thyroxin (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3), which are secreted into your blood stream. T3 is actually converted from T4 and is the more active form of the hormone.
Many people suffer from thyroid disorders. Too much Thyroxin in the blood causes hyperthyroidism – the body cells work too quickly leading to side effects such as increased heart rate, nausea and diarrhoea but often as a side effect weight loss.
Too little Thyroxin leads to hypothyroidism where your body slows down, your heart rate is slower and you feel tired and sluggish.
The thyroid gland is regulated by the piturity gland, located in the skull, which controls the amount of T4 and T3 produced.
San T3 contains Guggulsterones – plant steroids found in the Guggul plant, which grows most commonly in North India. Guggul has long been used in traditional Indian medicine and there is some evidence that Guggulsterones have the ability to stimulate the thyroid gland and increase the conversion of the T4 hormone into the more active T3.
To take San T3: Take one capsule with water once a day.
San T3 comes from US supplements company San Nutrition who are based in California.
The focus of the company is on sports, training and bodybuilding and is well known throughout the industry. Established in 1996, all San Nutrition supplements are manufactured in the USA in GMP (good manufacturing practice) certified facilities.
San Nutrition provide a full range of sports supplements including protein powders, work out supplements, vitamins and more.
According to the product advertising, San T3 will cause “non stimulant fat loss” and comes with four key points:
San T3 will be effective in
Preventing Your Efforts From Working Against You
The product information explains the process.
Keeping your metabolic rate stoked is one of the hardest parts of fat loss. A reduction of T3, the most active and crucial thyroid hormone for fat burning, can halt your progress.
Overtraining and diets deficient in critical nutrients can have a negative effect on thyroid hormone levels, causing a slower metabolism, fatigue and mood problems such as anxiety and depression.
SAN Nutrition provides a powerful and natural solution that supports and enhances the body’s systems rather than causing them to cease functioning.
This supplement offers a way to “Increase Thyroid Hormone Production Without A Prescription.”
San T3 is a stimulant free supplement aimed at increasing thyroid hormone production.
Each capsule is equal to one serving.
Although many people tout the benefits of Guggulsterones, the only clinical evidence for its effects upon the thyroid gland are based on one small clinical test on albino rats. Does this mean it will work in the same way for humans? The answer is that there is no real proof that it will.
The University of Maryland have looked at the studies on Guggul and although it seems to have a slight weight loss effect when taken for obesity, there are some side effects and interactions which are of concern.
According to the University of Maryland, the potential side effects to Guggul include mild diarrhoea and nausea.
More worrying is the long list of drug interactions. You should not use T3 or any Guggul supplement if you take:
People who take these medications should not take guggul. In addition, people who have or have had hormone-sensitive cancers (breast, ovarian, or prostate cancer) should not take guggul.
Do not use this product if you are pregnant or nursing a baby.
Consult a health care professional if you have heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, psychiatric condition, difficulty in urinating, prostate enlargement, or seizure disorders.
There is some customer feedback for San T3 and as usual, it is a mixed bag of opinion.
Some customers feel that this supplement is helping:
Great product, great results. I have used these for years now, cycling on and off when I’m on my cutting phase. They work for me and they give me the results I want. Great way to amp up that metabolism without jitters. Plus since I have under-active thyroid these help me burn more calories and get my metabolism up to speed.
Some customers are using it in combination with other supplements:
I stack it with a strong fat burner and I have noticed the difference. If you are looking to lose weight, I would say to use this supplement with a strong fat burner and focus on cardio. You should see results within a few days.
Product seems to work well with a thermogenic…really cranked up the heat on Hydroxycut hardcore
Not everyone is as happy:
These did not do anything at all for me, I didn’t feel any more energy and my hunger was not curbed
In fairness to San T3, appetite suppression is not actually a feature of this supplement.
Many customers are unsure whether San T3 is doing anything at all:
I’m taking this along with many other supplements and have no idea whether it has helped me…
It is important to remember that the thyroid boosting capabilities of Guggulsterones have not been tested on humans so when you take San T3 you are essentially playing the guinea pig role yourself.
The only clinical study into guggul was carried out on rats and although this is quoted by many health sites, it does not seem very conclusive to us. In addition, we are concerned about the effect of Guggul on hormone related medical conditions. If you have an undiagnosed hormone related condition, this supplement could be dangerous long term.
San T3 does not seem very effective. Most customers are not sure whether San T3 is doing anything at all to promote weight loss however; some people believe that it enhances the effects of fat burning supplements.
It is important to note that if you think you are suffering from a thyroid condition, you should seek medical advice rather than turn to OTC supplements.

San T3 is a genuine T supplement. It contains one ingredient that is believed to have a direct effect upon thyroid hormones so it may help increase the speed of the metabolism and therefore weight loss.
However, we have some serious concerns. The sole ingredient Guggul does not really have any human evidence that it works in the way as described and in addition, taking a supplement that directly affects the thyroid gland seems risky.
The thyroid gland is part of the delicately balanced endocrine system and in our opinion, this is best left alone. Taking guggul may affect hormones and it does come with some pretty serious health concerns. You are warned to avoid if you have any hormonally related medical conditions such as breast cancer, but where does this leave you if you have an undiagnosed condition? In addition, you are warned to avoid if you are taking contraception.
Noticeable side effects are not a problem but we feel that for some people this supplement could be dangerous should they decide to take it long term.
San Nutrition appears to be a reputable company. There are no associated issues around scams or billing. San T3 is inexpensive too and at less than $15 for three months supply, it appears to offer good value.
However, we cannot advise you to try it. Even if San Nutrition were giving San T3 away free, we still would not recommend it to anyone. The sole ingredient Guggul just does not have any clear evidence that it works safely for humans and our concerns lay mainly with the risk of long term hormonal side effects that it may cause.
It is an easy decision. We reject San T3.
