Skinny Fox Detox Facts

  • Skinny Fox Detox is available as a 14 day or 28 day programme
  • Two-part tea system
  • Will interfere with the contraceptive pill and other medication. See your doctor first

Skinny Fox Detox is a teatox programme that is available in either a 14-day or a 28-day package. It consists of a morning tea and a night tea plus some dietary guidelines to help you achieve your aims.

The morning tea is to revitalise energy and boost the metabolism. The night tea is to help you remove “toxin accumulation” and contains a laxative and herbs. The idea is that the tea programme will help increase energy levels, curb sugar cravings and increase the metabolism leading to weight loss.

There is something very nice about waking up to a tea called Hello Gorgeous. This blend of loose teas contains organic ingredients including Green teas Sencha and Oolong so comes with health benefits. Green teas are rich in antioxidants and are known to increase the speed of the metabolism.

Other ingredients include Yerba Mate – a herbal extract used to make a beverage in South America. Some people describe Yerba Mate as having the health benefits of green tea – it is rich in antioxidant polyphenols and the kick of coffee because it contains caffeine. There is evidence that Yerba Mate can delay gastric emptying so can help you feel fuller and avoid sugar cravings.

Hello Gorgeous also contains herbal and fruit extracts such as Goji, ginger, lemon verbena and Acai berry as well as Ginseng root which may help perk you up. Ginseng is an adaptogen meaning it can cause feelings of general wellbeing although it can also cause potential side effects.

The Night time tea, Goodbye Cherry Pie does not contain anything related to cherries. Instead, it contains peppermint so this will be the overriding flavour. Many people find peppermint tea calming and you may need this because this tea also contains Senna leaves – a powerful laxative that does raise some health concerns. Although Senna is natural and well known, it is a strong laxative and may cause side effects.

Other ingredients include something the advertising describes as fennel fruit. This left us puzzled because there is no such thing as fennel fruit. Fennel grows in many gardens and both the seeds and the root are used for cooking and medicinally, but it does not bear fruit. This mistake is troubling because it suggests that Skinny Fox might not understand their own ingredients.

Fennel root is a diuretic so it will increase the amount you urinate.

Other ingredients include cinnamon bark – a well-known cooking spice that may have health benefits and will certainly spice up the taste and again organic ginger root present in the morning tea.

How to Take Skinny Fox Detox

The morning tea, Hello Gorgeous, should be steeped in hot (not boiling) water for 5-6 minutes. For an afternoon tea, you may re use your teabag. Steep in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Use 8-12 oz hot water (coffee mug size).

Goodbye Cherry Pie can be taken every other night or as needed. Recommended steeping time is 8-10 minutes for first tea bag. Slowly increase to 15 minute steeping time the more your body gets accustomed to the herbal cleansers. Do not re-steep already used teabags.

In addition to the teas Skinny Fox Detox comes with some rules in order to help your detox along, including cutting out dark meat, alcohol, fried foods and white grains such as pasta and rice.

You are also advised to cut out milk (dairy and non-dairy) and sweeteners including sugar and Stevia.

Bizarrely you are advised to eat only one serving of fruit a day, which seems to go against dietary advice of your five a day.

Skinny Fox Detox is a US company that according to the ‘about us’ information was founded by Nicole C Johnson. We can’t find much about her or the location of the company but it does have an active social media presence and we cannot find any issues relating to payment problems or similar.

Other Skinny Fox products include a coconut coffee scrub for smooth skin, FoxTox face mask and stay Foxy an alternative detox tea that is caffeine free and taken on a daily basis.

Skinny Fox Detox Concerns:

  • Mistakes with the ingredients names suggest a basic lack of understanding of herbs. Worrying from a company selling herbal products
  • Why is this teatox only available from the product website? Does it indicate they are scared of independent feedback?
  • How much Senna is contained in this? What type of Ginseng? Too many unanswered questions about the contents of the teas

What Does Skinny Fox Detox Claim To Do?

According to the advertising the Morning tea Hello Gorgeous is,

Blended to consist of the most powerful natural teas and herbs to give you metabolism boosting, increased energy and fight fat accumulation. Comes in a loose leaf form for guaranteed freshness.

The Evening Tea Goodbye Cherry Pie is,

Very light and easy to drink. Blended with a natural and gentle laxative and herbs to prevent stomach cramping. This tea is meant to help you say ‘Goodbye’ to toxin accumulation!

So What Is Skinny Fox Detox and What Are The Ingredients?

Skinny Fox Detox is a detox programme comprising of two teas that you drink to support some dietary changes.

There are no details about the ingredients profile of the tea blends so it is hard to assess the effects. Strength will also depend on how long you steep the teabags in hot water. All ingredients are described as organic.

Morning Tea Hello Gorgeous:

  • Yerba Mate: Popular in South America, Yerba Mate tea is contains antioxidants and vitamins and can help you lose fat. It contains the fat-fighting compound mateine, which gives you a metabolism and energy boost. Known as a cravings-killer, it saves you from consuming empty calories you’d normally reach for. Contains caffeine.
  • Sencha Green Tea: Green tea provides a number of potent antioxidants that can benefit your body in many ways. It’s rich in a phyronutrients called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and may stimulate your body’s metabolism and speed up weight loss. Together with the caffeine in green tea, EGCG works to stimulate the central nervous system and releases fat into the blood stream, so that the body can use the fat as fuel.
  • Oolong Tea: A variety of green tea with the same benefits but slightly different taste to Sencha.
  • Ginseng Root: According to the product information ginseng can “rev up” a sluggish metabolism. It is an adaptogen – meaning it can provide a general boost to feelings of wellbeing, stamina and concentration. Can be dangerous if you have any type of heart or blood pressure condition. It is a diuretic so will cause you to pass urine more frequently. There are two main types of ginseng: Panax ginseng and American ginseng (Panax quinquefollus) and ginseng is often adulterated in supplement use and can be potentially dangerous. Type here not specified.

Other ingredients will add to flavour and are unlikely to be in quantities that go beyond normal culinary use. These are: Orange Peel, Lemon Verbena, Lemongrass, Ginger Root, Cornflower blossoms, Goji Berry and Acai Berry:

Night Tea Goodbye Cherry Pie:

  • Senna Leaf: Although the advertising describes this as a gentle laxative, there is nothing gentle about Senna. It contains a chemical called sennoside that irritates the lining of the bowel and it is this that causes the laxative effect. Senna can be dangerous and the American Herbal Products Association (along with the NHS) warns against use for more than 7 days.
  • Fennel Fruit: We guess that they mean fennel root or fennel seeds but getting the name wrong of a principle ingredient does not inspire confidence. Fennel seeds and fennel root are both often used for digestive problems such as heartburn and flatulence. Fennel is also is a diuretic so will increase urine output.
  • Cinnamon Bark: Well known culinary ingredient but cinnamon may have advantages for weight loss as well as a Christmassy taste. The problem is that the many clinical tests have not been consistent. It may help reduce cholesterol levels. It may help prevent fat storage when taken at high levels. There again, it may not. Requires further evidence.
  • Ginger Root: According to the product information, ginger can help reduce inflammation and promotes glucose sensitivity factors associated with weight loss. Ginger is excellent at relieving nausea and headaches and is high in vitamins and vital minerals. It is not strictly proven to help you lose weight but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence between weight loss and the consumption of ginger.

Other ingredients will add to flavour:

  • Peppermint Leaf: No proven benefits to peppermint and the FDA withdrew it as a cure for digestive problems due to lack of evidence but many people find peppermint extremely calming and helpful for digestive problems.
  • Coriander Fruit: We imagine that the advertising means coriander seeds but like with fennel fruit this is a misleading name. Celebrated Indian spice with a delicate flavour.
  • Orange Peel: Added for flavour.

So What Does All This Mean?

We would have liked to have seen more details about the origins of the Ginseng in the morning tea. This ingredient can be problematic and although many people take Ginseng for health, it can cause unpredictable side effects especially if the variety is unknown. Otherwise, this tea blend looks likely to give you an energy burst and may help you support your weight loss.

We are not as keen on the Goodbye Cherry Pie tea. Senna leaf is not gentle and taking a strong laxative like this is not beneficial to health or weight loss. Fennel is a diuretic so you will probably be spending more time in the bathroom than usual. Taking laxatives and diuretics can lead to dehydration so you will need to ensure you drink plenty of water.

Does Skinny Fox Detox Have Any Side Effects?

There may be potential side effects. Skinny Fox Detox contains caffeine so may cause caffeine side effects such:

  • Jitteriness
  • Insomnia
  • Increased heart rate
  • Headaches

You may also experience:

  • Changes to blood pressure
  • Diarrhoea
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Dehydration

Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Skinny Fox Detox will interact with the contraceptive pill so you are advised to use condoms throughout the duration of your detox.

Avoid if taking prescription medication.

The product information warns you to avoid if you are caffeine sensitive and/or have existing blood pressure/heart related issues: If you are caffeine sensitive and/or have a family history of high blood pressure, hypertension, or heart issues.

According to the product information, Senna should not be used if you have diarrhoea, loose stools or abdominal pain.

Not for long term use.

You are also advised to drink plenty of fluids while on the detox to avoid the risk of dehydration.

Discontinue if you experience side effects.

Any Skinny Fox Detox Reviews From Customers?

Skinny Fox Detox is only on sale from the product website so the only reviews are via the official site or social media. Unsurprisingly ALL the reviews are extremely positive and along the lines of,

I love SkinnyFox Detox! I lost 15lbs in 2 weeks along with exercise and diet! I am so thankful that I found skinnyfox and look forward to doing more teatoxes in the future with my friends.

WOW. That’s all I can say!

While we are not suggesting that the large number of reviews on the website are fake, it is unusual to find such widespread approval and all without one mention of a side effect. We don’t really believe this feedback is independent.

So Does Skinny Fox Detox Work?

If you take the Skinny Fox Detox and make the dietary changes you may find that you lose weight. Cutting out fatty meat, carbs such as white bread, rice and pasta, all sugars and alcohol, you cannot really fail to lose weight and you don’t need a teatox to support this.

However, some people will find that the placebo effect of detoxifying will help them stay on track and if the ingredients in the tea blends don’t cause any side effects it may help you lose weight.

But there is nothing magic about the tea blends. You could get the same benefits by making dietary changes you can live with and supporting your diet with a good quality green tea blend, cheaper and without the risk of side effects.

We are concerned about the side effects of taking Senna long term. The medical advice is not to take for longer than 7 days so the 28 day teatox is potentially dangerous. In addition, with a lack of impartial customer feedback and full ingredients information, it is hard to evaluate the effects of this teatox.

Where Can I Buy Skinny Fox Detox?

Skinny Fox Teatox is not on sale from the stores or from online retailers. You can only buy it via the product website. The Mini Skinny Fox Teatox (14 days supply consisting of 40g of Hello Gorgeous loose tea and 7 tea bags of Goodbye Cherry Pie) costs $34.00.

The signature Skinny Fox Teatox (28 days supply consisting of 82g of Hello Gorgeous loose tea and 14 tea bags of Goodbye Cherry Pie) costs $58.00. You can save 5% off your order by joining the mailing list. Shipping is free to US addresses and international shipping is available and calculated at the point of sale.

What About A Guarantee

There is a 30-day returns policy advertised, so if you are dissatisfied you will have to act fast and contact the company about how to get your refund.

Watchdog Verdict

Skinny Fox Detox looks to be one of the better teatox supplements on the market. It comes with some dietary requirements that if you follow may help you lose weight and we like the green tea content.

However we are concerned about the lack of genuine customer opinion and this combined with inadequate ingredients information and some basic errors, makes this supplement look questionable.

Make no mistake there is nothing gentle about Senna and there really is no reason to take laxatives as part of a healthy weight loss plan. Detoxifying imaginary “poisons” from your body can cause numerous side effects. Doctors warn against this practice and medical opinion does not support detoxing but this simplistic approach never goes away and for many it is a placebo effect and nothing more.

We cannot approve a teatox so although Skinny Fox Detox does not look as bad as some of the others on the market we can not add it to our approved list.

  1. I have been using this product for 2 weeks. Unfortunately it is upsetting my stomach. I have contacted the company 2 times via email, because there is no phone number. So far all I received was an email full of interrogating questions. It says 60 days money back guarantee, but now I have not hear back from them and Ive sent a third email. Not pleased with the customer service.
