• Skinny Mint

Skinny Mint is a two part Teatox program that you take to lose excess fat, toxins, and bloating and judging by the large number of customer before and after pictures it is very popular worldwide.

The idea is that you drink the teas and let the laxatives flush your system while being energised by the stimulants. If you believe in the powers of detox, it looks to tick all the right boxes.

The Skinny Mint Company is based in Singapore and ship worldwide but we admit to having some concerns about this supplement regarding safety and side effects.

What You Need To Know About Skinny Mint

Skinny Mint is marketed as being good for health and weight loss yet in truth it comes with more dangers than benefits. All those laxatives and diuretic ingredients are not going to promote good health, despite the claims made on the official Skinny Mint website.

What Are The Side Effects Of Skinny Mint?

Many people have contacted Diet Pills Watchdog complaining of some very adverse effects following taking this Teatox, yet it comes with no health warnings or guidance for customers.

There are strong medical concerns about the practice of taking laxatives and diuretics over a long period of time. Medical advice warns against using Senna for over 7 days yet the Skinny Mint packages come in 14 day and 28 day supplies. There is a worry that taking this Teatox could lead to dehydration so it will be important to ensure you drink plenty of liquids throughout.

We also have serious concerns about manufacture. The Skinny Mint Company is based in Singapore so it is unlikely that it is made in compliance with GMP (good manufacturing practice). Could there be additional ingredients in the teabags or hygiene issues? It is highly possible.

How Much Does Skinny Mint Cost?

This teatox isn’t the cheapest on the market and for tea its expensive! The 14-day starter kit is £22.90 ($29.90) with the 28-day “ultimate” teatox package costing a whopping £39.90 ($54.90). At least the shipping is free!

    Our Verdict On Skinny Mint

The bottom line is that in our opinion Skinny Mint is more likely to make you ill than anything else so there is no reason at all why you should take it or why we would ever recommend such a substandard product.

With so many other diet products on the market delivering better results (and cheaper too) we would suggest looking elsewhere if you’re looking to get rid of excess fat.

    Skinny Mint Facts

    • Skinny Mint is available to buy in a choice of currencies
    • Contains laxatives
    • Despite the healthy looking appeal of the advertising, taking laxatives is not good for health

Skinny Mint is the type of supplement known as a Teatox. This means that it comes in the form of tea (bags) that you drink a couple of times a day and the idea is that this will detox your system leaving you looking and feeling thinner and healthier.

Detoxing is extremely popular because it is supposed to be good for health and beauty. The claims are that a detox removes toxins from your system and will help you lose weight, remove internal parasites, stop bloating and puffiness and improve your skin.

    How to Take Skinny Mint

Skinny Mint comprises of two teas. You take one in the morning and one last thing at night.

The daytime tea is called Morning Boost and contains some stimulant ingredients including Green tea, Guarana – a seed extract rich in caffeine and Yerba Mate – a Brazilian extract high in caffeine. In addition, it contains some natural fruit extracts such as strawberry and pineapple plus diuretics – dandelion and nettle leaves.

The Night time tea is called Night Cleanse. It contains some powerful laxatives including Senna and liquorice root plus other ingredients known for the effects upon the digestion such as peppermint and ginger.

The Skinny Mint website features numerous so called customers before and after pictures and accounts of good results of weight loss using this Teatox. Some of these look genuine however there is no way to know for sure whether these women really lost weight by using the Skinny Mint Teatox. Call us cynical but we know the lengths that any supplement company will go to in order to create a good impression!

    Skinny Mint Concerns:

    • Misleading advertising. This tea supplement is not good for health or wellbeing
    • Will customers realise that this expensive tea is potentially dangerous if used long term?
    • You are advised to avoid caffeine while taking this supplement

What Does Skinny Mint Claim To Do?

There is no great mystery about how Skinny Mint will help you lose weight!

Both teas contain diuretics to make you urinate more and as a result lose water weight. The night time tea contains ingredients such as Senna leaf and liquorice, which are powerful laxatives. All that added bathroom time will help you lose weight temporarily.

The day time tea contains some caffeine and stimulants to perk you up in the morning in a similar way to a cup of coffee or tea.

The product advertising puts it like this,

The Morning Boost is designed to give you a boost throughout the day and to naturally reduce the appetite. It contains Green Tea, Yerba Mate and Guarana with a naturally sweet fruity taste.

    It continues,

The Night Cleanse is designed to naturally purify the body which could lead to reduced bloating. It contains all natural ingredients to promote the restoration process.

    The advertising concludes,

Fresh and fruity Morning Boost can replace your morning coffee/black tea and earthy and soothing Night Cleanse is the perfect bedtime ritual.

    Does Skinny Mint Work?

Although Skinny Mint is marketed as a way to improve health and wellbeing as well as get thin, there is no evidence that it will work as described.

Medical opinion is that detoxing is a fad and nothing else. Your body does not accumulate toxins that need to be cleansed. That said you may lose some weight. All those laxatives and diuretics are going to remove so called water weight so it is possible that you will show up temporarily lighter on the scales.

There is no independent feedback for Skinny Mint – the Teatox is sold only via the official website. However there are hundreds of so called customers before and after pictures on the website.

Some of these look genuine but many are unconvincing. In many cases the body of the before and after picture do not match up. However as an overall impression it appears that this supplement is effective and popular. It is only when you look more closely that the cracks start to appear.

What Are The Ingredients of Skinny Mint?

Skinny Mint is a two part Teatox supplement that you drink daily. There are two types of tea; the Morning Boost to be taken each morning and the Night Cleanse which you drink last thing at night.

Quantities of ingredients per teabag are not specified. It is not clear whether the fruits are in dried form or as extracts which are stronger.

It is not clear whether Skinny Mint has been manufactured in line with GMP (good manufacturing practice) or conforms to basic standards. It has probably been manufactured in Singapore so may not conform to standards in the USA or UK.

    Morning Boost Tea Blend:

    • Green Tea: Described as energizing, fat burning and immunity boosting by Skinny Mint, green tea comes with evidence it can do all those things and it has been investigated for its role in the prevention of illness. We love green tea but a better option here would be to drink green tea on its own rather than in combination with the other ingredients.
      Source: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/269538.php
    • Yerba Mate: Natural herbal extract taken from a South American plant often drunk as a tea in South America. It contains high levels of caffeine and there is evidence that it may help weight loss by delaying gastric emptying and so increasing feelings of fullness for longer.
      Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerba_mate#cite_note-36
    • Guarana: Another caffeine rich ingredient that the advertising describes as providing ‘cleansing, endurance and weight loss’. There is just no evidence that this is true. Caffeine may provide an energy boost but does not promote endurance. However when too much caffeine is ingested it can have a laxative effect.
    • Grapefruit Leaves: According to Skinny Mint, grapefruit leaves provide cleansing, immunity improving and fat reduction but there is very little evidence to prove this. In fact there has been very little clinical testing into grapefruit leaves at all. Worryingly grapefruit leaves may interact with medication in what is known as the “Grapefruit effect.”
    • Nettle Leaves: Nettle leaves are a strong diuretic meaning that this ingredient will increase the amount that you urinate.
      Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/nettle.aspx
    • Strawberry: All natural berries, are high in antioxidants and great for health and weight loss but a better alternative would be to include more fresh fruit into your daily diet.
    • Dandelion: Commonplace weed throughout Europe and well known as a powerful diuretic. A folk name for dandelion is “Wet the Bed” and this is a fair description of what it does!
      Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/stinging
    • Pineapple: Delicious fruit, which may add to the flavour of the tea – if it does not overpower the strawberry. Great for health if taken in natural form but of no special benefit to weight loss

    Night Cleanse:

    • Senna Leaves: Senna is a natural plant that contains a chemical called sennoside, which creates a laxative effect by irritating the lining of the bowel. According to the American Herbal Products Association, Senna leaves are harsh on the system and the association warns against long-term use. The NHS warns that you should not take Senna for longer than 7 days maximum so we are concerned about the advice to take for longer.
      Source: https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/652.html
    • Ginger Root: Often taken as a natural cure to stomach upsets, ginger root is well known for its tangy fresh flavour and it may have a laxative effect too. Classified as one of the world’s healthiest foods, according to the Skinny Mint product information, ginger is an aphrodisiac but we have been unable to find any proof for this claim. It seems unlikely.
      Source: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=72
    • Peppermint: Although this Teatox is named Skinny Mint, peppermint is the only mint ingredient and it does not seem very prominent in the ingredients profile. Peppermint is a well known herbal remedy for digestive problems such as stomach pain and bloating but t was actually banned by the FDA as an OTC aid for digestive problems in 1990 because there was no evidence that it worked. That said it is a popular and safe ingredient and many people believe in it.
    • Liquorice Root: Although we are all familiar with liquorice as flavouring, it can be dangerous at high levels. Liquorice is a strong laxative that can also raise blood pressure levels and reduce potassium levels and with amount quantities unknown we are concerned about this ingredient. Many liquorice products manufactured in the USA do not actually contain any liquorice but this information is unknown here.
      Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/licorice.aspx
    • Orange Leaves: As with the grapefruit leaves in the Morning Boost, there is no real evidence that orange leaves will be effective as a medicine. We cannot see orange leaves doing much for your health or weight loss. There is just no evidence.
    • Psyllium Husk: Natural fibre rich laxative derived from seed pods and used in many OTC laxatives including Fybogel. Can provoke allergic reactions.
    • Lemongrass: There is a buzz around lemon grass as a medicinal ingredient and it may be effective for a variety of conditions but it requires further evidence.
      Source: http://www.livestrong.com/what-are-the-health-benefits-of-lemongrass-tea/
    • Hawthorn Berries: Well known ingredient that has been used in herbal teas for hundreds of years as a treatment for heart disease and angina. Hawthorne may be effective as a treatment for hypertension too but there have been very few clinical studies. If you have any issues regarding your heart health you should avoid this ingredient.
      Source: http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/hawthorn

Although a cup of herbal tea seems perfectly harmless, the Skinny Mint Teatox contains a lot of ingredients in unknown quantities and side effects may be an issue.

Does Skinny Mint Have Any Side Effects?

Many people have contacted Diet Pill Watchdog complaining of side effects including:

    • Abdominal pain
    • Stomach cramps
    • Diarrhoea
    • Vomiting

You should certainly expect increased bowel movements and the amount that you pee. This supplement is chock full of laxatives and diuretics so this is likely to be the principle effect. This in turn may lead to diarrhoea and watery stools and you should cease use if experience these side effects. Health advice is not to take Senna for longer than 7 days.

Increased bowel movements/ diarrhoea can lead easily to dehydration so it will be important to ensure you drink plenty of liquids during the Teatox.

    Symptoms of dehydration include:

    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Fatigue
    • Confusion
    • Headaches
    • Thirst

If you are sensitive to caffeine you may notice side effects from the Guarana, Yerba Mate and Green tea combination such as:

    • Jitteriness
    • Anxiety
    • Sleep disturbances

Many of the ingredients in Skinny Mint require further clinical investigation and nobody really knows if some of the ingredients such as Hawthorn are safe. Effects and reactions may be unknown. In addition you should avoid if you are taking prescription medication because this Teatox may cause interactions.

If you are taking the oral contraceptive you may need to find other methods during your Teatox as this supplement may affect the way that the contraceptive works.

    Caution:

Not suitable for individuals under 18.

Do not take if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Cease taking if you experience an allergic reaction such as swelling, or numbness and seek urgent medical advice.

Do not use this tea if you are taking prescription medication because of the strong risk of interactions.

Skinny Mint advises you to avoid caffeine while taking the Detox and to consult your GP if you are considering using the Night Cleanse long term.

Has anyone noticed that some of the good comments on here are definitely from the skinny mint people, they all say the exact same thing, like they are reading a script! This tea made me feel awful, I couldn’t even finish it all so I tried a new one I found on instagram, miss fit skinny tea and it was worse, never felt so sick in my life! I won’t be using detox teas anymore!

    2. Ana says:

I just had a question was the morning boost tea by itself cause any side effects?

    3. Mitch says:

Regret buying skinny mint teatox. My 1st day taking it. It makes me so hungry after I drink the pm teatox. Not worth it.
I wish I did my research before ordering it.

I do not have any financial interest in the product. I am currently on my 2nd round of the teatox and i quite enjoy it. i try to eat clean as best as i can. i don’t take sugar. I very rarely drink alcohol. i had major bloating issues. Every since i started taking skinny mint, my bloating has subsided. it has actually helped with menstrual cramps. my cravings have decreased. I drink more water than usual. My appetite has shrunk. i don’t snack as often as i used to. i follow instructions as per on the packet and i don’t have pain issues of any kind. Instead, it has helped me sleep better and i am not as lethargic as i used to be. i even stopped drinking coffee. every body is different. skinny mint teatox may not work for some but does work for others. it’s working fine for me.

I am not sure if anyone else has had this expeiernce or if it is just me, but do to my concerns of my overall health I felt the need to post. I have never joined a blog or sound board so thats says alot in on my part. I tried to skinny mint detox 2 weeks ago, and nearly completed the 14 day detox, but at some point, I’d say middle of the detox. I noticed my mouth necoming overaly dry. I am still experiences this and have stopped the tea, cause at first I wasnt sure if it was the cause, It has been about 4 days or so since I last drank the tea, my mouth is still very dry. I am wonrdering if anyone else has had these same symptoms after use.

    9. sitha says:

As a doctor,I strongly disagree with slimming tea/detox tea/slimming pills. Many of my patient’s with at least 1.5month of detox/slimming teas came back with impaired kidney function and hyperkalemia(high potassium levels in the blood).Best detox/natural and safest — fast a whole day(on a leave day)– drink only green apple juice 3x (no sugar added) and lots of water.do it weekly once– see a lot of difference — of course exercise and balanced diet helps– nothing in the world (good stuff) comes easy..so work smart..all the best..

    10. Amy says:

Oh god im in the middle of my 14 day one and i have to stop drinking this tea all im getting are horrible stomach cramps my stomach is making constamt noises i have lost my appitie

      1. Amy says:

Completely I’m sorry i even tried it . Never again will i order anything like this again ????

    11. FX says:

I tried the started pack and experienced none of the symptoms. I felt a bit better when I was drink the tea. It is true that you would have to use the bathroom more frequently than usual, that was only true for me during the beginning of the teatox. After a week or so, I didn’t have to use the bathroom all the time and was able to have bowel movements on a regular basis. Overall the teatox worked well for me in cleansing my system, but not so well in losing weight.

    12. Leanbe says:

So glad I done my research was just about to order this! I’m not going to bother I don’t fancy being sick ????

    13. Gina says:

Thank god I stumbled upon this blog. I too was going to order this. Although there are some good reviews, it’s not worth the risk. I do not want bad stomach pains, headaches…all of those side effects that I just read about!!! Eat right, exercise and portion control is the way to go…and maybe some green tea daily thrown in the mix!!

    14. Mary says:

I tried this product for 28 days and i love it! i lost 5 pounds and i reordered again 🙂 i love this tea! its is true that you have to use the bathroom frequently, but i dont have any bad symptoms! so far so happy ! i love it

    15. Kandice says:

Hey, two friends of mine tried this product and they loved it (they also cut out bread while using it). I am also enjoying the results I am having with this tea. I have always had issues with bloating/regular bowel movements and I find the product really helped me. I guess different bodies just garner different results!

    16. Madison says:

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I LITERALLY JUST HAD TO SEND THE COMPANY THIS EMAIL:

      Hi there,

I bought your two month supply of the morning boost and night cleanse tea. For the past few days all I have been experiencing are extremely negative effects. In fact, my health has gotten absolutely worse with this product. I’ve had stomach issues for two years, I have IBS, have had many tests done however, and according to my gastrologist, my stomach is completely healthy. I changed my eating habits and water habits a few weeks ago and noticed a lot of improvement. I stopped experiencing stomach cramping and pain very quickly. Since going on your product, all my symptoms have come back but even worse.

I’ve read online that another woman has emailed your staff saying the same thing. She was told by your staff to “stay hydrated” and drink more water. That is not my problem. I drink more than 8 cups of water a day so I would appreciate it if you did not give me the same response.

Last night, I woke up at 4:00am with excruciating stomach pain and had to run to the bathroom before having diarrhea. In fact, every single time I go to the bathroom, I have diarrhea. I understand that this product is a “natural laxative” but the product also claimed to make my stomach stronger and have better digestion (reason why I bought it due to my stomach issues). In reality, it’s made my stomach weaker.

I’ve tried Fittea before and did not experience these same effects. I decided after two cycles of Fittea to switch up my routine and try a different type of “healthy digestion promoting tea” and stumbled upon your company and product. Little did I know, your products are completely different. Fittea did not make me experience ANY pain, diarrhea, and cramping whatsoever. The worst part about it is that your product helps with stomach bloating, when my stomach bloating HAS GOTTEN BIGGER.

Basically what I am saying is that your product is in fact making my life worse. It is interfering now with my work and personal life. It’s humiliating having to go to the bathroom constantly at my office and try to hide my diarrhea. I’ve become nervous about leaving the house wondering whats going to happen once I do. I already have anxiety issues and this product is just perpetuating them.

All I am asking is for a refund. If you’d like, I’ll even send your product back to you. I’ve not even used a weeks worth and I CANNOT do this for 7 more weeks. I just can’t. I’m living in hell. I am a part time student, part time employee and I can’t afford to spend more than $100 dollars on a product that I’ve only used for a couple of days and has begun to ruin my health. I’m trying to save my money in order to move out of my parents house and I thought for once I would buy something nice for myself.

I read on your refund policy that you do not give refunds if the package has been opened but how else would a customer realize that they weren’t satisfied with the product? Also, I’ve read “As we are all different, we appreciate that our tea may not be suitable for absolutely every body type and so we cannot offer refunds if the tea does not perform the changes you desire.” My problem is not that the tea is not performing the changes I desire, it’s that it is physically hurting me.

I would appreciate it if you’d respond ASAP to me. If I don’t receive a response in the next few days, I will continue to contact your company until I do.

      1. Natalie says:

That is awful! I’m so sorry you had to go through this, please try to not be embarrassed by bathroom issues, everybody poops 🙂 I too suffer with anxiety so I understand the embarrassment but I am glad you stood up for yourself and I hope you got the refund and response you were looking for! And that your health has gotten better since stopping this product! Good luck for your future! 🙂 xx

    17. Claire says:

      Thank you for your article!!
I was about to order after having a live “chat” woth skinnymint, but thought I’d do a final google first and this came up!!
Needless to say I WILL NOT be ordering! X

    18. Jessica says:

OMG!!! This product is like a miracle! I bought it without even looking at any reviews and after reading some on these I started to regret but i finally got it and started drinking the tea. I didn’t notice anything happening for a week, but after that i felt less bloating and no menstrual cramps at all and with the night tea, in the morning you know when you just have to use the bathroom. It flushed away a lot of junk in my stomach. My bf and I have noticed a difference on how i look because look slimmer. Not really sure if i have lost any weight because i haven’t weighed myself. I have not been craving food as much either and what i mind awesome is that i have not really been eating the best food but I still see a difference although I don’t eat as much anymore. I really want to buy more because i have like a week left, but broke at the moment 🙁 But i most def. love it plus it tastes way better than green tea!

      1. Ahnison says:

Hi, can you provide me the site where you bought the skinnymint? Because Im worried to buy a fake skinnymint. Do you also bought it with a discount? How to get the discount code? Sorry I had lot of questions. Hope you’ll give it some time answering my querries. Thanks in advance. 🙂 The product is too good to be true but I still might give it a try.

    19. Rhian says:

I have been using this product for 12 days now. As someone who constantly struggles with sleep, going to the toilet and bloating I have found this great. In fact am just about to order another 28 days as bought a 14 day tester previously. No complaints at all. sleeping well, not bloated and have lost about 5lbs in conjunction with a healthy balanced diet and exercise.

    20. Jo says:

Thank you so much for the candid warning. I nearly fell for the hype, but thought some research was in order before shelling out for the product. I am delighted to have found your report and will definitely NOT be buying a product full of caffeine and laxatives.

im on day 20 today and have decided to bin it. Symptoms are; lethargic by 3pm and struggle to get up in morning, cramps, awful lower back ache, loss of appetite, dizzy getting up from sitting, occasional passing nausea. Don’t be fooled – by my 2nd night teabag I was having Terrible cramps and contacted SM to be told to stay hydrated. This went by day 5 and I felt great! However since yesterday I thought I had food poisoning but my mother and sister in law who are both taking SM have both got some of the symptoms too and they are not as far along as me. We have all stopped.

I would not advise to try this product. I was interested in trying this teatox but was shocked when I realized it came from Singapore… not the United States. It took about 3 weeks to get to my house. I tried the morning boost one morning around 8am and felt absolutely nauseated all day and had horrible heart palpitations. By 5pm I had diarrhea and was throwing up multiple times. By 9pm I had a 102 degree fever and thought I was going to have to go to the hospital to get my stomach pumped. This tea had me home sick for 2 days…not worth it!

So glad I decided to do a bit of research on this before deciding to buy. This seemed too good to be true, and looks like it is. I will not be purchasing any of their products, and will continue to eat more healthy and exercise regularly. Thanks for the article!

Hello, watchdog, thank you for this enlightening article. I was considering buying skinnymint due to the attractive packaging, appeal but with this desire, I had mistrust and doubt, and reading this article only confirmed then. No clear origins of ingredients, sketchy… Your article was in depth, rich and I felt like I really learnt a lot! Thanks 🙂

I tried the skinny mint starter pack because it looked promising to get rid of my extra baggage. However, upon drinking as instructed, I started having tummy aches I’ve never experienced before. I thought this was a natural process to “detox” but it became worse. At times I would curl up in bed and going to the toilet every 10 min due to diarrhea. I noticed I am also dehydrated thus always replenishing myself. I had to take a break from my supposedly 14-day teatox routine because the side effects were quite hazardous for me to handle. It was quite disappointing having to spend quite a hefty amount on something I thought was believable.

I did the SinnkyMint Teatox, and it has done none of the things that they promote on there website. Since being on it I have experienced serious stomach pain (usually associated with needing to use the washroom), and I have not noticed a boost in my energy level and I didn’t notice ANY weight loss despite being on this and eating clean. As well my night cleanse did not come as a full bag, and when I told a skinny mint rep they advised that I should take the night cleanse every night, and steep it longer even though I was not given all 14 tea bags. All in all I am very disappointed with the “cleanse”.
