Somatox Ultimate Teatox Facts

  • Somatox is marketed by a Yorkshire based company.
  • Available in 14 days or 28 days supply.
  • Contains three laxatives; senna leaf, cassia seed and lotus leaf.

Teatoxes are popular right now. They seem to provide an easy and healthy way to revitalise your general health, energy levels and appearance. Sometimes we all need a lift and taking a teatox seems to provide a straightforward and easy way of achieving this.

Somatox comprises of two tea blends. You take the Daytime tea each morning and the Night Time blend every other evening over a 14-day or 28-day period.

The Day Time blend looks good at first glance. It contains green tea and Ashwagandha root – more commonly known as Indian Ginseng, so should give you an energy lift in the morning.

The other ingredients include super fruit, Goji berry and celery leaf both rich sources of antioxidants. It contains Indian plant Gotu Kola – which may be effective at improving circulation. There are rose petals, lemongrass and chamomile, which may help you feel calm and unstressed as well as creating a pleasant light flavour.

The final ingredient is dandelion leaf, which is well known for causing a diuretic effect so you may find that you will need the bathroom more frequently than usual. Of course, effects will depend upon the strength of the ingredients – information which is not provided.

The Night Time blend is different and it does look strong. It contains three laxatives Senna leaf, cassia seeds and lotus leaf, so this will be the predominant effect. It also contains two green tea blends plus chamomile.

This blend does not seem very suitable for taking close to bedtime.

Green tea contains caffeine so if you are accustomed to avoiding caffeine at night, you may find that the Night time blend keeps you awake. In addition, it seems odd to take laxatives before you sleep too. Senna and Cassia especially are strong and you cannot guarantee that their effects will wait until next morning to kick in.

In fact, the only listed ingredient here with any benefit to getting a good night’s sleep is chamomile.

Somatox Ltd is a relatively new UK company based in Wakefield Yorkshire that was set up in 2014. They describe themselves as “a passionate group of guys and girls that love all things healthy and good for our body.”

Somatox market a range of weight loss supplements.

As well as various tea blends including Skinny Teatox and Mr T Tox, there is the Ultimate Colon Cleanse, which you take for three months, a T5 Maximum Strength Fat Burner and supplements containing Garcinia Cambogia, Raspberry Ketone supplements and more.

There are no associated scam issues with Somatox. The company sell direct from the website as well as via some well-known outlets including Amazon and Weight World.
We have not covered Somatox supplements before. However, we do often review teatox supplements.

Other teatox brands include Skinny Mint, Bootea and more recently Fruiteatox.

How to Take Somatox Ultimate Teatox

For maximum effects and best results, it is recommended that you follow the Somatox regime and drink every morning and every other evening

Take your Teatox tea bag and pop it into your favourite mug! Pour near boiling water into the cup and then leave the tea to diffuse for around 3-5 minutes. You are advised that you can add honey, lemon, cinnamon or similar if you wish to improve the flavour.

Somatox Ultimate Teatox Concerns:

  • This teatox will cause side effects but will customers realise before buying.
  • There is nothing healthy about this supplement, despite being advertised as such.
  • It will interfere with the contraceptive pill but this side effect is not mentioned in the product information.

What Does Somatox Ultimate Teatox Claim To Do?

According to the Somatox information, the name “Soma means to squeeze juice from, and the word Tox comes from the word Detox. Together this created the name Somatox.”

The tea is described as a “unique formula helps to cleanse your body of toxins and impurities, leaving you with more energy in every day life.”

The principle benefits are as follows:

  • Packed full of antioxidants
  • Helps promote the feeling of fullness
  • Increases energy levels
  • Improve your skin and encourages a healthy glow
  • Cleans, revives and rejuvenates your body from the inside out
  • 14 day and 28 day variety packets
  • Contains ingredients that can potentially maintain weight loss
  • Hand picked plants and herbs with ingredients from around the world

There is some information about the benefits of each ingredient but oddly, this includes ingredients, which are not even included in the teatox such as dates, mustard leaf and liquorice root.

The reason is that the various Somatox teas all look very similar but contain slightly different ingredients profiles making it extremely confusing for the customer.

In addition, there is no comprehensive ingredients list and no links to any clinical evidence to prove any of these claims.

So What Is Somatox Ultimate Teatox and What Are The Ingredients?

Somatox Ultimate Teatox is a teatox programme that comprises of two tea blends. You drink a cup of the Daytime blend each morning and a cup of the Night time blend every other evening.

Quantities are not provided so information here is only a general overview of the various ingredients.

Teatox Morning Tea

  • Goji Berry: Sometimes called wolfberries, Goji berries are very rich in antioxidants and considered a superfruit for this reason. However, there is not much evidence to suggest that Goji berries have special qualities for health or weight loss, beyond normal berries.
  • Dandelion Leaf: Well known herb (garden weed) that is best known for increasing urination although it may have health benefits too. In England, the old fashioned folk name is Wet the Bed and this is a fair description of what it does.
    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/Taraxacum#cite_note-Taylor-26
  • Rose Flower: According to the product information, Rose petals support toning and complexion health by tightening pores and restoring suppleness if you apply them to your skin, but no evidence that taking in tea form will have this effect.
    Source: http://www.organicauthority.com/7-benefits-of-roses.html
  • Lemongrass: When taken in large enough quantities lemon grass can have a calming effect and is used as a tea in some countries. May have health benefits.
  • Sencha Green Tea: Japanese green tea, that in common with all green teas is high in vitamins and antioxidant phenols called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) There is some evidence that EGCG may stimulate your body’s metabolism and speed up weight loss. Contains caffeine.
  • Chamomile: Daisy type flower that has been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years. Chamomile is a traditional remedy for anxiety and sleeplessness but may have other benefits. Popular herbal tea ingredient usually taken to induce sleep.
    Source: http://www.herbwisdom.com/herb-chamomile.html
  • Ashwagandha Root: Also known as Indian Ginseng but not related botanically to the better known Chinese or Panax ginseng. Like “real” Ginseng, Ashwagandha Root is an adaptogen meaning it can cause a general boost to health and well being. It may lower blood pressure, blood sugar levels and reduce anxiety but requires further investigation.
    Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ashwagandha
  • Celery Leaf: High in nutrients, fibre and vitamins and well known for its pleasant flavour. Celery leaf is listed as an ingredient but the product information explains the benefits of celery seed. Not the same ingredient. Celery seeds are more powerful and contain much more fibre than the leaves.
  • Gotu Kola: Also known as Centella, Gotu Kola is an Asian herb often used in traditional Indian and Chinese medicine. Believed to decrease inflammation and may improve the circulation.
    Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/gotukola

Teatox Evening Tea

  • Senna Leaf: Senna is a natural plant that contains a chemical called sennoside, which creates a laxative effect by irritating the bowel lining. According to the American Herbal Products Association, Senna leaves are harsh on the system and the association warns against long-term use. The NHS warns that you should not take Senna for longer than 7 days maximum.
    Source: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/652.html
  • Sencha Green Tea: This ingredient is also present in the daytime tea. As above. Contains caffeine.
  • Chamomile: This natural herb is also present in the daytime tea. However it is more suitable for night time use as it is well known for it’s calming and sleep inducing effects. Many people drink chamomile tea before bedtime and it seems to be very effective.
  • Lotus Leaf: The product information explains that lotus leaves are rich in nutrients and antioxidants so have many benefits for health and weight loss. Although this is this may be true for some people, lotus leaf does have some side effects. It is a laxative that works by causing gastrointestinal irritation. Lotus leaf can cause the uterus to contract and may bring on menstrual bleeding or even miscarriage.
    Source: http://www.livestrong.com/lotus-leaf-and-weight-loss/
  • Cassia Seed: Cassia is a form of Senna so is a powerful laxative known for causing gastro intestinal side effects. It is effective for treating constipation but not safe to take long term.
    Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/senna
  • Pu’erh Tea Leaf: Black tea that undergoes a lengthy production process where it is aged slowly and fermented through the action of moulds, bacteria and yeasts for its flavour. No real evidence that it will help weight loss. Contains caffeine.

So What Does All This Mean?

The Daytime Tea may give you a lift with the combination of green tea and Ashwaghanda root although we cannot see much, if any point for taking chamomile in the morning, or for taking the diuretic dandelion root either. After all most of us manage to pee unaided without the need of any assistance!

Rose petals may help your complexion if you use them on your face but unlikely to do anything at all when taken internally in tea.

However, we have more serious concerns about the Night time blend. Three strong laxatives combined with green tea are very unlikely to give you a peaceful and uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Overall, we cannot see any benefit to this teatox either for health or for weight loss. Of course, you may show up temporarily lighter on the scales following all those laxatives but it will not help you lose body fat. In addition, there is a strong risk of dehydration and other side effects.

Teatox teas can interfere with the contraceptive pill so this could be a side effect you didn’t bargain for.

Does Somatox Ultimate Teatox Have Any Side Effects?

Somatox Ultimate Teatox does not come with any warnings provided by Somatox but this does not mean it is safe.

Potential side effects may include:

  • Diarrhoea/ loss of fluids
  • Increase urination
  • May make the contraceptive pill ineffective
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pains
  • Stomach cramps
  • Reduced potassium levels
  • Insomnia
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Risk of dehydration – symptoms of dehydration include thirst, Fatigue, Dizziness, constipation, heart palpitations – such as sensation of pounding heart or rapid beat and more.

Caution:
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Do not use if you are trying to conceive because some of the ingredients (Ashwaghanda and Lotus leaf) can cause miscarriage and menstrual bleeding. If you are using the contraceptive pill, you may need to use alternative methods of birth control throughout the detox.

Speak to your doctor first if you suffer from an underlying medical condition or are taking prescription medication because of the risk of interactions.

Any Somatox Ultimate Teatox Reviews From Customers?

There are only a couple of customer feedback comments for Somatox Ultimate Teatox.

One customer reported:

Been using this tea as an aid to lose weight for my wedding. Can’t believe how tasty it is for a herbal tea and moreover effective! Really recommend it to all my friends and anyone who wants results.

Another customer said:

Feel cleansed arrived quick.

So Does Somatox Ultimate Teatox Work?

Despite the couple of positive customer comments, Somatox Ultimate Teatox is not going to be effective as a health supplement or for weight loss and looks similar to all the others on the market.

Teatoxes are popular but there is zero evidence that they do anything apart from cause unpleasant side effects.

Stay on a teatox for too long and you can run the risk of becoming dehydrated or dependent on laxatives for bowel movements.

It is not just us who are saying this. Health experts are unanimous in their condemnation of teatoxes. As the American Dietetic Association spokesperson speaking in an interview with Fitness magazine stated:

Our bodies have organs such as the liver, kidneys, skin, lungs, and digestive system to remove these unnecessary substances every day without the help of any special detox diet or potions to help it along.

Watchdog Verdict

We are not impressed with Somatox Ultimate Teatox or any of the other teatox teas provided by this company.

Teatox teas are not a way to make you healthier and thinner. Somatox Ultimate Teatox is just like all the others on the market and contains a blend of laxatives on top of some herbal extracts. As with all teatoxes, Somatox Ultimate Teatox is big on advertising but zero evidence that it will work in the way as described.

Taking laxatives is not recommended and has no benefit to health unless you suffer from constipation and have been advised to do so by your doctor.

We also think that the Somatox product range is confusing and that the teas are expensive.

Our advice is to leave Somatox well alone and save your money. If you want to try some healthy teas why not look at green tea blends or chamomile without the added ingredients? That way you could get some benefit for much less cost and without risking your health.

It is an easy decision. We reject Somatox Ultimate Teatox.
