Below we take an in-depth look to see if and how Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia will aid weight loss and benefit the consumer.
Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia is a diet pill, but it is not described as such by some retailers who stock the product. It contains Hoodia Gordonii, which may explain this lack of weight loss claims; our research has revealed that there is no real evidence to support any claims that Hoodia gordonii acts as an appetite suppressant or aids weight loss. Because of this lack of evidence, the Federal Trade Commission has stepped in and warned some companies about their misleading claims that Hoodia Gordonii is a strong appetite suppressant. This has led to many companies who sell the ingredient being cautious about how they market the product, for fear of being fined or regulated by external governing bodies.
Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia is one of many products marketed under the Spring Valley range. However, we could not find much information about the manufacturers of the Spring Valley range at all. We did find a report on mislabelled and adulterated supplements which noted that Spring Valley is one of the few brands tested that actually contained the exact list of ingredients provided on the label, which does reflect well upon whoever actually makes the product. Some sources seem to suggest that Spring Valley is a Walmart brand, although the product is also available on amazon.
Adults take two (2) capsules twice daily, preferably with meals.
On the Walmart sales page for this product, it states:
Use Spring Valley Green Tea plus Hoodia Dietary Supplement Capsules daily for general wellness. Green tea contains naturally occurring EGCG and polyphenols to provide antioxidant support. This formula also contains hoodia.
Despite both ingredients being associated with weight loss, the company is careful to avoid describing this product as a weight loss aid. This may be because the Federal Trade Commission has warned diet pill manufacturers about overstating the potential benefits of Hoodia.
There are only two active ingredients in Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia, which, rather unsurprisingly, are green tea and hoodia gordonii.
Walmart’s website states the following quantities; 630 mg of green tea, and 25 mg of hoodia. However, they do not state whether this is per capsule, per serving of two capsules, or per daily serving of four capsules. This means that the actual strength of Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia is unclear, and the likelihood of side effects occurring is unknown.
Green tea contains a range of polyphenols, including one sub-group called catechins, which studies have focused upon. One study found that participants who drank beverages high in catechins extracted from green tea (690 mg/d) lost significantly more weight and body fat than those who drank beverages low in catechins (22 mg/d).
Green tea also contains naturally occurring caffeine, which will increase energy levels and potentially cause a slight increase to the body’s metabolic rate for a few hours after consumption. However, the doses actually provided in a daily serving of Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodiaare unknown, as we explained above.
The Mayo Clinic have noted that The Federal Trade Commission has warned some diet pill companies not to make claims about the Hoodia Gordonii and its supposed attribute of appetite suppression. This is because there is a lack of conclusive clinical evidence to support these claims. One clinical trial, published by Unilever, actually found no positive benefits, no signs of weight loss or decreased appetite, and noted that participants experienced a variety of side effects. The study used 1100 mg of Hoodia per day, mixed into yoghurt, with the placebo group eating a yoghurt that had no added ingredients.
Generally, there is a lack of conclusive evidence suggesting that Hoodia suppresses the appetite in humans, and an increasing body of evidence to suggest that Hoodia does not aid weight loss at all. Even if it did aid weight loss, the quantity used in Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia is tiny, especially compared to relevant clinical trials.
Despite having only two ingredients, we have found that numerous side effects could potentially be caused by Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia.
Green tea is a source of caffeine, which can cause side effects such as headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia. Green tea can also cause constipation.
In one study into Hoodia (which found that it did not suppress the appetite at all), participants reported a high number of side effects, which included headaches, nausea, vomiting, ‘odd skin sensations’, increased blood pressure and increases in heart rate. There were also signs of liver damage in some of the participants.
Of the 49 women in the trial, 25 took Hoodia whilst the remaining 24 participants took a placebo; these Hoodia taking participants reported 208 incidences of side effects over the course of the 15 day trial, suggesting that side effects are incredibly common.

As the product is sold at both Walmart and amazon, it is relatively easy for customers to leave their feedback. As such there are numerous reviews for Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia.
It could just be my imagination, but I think that this really does help curb my appetite. I workout about 5 days a week. I’ve trimmed down a little, but still have stubborn fat I want to lose. I’ve only been taking these pill for 6 days now, (and only 4 a day), but I believe the most noticeable result has been on my appetite. Maybe I feel a little slimmer in my stomach. When I am weight training hard, my appetite gets raging! I am going to continue taking these, and will report again if I have real weight loss.
There’s a lot of Hoopla and Hype out there about green tea and Hoodia. I take this product primarily for the antioxidant and overall general bodily health benefits rather than for weight loss. I have been taking for at least a year and I believe that it has been and continues to be beneficial to my body’s overall good health and well-being. I’ve never noticed any increased energy levels or dramatic weight loss that I would contribute exclusively to this product. Walmart’s price is excellent and the ingredients appear pure enough. I have taken on an empty stomach and after a meal without any adverse stomach or digestive effects. More often than not, I take at least 2 daily.
Have not observed any positive results, save your money on this one.
I bought these and used them for three months hoping for better results. didnt get much more then -6lbs and didnt loose anymore weight for at least 4 weeks and at that point desided to stop takeing them. It helped with the food cravings and kept the meals at smaller portion intakes. BUt as far as giving me enough energy as well to workout ontop of normal day like…didnt help much at all. If i were to take an energy suppliment again it most likely be another kind…
I am not sure if this product is doing anything for me. I have been taking it for two weeks and I have not seen much of a difference.
Good product for the money. I’ve had better, and it’s easy to get these capsules confused with my cinnamon capsules.
I hope it’s working im overweight i take two of these a day on in morning and one at night i think it’s keeping my stomach hungry pains away not sure it’s give me any energy. pills have a bad taste to them have take them quick and not think about it.
This product is absolutely worthless. Don’t waste your money on it.You can get same result by doing nothing. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
These don’t suppress the appetite as well as they advertised. I felt like I had ingested too much caffeine when I took these. I ended up giving them to a friend.
My aunt originally bought these for herself, but after she didn’t notice any difference, she told me I could try them if I wanted to. I’ve only been taking these capsules for 3 days. The first 2 days were fine, but now, on my third day, I’ve had horrible diarrhoea all night, and the very thought of food makes me want to vomit. So in that respect, I’d say it is DEFINITELY an appetite suppressant, however, feeling miserable because of it, is not worth it to me. It should also be noted in this review, that I am a person who is highly sensitive to caffeine. It gives me panic attacks and upsets my stomach. Green tea is known for having a higher than average amount of caffeine, which is probably part of why it works for weight-loss. While I haven’t experienced a full on panic attack from taking this, it has greatly upset my stomach (likely because of my sensitivity.) With that said, if you are prone to issues with too much caffeine intake, I advise you not to take these capsules.
Customer reviews are mixed about the effectiveness of Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia; some people note that they felt no appetite suppression, which is most likely because Hoodia is not an effective appetite suppressant. Others note that they experienced side effects that were likely caused by high doses of caffeine. There is no evidence that this product is more effective than any other green tea supplement. Green tea is effective as a thermogenic, but its results are still described by researchers as ‘small but significant’. The use of Hoodia Gordonii does not increase the potential for weight loss, but does increase the chances of developing side effects.
Potentially consumers could lose a tiny amount of weight, but this is definitely not a very effective product.
Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia is available from Amazon for $8.48 per bottle, with free shipping.
The product is also available online at Walmart for $4.98 plus shipping. It may be available at selected Walmart stores.
There is no money-back guarantee for this product.
Overall, we are not impressed by Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia at all. The main ingredient is green tea; whilst it is clinically proven to aid weight loss, its effects are somewhat limited and relatively small. The dose of green tea is high, making side effects from the caffeine content highly likely. The high dose will not drastically increase the chances of weight loss. The other ingredient used in this diet pill is Hoodia, which is marketed as an appetite suppressant. Because of the complete lack of evidence to back this claim up, retailers and diet pill manufacturers have been warned about overstating the potential weight loss effects of Hoodia Gordonii, and as such, the only way Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia can be marketed is as a supplement for general wellness. Hoodia Gordonii also causes side effects at an alarmingly high rate.
The product is incredibly cheap, but there is no money back guarantee.
Overall, we could not find many benefits to Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia; consumers would be better off purchasing another green tea supplement that does not contain Hoodia.
We do not recommend Spring Valley Green Tea Plus Hoodia to our readers.
