Synedrex

Rating
We have previously reviewed Synedrex here at Diet Pills Watchdog, and rejected it due to its DMAA content (amongst other issues). The product has since been reformulated to remove the illegal DMAA. As the original formula is still available at some dubious and shady websites, we have decided to add a separate review for the updated formula of Synedrex, rather than merely updating our old review.

Below we take an in-depth look at the reformulated Synedrex to see how effective it is at aiding weight loss.

Synedrex Review

Synedrex Facts

  • Manufactured by Metabolic Nutrition.
  • 45 tablets per bottle.
  • Described as a Physician Formulated Weight Loss Solution.

Synedrex is a fat burning and thermogenic weight loss supplement that also promises to deliver sustained energy throughout the day without energy crashes.

Synedrex is manufactured by Metabolic Nutrition, an American supplement company based in Tamarac, Florida. The company specialise in products around weight loss, health, vitamin and muscle building and their product range includes Oxlin, Tri Pep, CGP and Liposin as well as Synedrex.

Synedrex has been reformulated recently to remove dangerous stimulant ingredients including DMAA. The original formula is still available at some online retailers, but we cannot stress enough how unsafe DMAA is! Consumers should avoid the original formula of Synedrex at all costs, and can read our review on the original formula here.

According to the manufacturers, Synedrex can be stacked ‘with other Metabolic Nutrition products including Protizyme, CGP, TAG, Tri-Pep, Thyrene, Hydravax, or any products that do not contain stimulants’.

How to Take Synedrex

Due to the strength of Synedrex, we recommend assessing tolerance by using it initially without any other weight loss or energy enhancing products.

Do not use more than two capsules daily and do not take Synedrex in the evening. If the effects of one capsule of Synedrex lasts for more than 15 hours, consider taking one capsule every other day.

‘While Synedrex does not contain any ingredients that would alter your body’s ability to function normally, it is always advised to take a week or two off from thermogenics every 8 to 12 weeks just to allow your body a chance to reset itself.’

Synedrex Concerns:

  • Customers report side effects.
  • Contains AMP Citrate- unsafe ingredient.
  • Unknown ingredient quantities.

What Does Synedrex Claim To Do?

The manufacturers of Synedrex have provided the following description of the supplement:

Synedrex is a scientifically designed fat burning, thermogenic agent that combines ingredients to help increase metabolic activity and provide sustained energy throughout the day.

The ingredients in Synedrex have been combined to accelerate your metabolism, mobilize fat and sugars, and provide more energy all day long. These unique ingredients activate key aspects of cellular metabolism and reduce inflammation through powerful antioxidants.

Additionally, Synedrex can also satiate hunger and provide more focus and clarity throughout the day.

When combined with a solid exercise program and good nutritional habits, you will find that Synedrex will increase your metabolic rate, help you burn more calories and remove some of that stubborn fat.

So What Is Synedrex and What Are The Ingredients?

The ingredients used in Synedrex are listed below. The ingredient quantities provided are per single capsule serving. Consumers can take up to two tablets per day. The product uses a proprietary blend, and so not all of the individual ingredient quantities are known. The official website does not list Methylpentane Citrate (AMP Citrate) on the official ingredients list, but every third party retailers that stocks the current formulation does.

  • Vitamin B3 (as niacin) 20 mg (100% RDA): Vitamin B3, or Niacin, is responsible for helping to produce energy from consumed food, as well as helping keep the nervous and digestive systems healthy. Niacin can be easily sourced in adequate amounts from a balanced diet. Persistent excessive consumption of niacin has been linked with increased rates of obesity in American Children.

  • Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCI) 4.25 mg (212% RDA)
  • Vitamin B12 (as Cyanocobalamin) 100 mcg (1666% RDA)
  • Chromium (from Chromium Polynicotinate) 175 mcg (146% RDA): This is used primarily to lower fasting blood sugar levels and to lower insulin levels in people who have type 2 diabetes. In terms of its potential effect upon weight loss, it is possible that taking chromium picolinate by mouth for 2 to 3 months might produce a small weight loss of about 1.1 kg.

Proprietary Blend 920 mg

  • Methylxanthine: A type of bronchodilator.
  • Methylpentane Citrate: More commonly known as AMP Citrate. AMP Citrate is closely related to DMAA, a banned stimulant substance. There has been very little research into the use of AMP Citrate, and none has been conducted in humans regarding weight loss.
    Source: http://www.mrsupplement.com.au/amp-citrate
  • Sulbutiamine: A synthetic molecule that consists of two thiamine molecules bound together chemically. It is thought that Sulbutiamine can treat fatigue, although evidence is still preliminary.

Sandalwood Extract

  • Yohimbine Extract: Some studies have noticed increased blood concentrations of free fatty acids in participants who use yohimbe extract, suggesting increased rates of lipolysis. However, the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database has stated that there is insufficient evidence to claim it aids in weight loss.
    Source: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/759.html
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid: Appears to suppress the appetite by inhibiting AMPK in the hypothalamus although little research has been conducted in humans at this point. This fatty acid also appears to boost fat burning slightly, although the effects are not as large as the noted suppression of appetite.
    Source: http://examine.com/supplements/Alpha-Lipoic+Acid
  • Poly-Thyronine: There is very little information available about Poly-Thyronine. It apparently stimulates the thyroid, which could then stimulate the body’s metabolic rate, but there is no clinical evidence available to support this claim.

So What Does All This Mean?

What is confusing here is why the manufacturers of Synedrex have chosen to leave AMP Citrate off of the ingredients list on the website, when many customer reviews (who have clearly stated that they have the updated formula) and third party retailers all state that AMP Citrate is one of the main actuve ingredients. Hopefully the company have chosen to remove AMP Citrate, as it is not a safe ingredient, as we discuss below.

Although AMP Citrate can be found naturally in Pouchong Tea, it is most likely that the AMP Citrate used in diet pills is lab-synthesised, as the amounts found in Pouchong Tea are incredibly small. Apparently ‘supplement makers would need at least 2,200 pounds of tea to extract just 12 mg of the compound’ which makes it infinitely more economical to artificially create AMP Citrate in a lab.

The compound itself is highly under-researched, with no detailed information about its weight loss capabilities or its safety profile. The main information available about AMP Citrate is that it is closely related to a banned stimulant substance that is considered to be dangerous (although it does not appear to be quite as strong as DMAA), and that it may act as a stimulant.

Yohimbe is another ingredient that has very limited clinical evidence to support its use as a weight loss aid, that is also associated with numerous side effects.

Does Synedrex Have Any Side Effects?

Most diet pills and supplements carry the risk of causing side effects; even the safest of products can cause side effects in rare circumstances. Below we have detailed some of the potential side effects that could be caused by the individual ingredients used in Synedrex.

AMP Citrate is incredibly under-researched, and has never been properly tested in humans. Because it is closely related to DMAA, there are concerns that this is a very strong stimulant that can cause side effects such as rapid heartrate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, shaking and anxiety. We located one review of AMP Citrate on Reddit, who noted strong anxiety and depression, difficulties orgasming and some withdrawal symptoms when skipping a dose after several days of continuous use. His withdrawal symptoms included feeling anxious, feeling anhedonic(the loss of the capacity to experience pleasure), feeling depressed and lethargic.

Consumers of AMP Citrate also report that they build up a tolerance very quickly (with some noting vastly reduced effects after just five or six doses). Other reported side effects include the feeling of rushing, difficulty sitting still, a sense of motion and increased focus.

Yohimbe can cause a wide range of side effects, including stomach upset, excitation, tremor, sleep problems, anxiety or agitation, high blood pressure, a racing heartbeat, dizziness, stomach problems, drooling, sinus pain, irritability, headache, frequent urination, bloating, rash, nausea, and vomiting. High doses can cause more severe effects.

Caution:
Not suitable for those under the age of 18. Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. If you are unsure about the suitability of this or any other supplement for you, consult your doctor before purchase. This product is intended only for use by healthy individuals over the age of 18. Not to be used by anyone who has a pre-existing health condition including but not limited to: high or low blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, stroke, heart/kidney/liver/thyroid disease, seizure disorder, psychiatric issues, diabetes, stimulant sensitivity or allergies, prostate inflammation, or while taking any other medication (such as, but not limited to: MAO-inhibitor or SSRI’s). Do not use in combination with other stimulant products or alcohol. If you experience rapid heartbeat, dizziness, severe headache, shortness of breath, or similar symptoms, discontinue use immediately and call a health care professional. Do not exceed recommended dosage per day, doing so will not improve results and will result in adverse health effects. Do not use Synedrex longer than 60 days continuously.

Allergen Warning: Manufactured in a plant that also processes egg, soy, peanut, tree nut, fish, crustaceans/shellfish, and wheat products.

Any Synedrex Reviews From Customers?

We were able to locate a numerous customer reviews for Synedrex:

I’ve lost 32lbs in the past few months & I’m smaller than I’ve been in ten years. I’ve tried other diet pills before and they never made a difference. Synedrex was the first one I’ve taken where I’ve seen results. I like Synedrex because it helps me focus at work (I get so much more done!), it eliminates my appetite which allows me to eat meals that I plan instead of randomly snacking, and the energy lasts throughout the day – I still have energy to work out in the evening after work. The only thing I didn’t like about this – the first few days suck. I felt sick and jittery because my body wasn’t used it it yet. Don’t let that discourage you though, stick with it. I did, and I feel amazing right now! Absolutely worth it!

I’ve been using Synedrex since September 2014 and it really does work really quickly. It’s potent so do not take if you’re sensitive and it really does suppress your hunger, but I recommend taking it and take it with food in the morning, even if it’s just fruit. Side effects, aside from a little jittery feeling and feeling hot (it is a thermogenic), my skin itched a little all over and I experienced a strange smell every time I took it within 5 minutes, people around me didn’t experience it. Synedrex worked for me with just one a day.

This was my very first time using Synedrex. I followed the directions as stated, but I took the one pill during lunch…a big NO NO. I did not go to sleep and crashed around 4AM. The pill definitely gave me the energy I was looking for, but I am not sure how long it will take for my body to adjust to it. The energy was unreal!

I’m sure this is effective for others but it’s definitely not for me. Today was the first day I took Metabolic Nutrition Synedrex. It was referred to me by the people at Nutrition Depot. They did warn me that if you do not do well on stimulants, to stay away from this product and go with an alternative. Since I’ve taken OxyElite Pro before and with pretty good results, I thought I’d be able to handle this. Well I’ve since realized, I can’t. I’m sure this is effective for others and I’m almost positive that it works by reducing your appetite and help with weight loss but in this case, the side effects outweigh the pros. I took my first pill upon waking like the bottle suggests. It was 7:15am. By 7:30 I started to feel a bit “weird”. I have an hour commute to work each morning and by 8:00am I felt it in full force. I had nausea, dry-heaving, the inability to control my body temperature, cold sweats, perspiration and tingly hands and feet! It kinda makes me feel like I’m on X to be honest with you. It’s a horrible feeling; no wonder people don’t eat with this. You feel too sick and too nauseated to put anything near your move. When I got to work around 8:30 am and thinking it would help – I ate a whole wheat bagel and cream cheese and drank a TON of water. By 11:30 am I was still feeling it’s affects. I read that it can take anywhere between 15 hours and several days for it to pass through your system. The rep at Nutrition Depot said to give it at least 3 days but I don’t think I can handle this again. I refuse to put myself through this so during lunch, I am returning this bottle. I have been on a diet an exercise program the last several months and cannot kick the last 15-20 pounds from after having a baby. I was hoping that this would help me supplement my regime and kick my ass into high gear and help me lose these last few pounds. This product however; is not for me and I DO NOT RECOMMEND this to anyone that is either sensitive to stims or have never taken a fat burner. Although I was able to handle OxyElite well, this one didn’t go over too well with me. I will just have to continue looking for something that works for me instead of trying to conform to something that doesn’t. I hope this review helps others decide if this is something that they should try — or in my case, NOT.

There is a very damning review of this product on synedrexcentral.com, where the blogger reports experiencing numerous side effects while using the product. However, some of the ingredients she lists are different to the ingredients list provided on the official website (such as green tea and garcinia cambogia) and so it seems likely that the product has been reformulated in recent years. One seller of the product adds the disclaimer ‘Note: This formula no longer has 1,3 DMAA in it’ which may explain why the blogger on synedrexcentral.com had such a bad experience with the product. However, as we have discussed above, the new formula contains AMP Citrate; although this ingredient is slightly safer than DMAA, it is closely related and also has numerous side effects associated with its use.

So Does Synedrex Work?

The customer reviews that we could locate for this product all agree that the product is very strong, but many people found that they experienced numerous side effects, some of which were unpleasant. The ingredients list also suggests that this product is very strong, to the point where side effects are so common that they make Synedrex unusable for many consumers.

There are some ingredients that could aid weight loss according to clinical research, but if they are used in insufficient quantities then they will still not make any impact. On the other hand, there are some ingredients, especially 2-Amino-4-Methlpentane (AMP Citrate) that could cause some serious and unpleasant side effects.

AMP Citrate appears to be a stimulant, and so theoretically could increase the body’s metabolic rate, and therefore burn more calories. However, as mentioned above, there is no research showing how strong, safe or effective it is at all.

Where Can I Buy Synedrex?

Synedrex is available direct from the manufacturer’s official website, Metabolic Nutrition. A single bottle costs $52.99, with free shipping.

There are also several third party online supplement retailers that stock Synedrex. Consumers should be aware that some websites are still stocking the original formula of Synedrex, which contains DMAA and therefore should be avoided at all costs! The third party retailers we have listed below all sell the reformulated version of Synedrex.

My Supplement Store sell the product for $36.95 plus delivery charges. Best Price Nutrition also stock Synedrex, charging $36.95 per bottle plus delivery charges.

Rakuten sell Synedrex for $39.99 plus delivery charges.

Watchdog Verdict

With no safety profile or detailed research into AMP Citrate, and the chemical formula of the ingredient being similar to amphetamines and DMAA, a banned stimulant, we cannot recommend the use of this ingredient. There are likely to be some serious side effects associated with the use of AMP Citrate, and consumers of AMP Citrate have reported that it appears to have a chemically addictive effect upon the body. The FDA has also released warnings about this ingredient.

Because of the presence of AMP Citrate and several other stimulant ingredients, Synedrex is not suitable for a huge range of people, including anyone who may have to take a drug test, blood test or urine test, such as anyone in the military or professional athletes. This is because AMP Citrate may show up as a prohibited substance. The long list of stimulant ingredients also restricts who can use this product due to health reasons.

What is even more worrying is that the official Synedrex website actually omits AMP Citrate from the ingredients list, while third party retailers clearly list the ingredient. The manufacturer does provide a long list of restrictions of who should not use the product, but they provide no warnings about the numerous side effects that can be caused by using Synedrex.

The product is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee, which is useful, especially as there are numerous reports of consumers being unable to use the product thanks to some serious side effects. However, the returns policies of third party retailers may vary, and the product is significantly more expensive when ordered direct from the manufacturer.

Overall, we do not recommend Synedrex to our readers. Whilst it has been reformulated to remove unsafe and illegal ingredients, the replacement formula is still not safe, thanks to the presence of the legal but heavily criticised AMP Citrate.

  1. Hi. The ingredients in this product have changed again. Much of the new ingredients aren’t written within your 2016 article. I came to your site only after experiencing some major side effects. (I’ve taken this product twice before, earlier in the year (2017), without an issue. With this new bottle, purchased December 2017, I truly feel there is something wrong with it). Can you investigate the newest ingredients and write a new review?

  2. Dear Rachel, thanks for writing the Article.
I am a 66 year old man and work out at a local Gym.
On 9/29 / 2016 i bought Synedrex from the Gym.
The fist day ,i took a pill at 2pm and was ,so full of enegey ,I could notgo sleep till way after 5am.
The next day, I took another at 10am and went to the Gym at 1pm.
I was so full of energy and my heart was pumping.
My pulse rate went up fro my usual 110 to 132.
    I stopped and went home.
I stared feeling feel and fell sick and right now I am still not well.
I have stopped going to the gym after the second day of the pills.
I took only two, nothing more.
I popped over to the Gym and asked if I can return it they said no.
I know , since I opened the bottle, should they have reimbursed me out of good faith , or at least refer me to the manufacturer.
Can you please point me to the right direction.
