Below we take an in-depth look to see how effective The Skinny Tea Co’s detox teas are at detoxing, reducing bloating, and aiding weight loss.
The Skinny Tea Co have launched a huge range of detox teas. Some of the flavours can be purchased as a part of a multi-pack detox program, lasting for 4 days, 4 weeks, 6 weeks or 12 weeks, and all the flavours can be purchased separately. Flavours include summer berry jam, milk chocolate, ice cream, jasmine blossom, peaches and cream and all butter shortbread.
‘We recommend drinking our exclusive weight loss teas 3x per day, generally before or after meals and provide you with enough tea to do so.
Simply add 1 generous tsp (3g) of Skinny Tea into one of our provided tea sacs and add to a mug or small teapot of boiling water. Infuse for 5 minutes, stirring half way through.
All of our Skinny Teas can be drunk either hot or easily made into iced tea with no special equipment required (full instructions given on every bag).’
The manufacturers of Skinny Tea Detox products state the following about the teas used in their tea blends:
All of our skinny teas are picked by hand when they contain the highest concentrations of fat burning Antioxidants, Polyphenols and Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). After being harvest our fresh, organic, whole leaf tea undergoes a special process that exponentially raises its Gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels and maximises its weight loss and detox powers.
There is no specific explanation of how the teas are supposed to aid weight loss, or what ‘detox powers’ they specifically have.
The Detox Teas manufactured by The Skinny Tea Co are comprised of numerous different teas, along with some flavourings.
All of the flavours of tea contain organic Taiwanese GABA Oolong tea and Japanese Uji Matcha Green Tea.
The milk chocolate flavour skinny tea also contains Raw Cacoa from Ecuador. The tea contains less than 10 calories per cup. The jasmine blossom flavoured tea is naturally flavoured, as the tea leaves are layered with jasmine blossoms directly after picking, allowing the scent to infuse before being separated and prepared.
Below we go into more detail about some of the individual naturally occuring compounds found in the teas used in The Skinny Tea Co’s Detox Blends.
The teas used in this product are high quality oolong and matcha teas, which both contain high levels of polyphenols; these anti-oxidants have many benefits for general health. One particular type of polyphenols are catechins, which have been found to aid weight loss. One type of catechins in particular, EGCG, is known to increase thermogenesis in the body. Increasing the heat output of the body increases the number of calories burnt in the process, and so consumers could lose weight whilst using this product.
Probably the biggest cause of weight loss whilst using this tea would be replacing a high calorie drink, such as energy drinks, fruit juice or coffees with these teas. Most of the teas are calorie free, and the milk chocolate flavoured tea contains less than 10 calories per cup. Customers could easily reduce their daily calorific intake by several hundred calories per day with this simple swap, which would lead to significant weight loss if followed in the long term. Obviously adding sugar to the detox teas would counteract this effect, and so if the tea is not sweet enough, we recommend adding a calorie free sweetener instead to maximise weight loss.
Many dieters fail to realise how many calories their drinks contain, and so this is a potential source of ‘secret’ or ‘sneaky’ calories that can be easily replaced with a variety of flavoured, calorie free teas that also boost the calorie burning power of the body.
This product is not likely to aid weight loss if the consumer is not taking any other weight loss measures such as following a calorie controlled diet.
Both types of tea used in this teatox contain caffeine. Caffeine can cause side effects such as headaches, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, increased urination, dehydration, jitteriness, dizziness and insomnia.
There are some researchers who think that Matcha tea does not cause as many side effects as other teas or sources of caffeine, due to the presence of Theanine. Theanine causes a state of relaxation without drowsiness, and may help to counteract some of the potential side effects of caffeine, such as jitteriness. Consumers should still ensure that they do not take this product or any other source of caffeine within four hours of bedtime, as caffeine can interfere with sleep cycles.
Green tea can also cause constipation.
Some of the teas in the range have been steamed over condensed milk to add extra flavour. Whilst the manufacturers state they have had no complaints of side effects from lactose intolerant customers, there is still the slight potential for side effects if customers are especially sensitive to dairy products.

Consult your doctor if you are unsure about the suitability of this or any other product. There are hundreds of customer reviews for Skinny Tea Co’s Detox Teas on their official website.
I loved the taste of the tea. I lost three pounds during the week and I found the tea was great for digestion and defeating bloating giving me a flatter stomach. I’ll definitely be buying more!
This is my 2nd batch of tea and it is still not a let down. The 12 week tea come with a fantastic cup with built in strainer…the tea tastes so much better as the tea can breathe better. Still leaves me less bloated and I do notice some weight loss but have combined with healthy eating and exercise. Great purchase
Been drinking skinny tea for just over a week now and I’m really enjoying them, they all taste so yummy! I usually suffer quite badly with bloating and this had gone down considerably after just three days. I lost 3lbs in my first week. I took a picture at the start and after just a week the difference is amazing. I’ve even got my mum on the 12 week detox 🙂
This tea is life changing! If it wasn’t coffee I wasn’t interested. Tea has never appealed to me at all, but when I spotted Skinny Tea and they claimed to make tea taste like my favourite things I’d have been silly not to try. I was very apprehensive at first and had the 6 week detox sitting in my online basket for nearly 2 days, I was swayed by a kind gesture of 10% off to make my mind up.
I have noticed a significant change in appetite, I’m not snacking between meals! (yay). Also I have lost a few lbs and I generally feel so much better in myself. I’m addicted to this tea, especially Summer Berry Jam, next time it’ll have to be the 12 week detox because drinking Skinny Tea is all I’m interested in! Thank you Skinny Tea Co!
The customers who will see the biggest benefits from The Skinny Tea Co’s Detox Teas are customers who typically drink high calorie drinks. A large Starbucks café latte can have 340 calories, before sugar or syrups are added, and a café mocha with cream can have nearly 500 calories, whereas all of the teas in the Skinny Tea Co’s range contain less than 10 calories per cup. Replacing three high calorie drinks per day with cups of the detox teas will reduce the consumer’s calorific intake significantly, and will help dieting efforts.
The product does contain high levels of catechins and caffeine, and so will increase thermogenesis in the body, mildly boost the metabolism, and will increase energy levels. These benefits should all contribute slightly to existing weight loss efforts. The benefits are still relatively small, and would be easily counteracted by a high calorie diet.
These Detox Teas are available from the official website for The Skinny Tea co. Prices vary hugely on the website, depending upon the size of the order. A single day’s supply of the detox tea in any flavour (which should provide around three cups worth) will cost £4.95.
A week’s supply of any of the Individual flavours will cost £19.95, whilst a month’s supply will cost £39.95. The doses here are estimated based upon three cups per day, using a ‘generous’ teaspoon of the mixture in one of the tea sacs provided with the order.
The detox packs contain a variety of different tea flavours, and are available in four different sizes. A four day sample will cost customers £12.95, whilst a four week detox pack will cost £49.95. A six week detox pack will cost £69.95 and a 12 week detox costs £139.95.
The 12 week detox pack comes with a Skinny Tea Magic Infuser (worth £19.95), which is reusable rather than the disposable tea sacks.
There appears to be no money-back guarantee for this product. The company states that customers wanting to return a product should consult their returns policy for more information. However, there does not seem to be a returns policy detailed on the website. Customers should contact the company directly if they want to return a product, or if there are any problems with their delivery.
Overall, this range of detox teas does appear to be a high quality but expensive range of tea blends. All of the teas are a combination of Oolong Tea and Matcha Tea, but are all prepared in slightly different ways to give a huge range of flavours that are not normally associated with low calorie health teas.
Laxative detox teas are unsuitable for long term use, are often inconvenient to use because of sudden bowel movements, and have a huge range of side effects. We were glad to see that the Skinny Tea Co had actively sought to develop weight loss detox teas that contained no laxative ingredients at all.
The high cost of the product and lack of a money-back guarantee, or even a clear returns policy, is a problem. If customers really like the look of this range of teas, we recommend purchasing the four day sample pack of detox teas, which will provide 12 cups of tea, in four of the flavours sold by the company. This is the most efficient way of determining whether the product tastes good; the short four day period will not necessarily show whether the consumer will lose weight whilst using the product, but customers can establish the strength and flavour.
The teas themselves are high in polyphenols and caffeine, and so over long term use could boost the rate of weight loss for a consumer who is already dieting. This product is not a miracle weight loss aid, and should not be considered a strong diet supplement. The biggest advantage of this product is that it is a very low calorie drink that can be used to replace higher calorie beverages. Consumers who are switching from another brand of green tea or from water will not notice a large increase in weight loss.
Overall, we are hesitant to call this product a weight loss supplement. The product should be considered a low calorie beverage that fits well into a calorie controlled diet plan, which comes with the additional benefit of a mild increase to the metabolism of the consumer. Overall, we would not recommend the Detox Teas sold by The Skinny Tea Co as a means of dramatically aiding weight loss.
